Air traffic provider announces over 167,000 flights in January
The UK's main air traffic services provider managed over 167,000 flights last month.
NATS, based in Whiteley, reported a 1.6 per cent rise compared to January 2024, with non-transatlantic flights seeing the most growth at 2.9 per cent.
Routes to Spain, France, and Germany were the busiest, with France experiencing a significant 10 per cent year-on-year increase.
Kathryn Leahy, Chief Operations Officer, said: 'It is encouraging to see the new year get off to such a strong start, with new routes from Vueling, easyjet and Ryanair helping the growth in France.
"I am delighted with NATS' punctuality performance for the month, which we achieved despite some very challenging weather conditions, including Storm Eowyn."
According to Eurocontrol, NATS was responsible for 23.3 per cent of Europe's air traffic in January, contributing to just 0.2 per cent of delays across the continent.
NATS reported that 99.9 per cent of flights experienced no delays attributed to them, with the average delay per affected flight being 9.3 minutes.
