EXCLUSIVE Kathy Griffin stumbles upon scene of fatal freak accident on her afternoon power walk in Malibu

Kathy Griffin found herself in the middle of a terrifying situation when her afternoon power walk in Malibu led her right on to the scene of a freak fatal accident. The outspoken comedienne, 64, still recovering from a recent hysterectomy, stumbled upon a chaotic emergency site on a residential street while on a stroll with a male friend last Saturday. The LA County Sheriff's Department later confirmed a man was electrocuted and killed by a live powerline after it was knocked down by a falling branch during a tree-trimming service. Griffin, who was spotted in the same Malibu neighborhood earlier this month, appeared visibly shaken by the incident and ultimately cut her walk short and headed back home with her friend, exclusive photos show. Dressed in a gray quarter-zip athletic sweatshirt, leggings, and sneakers, with her signature red hair pulled back in a ponytail, the firebrand comic looked more pale and alarmed than fiery during the incident. Authorities say Honglei Chong, 46, grabbed the fallen powerline and was electrocuted. Chong died at the scene.. The tree-trimmer was not injured in the accident. Prior to Saturday's outing, Griffin had been spotted in public for the first time since undergoing a hysterectomy in early April to treat a pre-cancerous condition. Although she seemed to have her energy back post-surgery while logging her steps with a female companion, she appeared pale, frail and almost unrecognizable, photos showed. Her gray pallor was almost as startling as what appeared to be the bloody, severed head of Donald Trump she posed with in a notorious 2017 satire that nearly tanked her career. Contrasting with the jarring paleness of her skin, her signature bright red hair fell loose around her shoulders while it seemed her hairline was receding, and she had either a scalp condition or bald spot. Known for her biting humor and criticism of Republicans, the Catholic League and celebrity culture, Griffin has opened up about her history of health struggles, starting with a binge eating disorder as a teen. Griffin appeared visibly shaken by the incident and ultimately cut her walk short and headed back home Dressed in a gray quarter-zip athletic sweatshirt, leggings, and sneakers, with her signature red hair pulled back in a ponytail, the firebrand comic looked more pale and alarmed than fiery during the incident She also has spoken out about her long string of cosmetic procedures ranging from a breast augmentation, nose job and lip tattoo to a botched LASIK surgery in 2003 that partially blinded her in one eye and complications from a 1999 liposuction that nearly killed her. She also has struggled with her mental health, especially since a photo of her holding what looked like Trump's hacked-off head triggered heavy pushback starting in 2017. Trump, tweeting about the image at the time, wrote: 'Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!' Griffin, along with her then-elderly mother and dying sister, received death threats during the biggest controversy of her controversial career. The Trump administration placed her on its no-fly list and its Justice Department spent at least two months investigating whether the photo she posed for constituted a conspiracy to assassinate the president. Nothing came of that probe. Still, the image caused her career to nosedive, at least temporarily. Talk shows and theaters canceled her appearances, and CNN ended her annual stint co-hosting its New Years Eve show with Anderson Cooper from 2009 to 2017. 'I wasn't canceled,' she told the New York Times. 'I was erased.' Griffin has repeatedly spoken out about the incident since, and revisited it yet again last week when she complained that Stephen Colbert ambushed her and made her cry during a 2018 interview about the controversy. The comedian called Colbert 'a d**k' in a YouTube video published May 14, where she billed the interview as a 'bullsh*t ambush'. Griffin, who is famed for playing the victim over the Trump incident, also argued the CBS host's line of questioning was 'laced with misogyny,' and accused Colbert of punching down on a 'D-list celebrity'. The claims came seven years after the sit down in question, and nearly eight after the controversy that caused Griffin to lose her plum hosting gig at CNN. Her career took a nosedive after she infamously shared a photo of her holding what looked like Trump's hacked-off head on social media in 2017 The interview with Colbert months later saw her lightly pressed about the May 2017 photo-up. Griffin said she'd just been questioned by the Secret Service over the photo and had begged with Colbert to avoid the topic. First, showrunners obliged, she said – before recalling how they shifted course at the 11th hour. The comic compared the ensuing experience to a grilling one might expect on '60 Minutes' instead of a satirical talk show. She claimed Colbert – a comic as well – 'kept going and kept going' with his questions.

Kathy Griffin Wants LGBTQ+ Community To Pay Attention As Pride Month Looms

Kathy Griffin is concerned about the well-being of the LGBTQ+ community under Donald Trump's administration. The comedian recently shared her worries with reporters, imploring members of the community to prioritize their safety and become more politically active against the president's alleged gay agenda. Kathy Griffin is no stranger to throwing shots at Donald Trump, infamously known for posing with a bloody replica of the politician's severed head. Nonetheless, her concerns follow reports of ceased funding for medical research about LGBTQ+ members' health. The paparazzi caught up with Griffin outside the famous West Hollywood restaurant WeHo Bistro on Wednesday, May 21, asking what message she had for the LGBTQ+ community ahead of Pride Month in June. The comedian noted that as a longtime ally of gay and trans people, she hoped they would pay attention politically. Griffin stressed that the community should march in the streets daily, fighting for their rights. She expressed concern about the dire state of the LGBTQ+ community's treatment as United States citizens, noting she feared a day when they would not be able to walk down the streets safely. "So please protest, protest, protest daily. Don't stop. This administration will stop at nothing to try to take down the LGBTQ+ community," Griffin declared in the video shared by TMZ. Her comments follow reports of Trump and his administration stopping funding for medical research linked to the LGBTQ+ community. According to The New York Times, Trump's administration has significantly impacted medical research aimed at helping members of the LGBTQ+ community. The outlet shared its findings from an analysis of federal data, claiming the POTUS had destroyed over $800 million worth of research by canceling several grants. The National Institutes of Health reportedly terminated 669 grants completely or partly in early May. At least 323 of these grants were related to the LGBTQ+ community, including research institutions like Johns Hopkins and Columbia. Public universities were not spared, with Ohio State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham getting their grants scrapped. Florida State University lost $41 million worth of research despite investigating the prevention of HIV in adolescents and young adults in the United States. However, the NIH justified some of the grant cuts for LGBTQ+ research by noting their efforts no longer aligned with the agency's priorities. Two months before sharing her concerns about the LGBTQ+ community's safety, Griffin reached out to fans for their help in tracking down an alleged "creeper." On March 21, she shared a picture of an unidentified man wearing a green shirt and black trousers on her Instagram page. His baseball hat hid the man's face, and he appeared to be checking the pictures on his camera when Griffin took the shot. She explained the post's caption that the unknown male had been harassing her on her daily walks on the Dume in Malibu. "He approaches me with his camera and asks me only questions about Trump and tells me that he can 'get Donald Trump to watch the video' of me. He then gets in his pickup and follows me on my walk for a while," Griffin shared. She noted the man stopped getting as close as he used to once she started bringing her large watchdog. Although Griffin's dog kept the man at a safe distance, it did not stop him from harassing her. She stressed that she shared his picture in a plea for help, asking fans if anyone could identify him. Her message sparked an outpouring of support from many, who seemed eager to track the man down. Some asked Griffin to take a picture of the man's license plate, while others noted she might need the services of a private detective or better muscle than a dog. One fan advised the entertainer to share her findings on TikTok, claiming internet sleuths would work their magic. More commenters believed the right decision was to file a police report, while others implored Griffin to stay safe and avoid the man as much as possible. A few people dropped more violent options, telling the comedian to get a gun, taser, or pepper spray for her protection. Two months after the alleged "creeper" drama, Griffin sparked concerns about her health after looking unrecognizable while walking in Malibu. The Daily Mail shared pictures from the entertainer's stroll, capturing her looking incredibly pale with an almost gray tint on her skin. Griffin's signature red hair flowed untamed behind her, unlike her usual well-kept appearance. Other images showcased a receding hairline and a possible hair condition, as she had a bald spot. Despite looking a little worse for wear, the comedian appeared in high spirits as she strolled while chatting with another woman. Many suspected that Griffin's multiple health battles, including a hysterectomy in early April to treat a pre-cancerous condition, had taken a toll on her health. From a failed LASIK surgery that partially blinded one of her eyes to complications from liposuction that nearly killed her and mental health struggles, the media personality's medical history was quite colorful. Despite her health battles, Kathy Griffin remains a strong advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. However, are her concerns about Donald Trump's administration valid?

Kathy Griffin debuts bold new look with wig at Hustler book signing after frail appearance sparks fears

Kathy Griffin stepped out in West Hollywood on Wednesday with a striking new appearance — just days after sparking concern with a shocking frail look. The 64-year-old comedian turned heads last week when she was spotted on a walk in Malibu, looking almost unrecognizable in her first public sighting since undergoing a hysterectomy in early April. Griffin's gray pallor and visibly thinning hair left fans stunned — some comparing her ghostly complexion to the bloody, severed head of Donald Trump she infamously posed with in 2017, a photo that nearly destroyed her career. But on Wednesday, the former sitcom star was practically unrecognizable in a different way. Wearing a vibrant red wig, full glam makeup, and flashing a wide smile, Griffin posed confidently at a book signing event for Hustler®: 50 Years of Freedom, celebrating the infamous adult magazine. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. She leaned into the risqué theme with a revealing black corset top and a Hustler-branded bomber jacket, happily posing with the book's author — Hustler founder Larry Flynt's widow, Liz Flynt. Later, Kathy was spotted playfully kicking up her heels before sliding into her car as she left the event. The high-spirited display was a world away from her Malibu outing, where her signature bright red hair hung loose around her shoulders, contrasting sharply with the jarring paleness of her skin — and where her receding hairline and visible scalp issues suggested a bald spot or condition. Known for her biting humor and criticism of Republicans, the Catholic League and celebrity culture, Griffin has opened up about her history of health struggles, starting with a binge eating disorder as a teen. She has also been open about her extensive history with cosmetic procedures, including breast augmentation, a nose job, lip tattooing, a botched LASIK surgery in 2003 that left one eye partially blinded, and life-threatening complications from a 1999 liposuction. She's also battled mental health struggles, especially after the notorious 2017 photo showing her holding what appeared to be Donald Trump's severed head sparked intense backlash. At the time, Trump condemned the image on Twitter, saying, 'Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!' Donald Trump Jr. added fuel to the fire during a Good Morning America interview, declaring, 'She deserves everything that's coming to her.' Amid the controversy, Griffin, her elderly mother, and her terminally ill sister received death threats, marking one of the darkest chapters of her tumultuous career. The Trump administration went further, placing Griffin on its no-fly list and prompting a Justice Department investigation lasting over two months to determine whether her photo amounted to a conspiracy to assassinate the president — a probe that ultimately led nowhere in legal terms. 'I was erased.' Griffin ended up apologizing for the Trump effigy, posting on Twitter that, 'I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people, it wasn't funny, I get it.' She financed and produced 'Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story,' a 2019 documentary about the Trump photo and how it changed her life. Meanwhile, her anxiety and chronic back pain triggered a pill addiction, which spiraled into severe depression and an attempt to end her life in 2020. Then in 2021, she was diagnosed with lung cancer, even though she never smoked. A surgery to remove half of her left lung damaged her vocal cords, causing her to undergo at least one more operation to improve her ability to speak. Griffin came forward on social media in 2023 to say that her cancer fight and years of Trump backlash contributed to extreme post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and caused severe anxiety attacks that at times had her writhing in bed for eight hours. She talked about the ordeal in a video posted to her TikTok account. She said at the time that she managed her anxiety partly by pushing herself to do daily tasks such as feeding her dog or taking walks. Griffin took small, but brisk steps on her recent trek in Malibu wearing a gray top, black leggings and designer purse. Such details are the kind of fodder she has used in her brand of caustic comedy aimed at everyone from Barbara Walters to the Octomom to Jesus Christ. Raised in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago, Kathleen Mary Griffin attended acting school and launched her acting and comedy career in Los Angeles in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Her supporting role on the Brooke Shields sitcom Suddenly Susan and starring role in Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List — winner of two Emmys for Outstanding Reality Show — marked her big breaks on TV. She was a regular on late night talk shows, has performed in 20 stand-up comedy specials on HBO, Comedy Central and Bravo, and has appeared in 45 movies. Griffin finalized her divorce from marketing executive Randy Bick in January after four years of marriage.

Kathy Griffin STILL playing the victim over bloody Trump decapitation photo eight years on

Kathy Griffin is still whining about her 2017 cancelation after she posed for a photo that 'jokingly' suggested she'd just beheaded Donald Trump. Griffin, 64, has now complained that Stephen Colbert made her cry by ambushing her about the incident during a 2018 interview, despite her attempts to ban him from doing so. The comedian called Colbert a d*ck In a YouTube video published Tuesday, where she billed the interview as a 'bullsh*t ambush'. Griffin, who is famed for playing the victim over the Trump incident, also argued the CBS host's line of questioning was 'laced with misogyny,' and accused Colbert of punching down on a 'D-list celebrity'. The claims came seven years after the sitdown in question, and nearly eight after the controversy that caused Griffin to lose her plum hosting gig at CNN. The interview with Colbert months later saw her lightly pressed about the May 2017 photo-up. Griffin said she'd just been questioned by the Secret Service over the photo and had begged with Colbert to avoid the topic First, showrunners obliged, she said - before recalling how they shifted course at the 11th hour. The comic compared the ensuing experience to a grilling one might expect on '60 Minutes' instead of a satirical talk show. She claimed Colbert - a comic as well - 'kept going and kept going' with his questions. 'And then the tears came,' Griffin said. Insisting she held her tears back until the very end of the interview, Griffin titled her nearly half-hour video 'Stephen Colbert Made Me CRY!' She recalled thinking: 'Wow, [Colbert] has way more of a bias against me and my right to take that photo than I imagined.' 'So I felt my eyes fill up, and I thought, "Oh God no, anything but this."' '"You're a grown woman who's a female comedian trying to prove that you can keep up with the boys. You cannot cry."' 'I am glad to say not one tear escaped my tear ducts, so I did not cry,' she then touted. 'I did not have a tear that was visible to the audience. I don't think the audience could tell that my eyes filled up.' At the same time, Griffin said she suspected Colbert - who had asked if she felt the photo-op was protected by her First Amendment rights - was aware of the emotional damage he was supposedly causing. 'I do think Stephen could tell,' she asserted. 'It did not stop him. I did not feel he had any empathy, but I did feel he had an understanding of what was happening, and that's what made it worse.' The claims came seven years after the sitdown in question, and nearly eight after the controversy that caused Griffin to lose her plum gig at CNN . The interview with Colbert months later saw her lightly pressed about the May 2017 photo-up 'And I remember thinking, "You asked me to be on this show. I'm a guest. This is your show. This is your world,"' Griffin continued. She said the sitdown caused her to detest the Late Show host. 'I have such a low opinion of Stephen Colbert now,' the small-part actress said. 'He's not gonna hear about this, but if he does, he'll probably issue one of those statements saying I made the whole thing up, and that I'm irrelevant, and that he didn't know I was crying, bla bla bla. 'I'm so used to guys making statements like that about me, it's ridiculous.' She then accused the longtime satirist of using his platform to 'punch down' on her - a small-time comic. 'He's obviously very bright, but man, what a dick,' she complained. 'And to go for me of all people, just, to me, it had such a, it was so laced with misogyny, 'But that undercurrent of misogyny where he would probably be shocked to hear that anyone would accuse of him of having an ounce of misogyny,' Griffin continued. 'I just remember thinking, "He would not talk down to the guys like this. He just wouldn't."' Griffin claimed she did not release her tears until the interview's conclusion. 'I was still smiling and waving, and I could feel them coming down my cheeks,' she proclaimed, before claiming an executive producer went up to her to ask about her tears. At the same time, she said the producer tried to explain away Colbert's line of questioning. '"He just couldn't get over the picture. He just can't get over it,"' she recalled of what the staffer alleged said. 'And I go, "What's for him to get over? I don't understand. It wasn't a picture of his decapitated head."' The argument echoed the one she offered Colbert years earlier, after the latter spent some 10 minutes asking her about the photo and the backlash that came with it. At the time, Griffin doubled down that it was her right to take a photo of her holding what looked like the president's decapitated head under the First Amendment - a stance that failed to completely sway Colbert. 'There are limits, though, to what you can say about the President of the United States, having specifically to do with harm against the President of the United States,' Colbert, a Democrat, argued. 'Right, which I did not do,' Griffin shot back, showing no indication of the tears said were still to come. 'Well, you were holding up a severed head,' Colbert pushed back. 'No, no. It was a mask. A Halloween mask with ketchup,' Griffin said. 'Where would I get a severed head?'

EXCLUSIVE Pale and frail Kathy Griffin sparks health fears while spotted hiking in Malibu after hysterectomy

Kathy Griffin has endured all kinds of hell. A recent sighting of the firebrand comedienne walking in her Malibu neighborhood suggests her many professional, mental health and medical crises have taken a toll on her appearance. Griffin, 64, looked almost unrecognizable when spotted for the first time since undergoing a hysterectomy in early April to treat a pre-cancerous condition. Although she seemed to have her energy back post-surgery while logging her steps with a female companion, her gray pallor was almost as startling as what appeared to be the bloody, severed head of Donald Trump she posed with in a notorious 2017 satire that nearly tanked her career. Known for her biting humor and criticism of Republicans, the Catholic League and celebrity culture, Griffin has opened up about her history of health struggles, starting with a binge eating disorder as a teen. Her appearance was drastically different from her last sighting. Griffin's signature fiery-red hair had drastically receded and thinned out, while her face looked gaunt She also has spoken out about her long string of cosmetic procedures ranging from a breast augmentation, nose job and lip tattoo to a botched LASIK surgery in 2003 that partially blinded one of her eyes and complications from a 1999 liposuction that nearly killed her.
