Pierce County has a new tulip festival that starts this weekend. Here's what to know
Spring is here, and if you don't want to drive all the way up to Mount Vernon to see fields of colorful tulips, you're in luck.
Spring Bloom is a new tulip festival in the South Sound. It starts April 5 at Knutson Farms at 16406 78th St. E. near Sumner.
The farm is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except for Mondays and Easter Sunday on April 20. The festival ends May 4.
'[The farm has] been farming for decades, primarily rhubarb and daffodils, and this festival is a whole new direction for a very traditional farm to thrive,' Sumner Mayor Kathy Hayden wrote in a city newsletter Wednesday.
The Knutson Farms website says guests can visit 5 acres of tulips and also go to an animal barn, play barn games, visit food trucks and more. Tickets are $15 for general admission. More information is available at
'While this will not be the peak bloom weekend for the tulips, the weather will be amazing and perfect for a day of farm fun,' the farm posted on Facebook Wednesday.
The post said the farm will share field updates on social media each Friday.
