Rankin County municipal elections: See candidates in Brandon, Flowood, Pearl and Richland
Municipal elections for 2025 are right around the corner, and the 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, deadline to file paperwork in order to run has passed. Several cities in Rankin County have contested races for mayor and aldermen. Primary elections are on April 1, and general election day is on June 3. Read on to find out who has filed to run in Brandon, Flowood, Pearl and Richland. Executive committees in different cities will certify the candidates sometime this week, so the following lists are not the final, qualified lists of candidates. Incumbent Brandon Mayor Butch Lee, Republican, will run against challenger Fred Shanks, Republican. Lee is currently nearing the end of his third term as Brandon Mayor. Shanks has been a Mississippi House of Representative member since 2018 and is the current House Rules Committee Chairman. Sharon Womack (Incumbent), Republican Jarrad Craine (Incumbent), Independent Cris Vinson (Incumbent), Republican Harry Williams (Incumbent), Republican Lu Coker (Incumbent), Republican Jereme King, Republican Dwight Middleton (Incumbent), Republican David E. Farris (Incumbent), Republican Who is running in Madison County? See who's running for mayor, aldermen in suburban cities Kathy Smith, Republican and Greg Wilcox, Republican, will face off to serve as the next Flowood Mayor. David Stovall (Incumbent), Republican Sammy Williams (Incumbent), Republican Gerald Duckworth, Republican Keith Dennis (Incumbent), Republican Johnny Steverson (Incumbent), Republican Gary Broadwater, Republican Everett Butler, Independent Casey S. Foy (Incumbent), Republican Dwight Knight (Incumbent), Independent Leon Seals, Republican Kyle Foster (Incumbent), Republican Chris Tapia, Republican Incumbent Richland Mayor Clay Burns will run against challenger Garsheo "Gus" Black, both of whom are running as independents. Burns was elected mayor during a special election on March 5, 2024, filling the vacancy left when former Mayor Pat Sullivan retired several months prior. During the special election, Burns won a runoff vote against Scot Mancil, who is running for Alderman at Large in the upcoming election. Black is currently serving as an Alderman at Large. All aldermen running are also running as independents. The following are all candidates who have filed to run for Alderman at Large as Richland does not have aldermen by wards: John W.
