A470: Woman sentenced for causing dangerous driving injury
A woman has avoided an immediate prison sentence after she admitted driving dangerously in Builth Wells. Katie Skyrme had admitted causing serious injury to Paul Smethurst by dangerous driving following an incident involving a Volkswagen Golf she was driving on the A470 at Erwood on July 23, 2023. It happened between Erwood Bridge and the junction with Llyswen. The 20-year-old of Staunton-on-Wye in Hereford was sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, May 14. She had pleaded guilty in April. Magistrates sentenced Skyrme to eight months in prison because the incident caused serious injuries. But they said they would suspend it for 12 months has they were satisfied it was not a dangerous manoeuvre, there was no evidence of excessive speed, the incident happened more than two years ago, and there had been no further offending. Skyrme was banned from driving for three years and will have to complete an extended test in order to drive in the future, and she must complete a rehabilitation activity and 80 hours of unpaid work.
