Railway ministry to hire signalling staff on contractual basis to meet growing needs

The railway ministry has decided to hire signalling and telecom staff on contractual basis for deployment at 10 to 15 major stations in four railway zones as a pilot project to meet the increasing demand of such personnel. In a letter to the general managers of four railway zones -- Northeast Frontier, East Coast, South Western and Western, the ministry said that in recent years there has been a massive expansion of the railway network. The requirement for S&T (signalling and telecom) staff has increased after the implementation of modern signalling systems like Kavach, Automatic Block Signalling (ABS), Intermediate Block Signalling (IBS) and Interlocking of Level Crossing Gates, among others, the ministry said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Never Throw Away the Water After Boiling Eggs - The Reason is Genius! Tips and Tricks Undo "Moreover, track maintenance has also shifted from manual to mechanised for which requirement of S&T staff for disconnecting and reconnecting of signalling equipment has also gone up drastically," it said in the letter issued recently. "For smooth execution of above-mentioned infrastructure, safety and modernization works, avoiding idling of engineering machines and for optimization of traffic blocks, it is essential that S&T gears maintenance system also gets strengthened," it added. Live Events To address these developments, the ministry asked the four zones to choose respective divisions in which as a pilot project, they can hire technical teams on contractual basis for deployment at stations to assist the signalling and telecom staff. It added that each technical team will comprise one or two supervisors or field engineers and four to five technicians at identified stations. "These teams are to be deployed for activities required in signalling & telecom including breakdowns, night gangs and heavy repair gangs along with track machines, day-to-day maintenance, etc, utilizing them to the full under supervision/along with railway staff," the letter said. It added, "Initially, this may be tried for a period of two years with provision of extension for a further period of one to two years." The ministry also suggested that in these four divisions, the hiring work of contractual staff may be executed through PSUs of Indian Railways having experience in S&T fields such as IRCON, RVNL , RailTel and KRCL by limited tender process. "These zonal railways may properly assess their requirements and while finalizing the tender schedule may coordinate amongst each other so as to have uniformity and ensure the rate reasonableness based on their local conditions," the ministry said.

Railways' 9000 HP loco most powerful single-unit electric engine: Govt

The 9000 horsepower electric locomotive, flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Dahod, Gujarat, is the most powerful single-unit electric engine ever developed for Indian Railways, the railway ministry said on Tuesday. "Until now, freight locomotives have typically operated at 4500 or 6000 HP capacities. While 12,000 HP engines do exist, they are created by coupling two 6000 HP units," the ministry said in a statement. "In contrast, the Dahod-built locomotive offers a unified, high-powered solution that can haul significantly longer and heavier freight trains with ease," it added. According to the ministry, this leap in capacity means fewer trips are needed for the same volume of goods, resulting in faster turnaround times, reduced congestion and improved freight efficiency. It stated that the increased hauling power of the 9000 HP locomotive offers a solution to one of Indian Railways' biggest challenges: congestion on high-density freight routes. "With fewer locomotives required to pull heavier loads, rail traffic can be optimised, thereby easing pressure on busy corridors," the statement said. "Moreover, by replacing multiple smaller engines with one high-performance locomotive, Indian Railways stands to reduce operating costs, manpower requirements and energy consumption. These gains will ultimately translate into lower logistics costs for industries, contributing to more competitive pricing and streamlined supply chains," it added. In 2022, Prime Minister Modi announced Dahod's resurgence as a railway manufacturing powerhouse, which materialised with the setting up of a world-class facility in partnership with Siemens India through a transparent tendering process. "The facility, designed to produce 1,200 cutting-edge electric freight locomotives with a powerful 9000 HP capacity, stands as a testament to India's engineering prowess and industrial ambition," the ministry said. It emphasised that the factory is equipped to produce both Broad Gauge locomotives for Indian Railways and Standard Gauge locomotives for export and this dual capability strengthens India's positioning in the global rail manufacturing market. "With 89 per cent of the components made in India, the project aligns perfectly with the 'Make in India' and 'Make for World' visions. High-quality, cost-effective production makes these locomotives highly exportable, opening new doors for India in international railway supply chains," the statement added. Highlighting its deep integration of sustainability, the ministry said that the manufacturing process itself is powered by green energy, earning the facility a 'Green Manufacturing' tag. "From factory-fitted Kavach (India's indigenous train collision avoidance system) to modern driver cabins with air-conditioning, low noise and minimal vibration, the 9000 HP engine is engineered with safety and comfort in mind," it said. Talking about employment generation, the ministry said that around 85 per cent of the jobs created through the infrastructure development are held by local youth. "The 9000 HP locomotive will turn out to be the linchpin of a bold new freight ecosystem. Its power, efficiency and design sophistication promise to make Indian Railways more competitive, more sustainable and better equipped for future demands," the ministry said.

Roll out of India's most powerful and modern rail engine likely to spur exports, revolutionise freight ops

Roll out of India's most powerful and modern rail engine likely to spur exports, revolutionise freight ops NEW DELHI: The roll out of India's single most powerful and modern electric rail engine with 9,000 horsepower (HP) by PM Narendra Modi marks a new beginning as this loco can pull freight trains with a load of 4,500-5,000 tonnes at a top speed of 100 kmph. Railway officials said this will not only bring a revolution in freight operations, but they are hopeful the engines will also find takers across the globe. While broad-gauge electric locomotives are being manufactured for Indian Railways, standard-gauge locos are being produced for the export market. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the train engine manufactured at the Dahod Locomotive Workshop will run in other parts of the world as well. He added that the loco features regenerative braking systems, aimed at lowering energy consumption and supporting environmental sustainability. 'This comes at a time when railways is targeting to increase the share of cargo transport by rail and faster transportation. This is going to be a big boon in bringing down logistics cost and help decongest the saturated tracks,' said a senior official. As per the plan, the Dahod railway workshop will produce 1,200 such locos over 11 years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Here's A List Of Cheapest Steel Suppliers (See List) Steel Suppliers | search ads Search Now Undo The foundation stone for this Rs 21,405 crore project was laid by the PM in April 2022 and the first electric locomotive rolled out on Monday, in a record time of just 37 months. Vivek Dahiya On His Struggles With Alcohol During Lockdown: ‘Became A Lifestyle'

Last Updated: Vivek turned to therapy, where he would meditate, do breathing exercises and concentrate on things he wanted to achieve to let go of his habit of drinking. Vivek Dahiya, along with his wife, actress Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya, never misses an opportunity to keep their fans entertained with their food, travel and fitness content. Beyond the smiles and picture-perfect moments lies a chapter that Vivek recently chose to open up about. The actor revealed his personal battle with alcoholism, shedding light on the struggle and how he overcame it. Known for his roles in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Kavach and Qayamat ki Raat, Vivek recently appeared as a guest on the podcast Uncensored with Shardul, hosted by Shardul Pandit on his YouTube channel Shaardulogy. While speaking with the host, the actor candidly revealed that he got addicted to alcohol during the COVID-19 lockdown, which even led to frustration in his life. The duo was talking about Vivek's personality when the actor said, 'I started drinking, I was never a heavy drinker, very casual party kind of person. I would never sit down with a glass and be sombre, and like duniya mein bohot dukh hai chalo daaru peete hain (there's so much sadness in the world, let's drink alcohol), I was never like that. I was a very occasional party drinker." Sharing that his father had been like him, Vivek revealed that his dad once advised him that whenever he built his home, he must have a good bar. What his father meant was for him to collect expensive and one-of-a-kind drinks from all around the world on his trip. Vivek shared that he took his father's advice seriously and started collecting limited edition bottles from his trip with his wife. However, he never quite really drank from that collection. But COVID-19 lockdown changed that. Vivek revealed, 'During lockdown, I suddenly felt that if something happened to me, what would happen to these bottles? Of course, some of it will go to my father and the rest to my father-in-law, but they won't be able to consume it all. So, I started drinking because I was very concerned about it." He continued, 'Every night, I used to sit with a glass and watch content, I would not do anything stupid. It became a lifestyle," adding that the habit took a toll on his life, disrupting his sleep schedule and metabolism. Vivek even shared that drinking regularly led to an increase in frustration. 'I started witnessing a pattern and realised this is not something I would like to continue doing," he said. Once the lockdown was eased, Vivek realised how everyone was excited to be going back to their world, but he was 'stuck with a belly, no hair, dark circles." He then realised that he needed to let that habit go and even turned to therapy, where he would be with himself, meditate, do breathing exercises, concentrate on things he wanted to achieve and never look.
