Two dead following separate Northland, Waikato crashes

Photo: RNZ / Tim Brown Two people have died in separate road crashes on Saturday in Northland and the Waikato. In Northland, emergency services were called to a serious two-vehicle crash on SH1 near Waiomio, south of Kawakawa, shortly after midnight. One person died at the scene. Police said the serious crash unit had examined the site and the highway had since re-opened. At about 7.40am, emergency services were called to another fatal crash on Waikoha Road in Karamu, near Waipā in the Waikato. Police said one man died at the scene, after a vehicle left the road and rolled into a paddock. Investigations into both crashes are ongoing. SH1 partly blocked in Northland, near Kawakawa

(File photo) Photo: 123rf Part of State Highway 1 in Northland has been blocked after a crash, with three people injured. A truck and car had collided on the highway, between Main Road and Hautapu Road, at Moerewa, near Kawakawa, police said. One person was seriously injured, one had moderate injuries, and another had minor injuries The crash was reported about 8pm on Sunday. NZTA said the crash was affecting traffic travelling west from Snowden Avenue was affected, and drivers should expect delays and follow the directions of emergency services workers.
