(AP Photo/Armando Franca, File) Cristiano Ronaldo's time at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr might be done. The 40-year-old Portugal striker posted a message on social media hours after the final round of the Saudi Pro League late Monday sparking speculation over the future of one of the most high-profile figures in sports. Advertisement 'This chapter is over,' Ronaldo told his 115 million followers on X, above a picture of him in an Al-Nassr jersey. 'The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.' The five-time world player of the year joined Al-Nassr in late 2022 and his contract will expire at the end of June. On Saturday, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said Ronaldo could play at the new-look, expanded Club World Cup starting on June 14 because of a unique transfer window created for the tournament. 'There are discussions with some clubs," Infantino told online streamer IShowSpeed, whose YouTube channel has more than 39 million subscribers. "So if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup, who knows. Still a few weeks time, will be fun.' Ronaldo did not react on Saturday to Infantino's speculation on his social media channels. ___ AP soccer:

Cristiano Ronaldo wins Saudi League Golden Boot but Al-Nassr miss out on AFC Champions League football
Al-Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo scored early on to give his side the lead in their final game of the Saudi Pro League season against Al-Fateh. It was his 99th goal in 111 appearances for the Riyadh-based club. However, his effort was not enough as Al-Fateh returned from a goal down to win 3-2 and ruin Al-Nassr's chances of qualifying for the Asian Champions League as they finished in third place. Ronaldo registered 25 goals and three assists (12 big chances created) in 29 appearances in the Saudi League to clinch the Golden Boot for the second consecutive season. The 40-year-old Portuguese international netted 35 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions this season. Unfortunately, he did not have the silverware to crown his efforts. Al-Nassr crashed out of the Champions League semi-finals against Kawasaki Frontale while missing out on the Saudi Super Cup and the King's Cup. The only silverware he has picked since his exit from Manchester United in November 2023 is the Arab Club Champions Cup. Following the game, there will be plenty of speculation about where Ronaldo plays next as his contract is up in June, and he continues to chase that record of 1000 career goals. Immediately after the loss to Al-Fateh, Ronaldo released a cryptic post on Twitter that read, 'This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.' FIFA president Gianni Infantino suggested the former Real Madrid and Juventus star could be at the FIFA Club World Cup showpiece this summer. According to a report from The Athletic, Ronaldo's entourage was unhappy with the comment. For now, it seems only the player knows where he will be plying his trade next term. Ronaldo will be eager to reach the 1000-goal mark before hanging up his boots. He currently has a staggering 936 career goals.

Ronaldo announces Al-Nassr chapter ‘over'
Al Nassr's Cristiano Ronaldo greets his fans during Riyadh Season Cup 2024 final match at Kingdom Arena Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024. (AP Photo) Portugal icon Cristiano Ronaldo indicated on Monday that he could leave Al-Nassr after declaring that a 'chapter is over' hours after the Saudi Pro League finished. Ronaldo, 40, joined Al-Nassr in 2022 from Manchester United and his contract in Saudi Arabia ends this summer. A special transfer window runs from June 1-10 to allow the 32 clubs involved in the Club World Cup to sign players. 'This chapter is over,' Ronaldo cryptically said on social media with a photo of him in an Al-Nassr shirt. 'The story? Still being written. 'Grateful to all,' the former Real Madrid and Juventus attacker added. Al-Nassr missed out on the Asian Champions League Elite, losing to Japan's Kawasaki Frontale in April's semi-finals and were third in the Saudi Pro League. Ronaldo ended as the league's top goal scorer on 24. Last year, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner said he could end his career wit Al-Nassr.

Reo Hatate advised on Celtic transfer future by Brazil hero
Italian outfit Udinese are the latest to be linked with a move for the Hoops star who has shone since his switch from J-League Kawasaki Frontale. Celts manager Brendan Rodgers would love to hold onto the 27-year-old and intimated that he expects the club to sit down with their key player and discuss a new contract. Hatate is on record as keen to play in the English Premier League and has reportedly attracted interest from there too. Udinese had scouts watching as he scored two in an impressive 5-1 thumping of Kilmarnock. Celtic would likely demand a hefty fee if they were to part with the player, though. Now, Brazil legend Zico has given his thoughts on the situation after discussing Hatate with Toru Oniki, who coached the Japan international at Kawasaki Frontale. Read more: Liverpool set to complete transfer of former Celtic star Brendan Rodgers responds to Greg Taylor Celtic contract question He told the Sunday Post: "I spoke recently about Hatate with Toru Oniki, his coach at (Kawaski) Frontale for years. "He told me that he was a strong, fast player with a winning mentality, who has already won a lot in his career. "He said he is an excellent player, highly regarded, who can operate well in any position across the midfield. "All indications are he could do very well. Certainly, I would imagine in Italy, especially with a team like Udinese, where he would have time to settle in better." Asked about Hatate after the transfer speculation, Rodgers said: "Yeah, I think for Reo I can feel a little bit of inconsistency, especially in the first few games. There's absolutely no doubt he's a big talent. "He's obviously a bit later in age now but maybe some clubs look at him and think he's at the wrong end of the asset age, they tend to go for that younger player. "For me, he's an absolutely outstanding player. The way he takes the ball, he's prepared to play that risky pass. He's got goals. "A really gifted player, it took me a wee while to get his inside his mind but he's absolutely superb. Certainly not underestimated by us because he's been really, really good this year." Hatate sat out yesterday's draw with St Mirren after picking up an injury midweek against Aberdeen and will now miss the Scottish Cup final against the Dons.
