Recruiting analyst 'confident' MSU holds onto 4-star QB Kayd Coffman despite uptick in interest

Recruiting analyst 'confident' MSU holds onto 4-star QB Kayd Coffman despite uptick in interest The Spartans' top commit in the 2026 class is gaining more attention on the recruiting trail, but one national analyst is "confident" Michigan State will hold on in the end. Four-star quarterback Kayd Coffman of Grand Rapids, Mich. has recently received a bump in the recruiting rankings and gained more interest from some big schools such as Ohio State and Colorado. Those two factors have resulted in some Spartans fans wondering if he'll consider opening up his commitment to go elsewhere, but that reportedly isn't what Greg Smith of Rivals believes. Smith -- who is a national recruiting analyst -- is reportedly "confident that Michigan State will keep (Coffman) in the fold." Coffman is listed as a four-star prospect with a 91.07 247Sports' composite rating. He ranks as the No. 19 quarterback and No. 259 overall prospect in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class. He is also listed as the No. 4 player from Michigan in the class. Coffman committed to Michigan State in February and ever since then has gone up the recruiting rankings. He recently earned a fourth star from Rivals, and picked up an offer from Colorado earlier this month. There is no indication at this time that Coffman is planning on opening up his recruitment but the report from Smith is still refreshing for the Spartans. It's clear that Coffman is a great get at the most important position for Michigan State, and it'll be extremely important for Jonathan Smith and his staff to hold onto this major in-state commitment. Three Predictions: Michigan State, Nebraska, Illinois

Rivals national recruiting analyst Greg Smith has predictions on Michigan State keeping a critical commit in the fold, a big season ahead for a certain Big Ten quarterback and Illinois getting early help from a key 2025 signee. The Michigan State commit was very close to receiving an automatic invite to the Elite11 Finals with a strong performance at regional camp. He followed that up with an MVP performance at the UA Next Camp in Ohio. Advertisement He continues to draw interest from other programs. Ohio State has been pursuing him but recently Colorado put down an offer for him. Still, I'm predicting that the Michigan native sticks with the Spartans and signs with coach Jonathan Smith in December. Now is the time for the Huskers to make the next step as a program under coach Matt Rhule. If that step happens it'll be in part because former five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola took a leap. Advertisement Raiola had a solid freshman year throwing for 2,819 yards with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. I'm expecting Raiola to eclipse 3,000 yards passing with at least 25 touchdown passes in 2025. The team has a host of new weapons for him to throw to. There were a couple nice portal additions along the offensive line too. The coaching staff has also been upgraded to help. This should be a big year for Raiola and the Huskers. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NEBRASKA FANS AT BRAYDEN TRIMBLE CATCHES 30-PLUS PASSES AS A FRESHMAN Nick Lucero/ Brayden Trimble is looking like a steal for the Illini based on the early reviews of his game down in Champaign. We had the wideout rated as a high three-star at the end of last recruiting cycle but he could have easily been higher. He was a top performer at the Rivals Camp Series in Indianapolis a couple of years ago displaying a large catch radius and strong hands. Advertisement Illinois is replacing a lot of production this year making it a ripe opportunity for Trimble to step in and get a lot of snaps. I've got him going over 30 catches and having a season similar to last year's Big Ten freshman receiver surprise Nick Marsh. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH ILLINOIS FANS AT

Top MSU commit, 4-star QB Kayd Coffman picks up offer from Deion Sanders, Colorado

Top MSU commit, 4-star QB Kayd Coffman picks up offer from Deion Sanders, Colorado Colorado is the first school to offer Kayd Coffman since he committed to Michigan State in February The top commit in the Spartans' 2026 class has picked up an offer from one of the most known personalities in all of college football. Four-star quarterback and Michigan State commit Kayd Coffman picked up an offer from Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes on Wednesday. Colorado is the first team to extend an offer to Coffman since he committed to Michigan State in February. Coffman announced the offer from Colorado via a post on his social media X account. He included Sanders in his post on the offer. Coffman ranks as the No. 22 quarterback in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class. He is also listed as the No. 295 overall prospect in the class and No. 5 player from Michigan. Coffman holds offers from more than 10 schools, with some of the other more notable programs to offer him being Cincinnati, Duke, Ole Miss, Syracuse and Iowa State. Coffman has recently been gaining more attention on the recruiting trail, with Ohio State also starting to show interest in him. Adding Sanders and the Buffaloes to the list of schools pursuing him will only make things harder for Michigan State to retain his very important commitment.
