JOHOR BARU, May 24 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar is committed to focusing on developing strategies to strengthen the party together with the new leadership team. Speaking to reporters following the announcement of her new role, Nurul Izzah said she also plans to implement internal reforms while preparing for the upcoming general election. She said she would share the plans after the conclusion of the Keadilan National Congress 2024/2025. 'I ask for your prayers as my husband and I will be departing for Makkah to perform the haj soon,' she said yesterday. Nurul Izzah garnered 9,803 votes, defeating incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who is also the economy minister, in yesterday's party election. The success of the 'Puteri Reformasi' in securing the post from the sole contender and incumbent, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, reflects the grassroots' confidence in her role and ideals that she has championed since PKR was founded nearly three decades ago. Rising from the vice presidency, the 44-year-old Nurul Izzah has now ascended to the party's second-highest position and is regarded as a leading figure of PKR's new generation of leadership ahead of the 16th general election (GE16). Nurul Izzah, the eldest daughter of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PKR president, and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, held the vice-president post from 2010 until her resignation in 2018. – Bernama

Anwar attends special state development meeting in Johor
ISKANDAR PUTERI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today attended the Johor Special State Development Meeting at Bangunan Dato' Jaafar Muhammad, Kota Iskandar here. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, arrived at 10.15am and was greeted by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar Also present were Economy Ministry secretary-general Datuk Nor Azmie Diron, Finance Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Zamzuri Abdul Aziz, Johor State Secretary Tan Sri Azmi Rohani and other state government leaders. The meeting lasted for about an hour. Anwar, who is also the PKR president, is scheduled to attend the 2024-2025 Keadilan National Congress at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Johor Baru at noon before performing Friday prayers at Masjid Jamek Ar-Raudhah Kampung Dato' Onn. In the evening, he is slated to officiate the 2025 Johor Madani Rakyat Programme at Toppen Shopping Centre, Johor Baru, before presμenting the keynote address and launching the 2024/2025 Keadilan National Congress at the Persada International Convention Centre tonight. — BERNAMA
