Schumi's 2001 Ferrari just sold for £13.4 million
Schumi's 2001 Ferrari just sold for £13.4 million Making it the most expensive Ferrari F1 car ever Skip 24 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 24 For the second time in its life, Michael Schumacher's F2001 has become the most expensive Ferrari F1 car ever sold at auction, after going under the hammer for £13.4m big ones (or $18.2m slightly smaller ones) in Monaco this weekend. Rewind seven-and-a-half years and this exact chassis fetched about half that – $7.5m, or closer to $10m today – when it became the most expensive F1 car in history. The 3.0-litre V10-engined F2001 was the car with which Schumi clinched his second world championship for Ferrari (and fourth overall). He won nine grands prix that season, including Monaco, and so dominant was he that victory in Hungary sealed the deal… in August. With four races to spare. Overseen by RM Sotheby's, a donation will be made to the Keep Fighting Foundation – the charity set up after the tragic skiing accident that left Michael with severe brain injuries – from the proceeds of the sale. Michael Schumacher tribute unveiled by son Mick and Sebastian Vettel: ‘Keep fighting'
A group of prominent Formula 1 figures showed their support for Michael Schumacher at the Race of Champions in Sydney as they urged the seven-time world champion to 'keep fighting'. Mick Schumacher, the German great's son, and former F1 driver Sebastian Vettel were among those in attendance as a banner was unveiled at the Accor Stadium. Schumacher suffered a traumatic brain injury in a skiing accident in 2013 and has not since been seen in public, with few updates provided by his family about his health as he rehabilitates privately. The banner promoted the Keep Fighting Foundation established four years after the incident that continues charitable work in the 56-year-old's name. All 20 competing drivers in Sydney were involved in displaying the supportive message. France's Sebastien Loeb, a nine-time world champion in rallying, won the event by defeating home hopeful Chaz Mostert in the final. Vettel and Mick Schumacher, providing German representation, each exited at the quarter-final stage. The event came ahead of the start of the Formula 1 season in Melbourne this weekend. Race day at the Australian Grand Prix is Sunday 16 March as Max Verstappen bids for a fifth successive Drivers' Championship. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, will again chase a record eighth world title after his move to Ferrari having tied Schumacher's tally in 2020.

Schumacher and Vettel Led RoC in Heartfelt Tribute to Michael Schumacher
Ahead of Saturday night's Champions of Champions event of the Race of Champions, Team Germany teammates Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher led the 20 drivers in a tribute to Mick's dad and F1 great Michael Schumacher, who continues to battle a traumatic brain injury sustained in a skiing accident in 2013. Vettel and Schumacher were tasked with representing Team Germany for the second time, first in 2023 when the event was held in Sweden before the 2024 sabbatical and again this year in Sydney, Australia. The 20 drivers met on top of the table top jump in the middle of Accord Stadium, and Vettel began to unravel a banner with the words "Keep Fighting Michael - We Miss You" on top and the foundations website, at the bottom. The Schumacher family continues to protect Michael's privacy while continuing his charitable work through their Keep Fighting Foundation. Before Michael's accident, Vettel and the elder Schumacher won the Race of Champions for Germany together six consecutive times from 2007 to 2012. Vettel and Schumacher were knocked out of Friday's Nations Cup by the home team, Australia, represented by Supercars Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki after the teams first due a tie sending Vettel up against Kostecki in the tie breaker. Australia would fall to France on Friday night before WRC's Sebastian Loeb took Saturday's Champion of Champions as well to become the first five-time winner of the international event.
