Mass. man found guilty of first-degree murder in 2021 fatal stabbing
A Brockton man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in a 2021 fatal stabbing in the city, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday. Keith Disharoom, 44, was convicted in connection with the death of 44-year-old Eric Cohen in Plymouth County Superior Court on Tuesday, the district attorney's office said in a press release. On July 18, 2021, Brockton police responded to 553 North Main St. for a report of an assault and battery with a knife, the district attorney's office said. Officers found Cohen unresponsive at the scene with two stab wounds to his upper chest. Cohen was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton before being transferred to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston where he was declared dead, the district attorney's office said. Through witness interviews and a review of security video footage, investigators discovered that Disharoom and Cohen got into a fight during which Disharoom stabbed Cohen. Codefendant Mark Stroud, 29, is accused of hitting Cohen's service dog and a nearby woman with a bat while the two other men were fighting, the district attorney's office. Stroud is charged with first-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and animal cruelty in connection with the incident. Disharoom is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, Aug. 1, the district attorney's office said. Mass. man sentenced to life in prison without chance of parole for killing man in stabbing
A Brockton man was sentenced to life in prison for killing another man in a stabbing incident in 2021, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz's office said on Friday. Keith Disharoom, 44, was sentenced to a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole, Cruz's office said in a statement. A Brockton man found guilty of fatally stabbing a homeless man who was walking his service dog in the city in 2021 was sentenced Friday, Aug. 1, to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. A jury found Keith Disharoom, 44, guilty Tuesday, July 29, of one count of first-degree murder in the July 2021 stabbing death of 44-year-old Eric Cohen, formerly of Holbrook, the DA's office said. Cohen was walking his service dog, Righteous, on North Main Street when the incident occured. Disharoom was sentenced Friday in Plymouth Superior Court to serve the mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Righteous, who survived the attack, attended Disharoom's initial arraignment in 2021 along with Cohen's family and close friends. 'Awful incident': Brockton man found guilty of murdering homeless man walking service dog
A Brockton man was found guilty Tuesday, July 29, of fatally stabbing a homeless man walking his service dog in the city in 2021, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. Keith Disharoom, 44, was found guilty Tuesday of one count of first-degree murder in the July 2021 stabbing death of 44-year-old Eric Cohen, formerly of Holbrook, the DA's office said. He is scheduled for a sentencing hearing in Brockton Superior Court Friday, Aug. 1. Another man, Mark Stroud, 29, is accused of beating Cohen's service dog during the altercation. Cohen's service dog, named Righteous, survived the attack. He accompanied Cohen's family and friends to Disharoom's initial arraignment in Brockton District Court in 2021. During his initial arraignment in Brockton District Court, prosecutors said Disharoom, then 40, pulled his truck up to the victim, Cohen, who was walking his service dog Righteous on North Main Street at around 7:38 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021. Assistant District Attorney Josh Gedraitis said in court that the two men were familiar with each other and had argued in the past. What prosecutors said: Two men indicted on murder charges in stabbing death of homeless man in Brockton During the incident on July 18, the two engaged in a verbal altercation which escalated when Cohen, who was homeless at the time, allegedly punched Disharoom in the face, according to prosecutors. Disharoom drove away and returned twice to confront Cohen. The second time Disharoom confronted Cohen, two men, one of who was identified as Mark Stroud, then 25, accompanied him, prosecutors said. As the altercation continued to escalate, Disharoom fatally stabbed Cohen twice in the upper chest while Mark Stroud allegedly swung a baseball bat and struck the victim's service dog and another nearby woman, according to the DA's office.
