Hair gets lighter, cocktails get colder, and suddenly, we all pretend we live in linen. But this year, the heat's not just coming from the pavement — it's from the press. The New York Post just announced it's heading west with The California Post, and honestly? The timing couldn't be better. LA is getting its own dose of East Coast attitude, and if that doesn't pair perfectly with poolside sarcasm and SPF 50, I don't know what does. It's the ultimate bi-coastal crossover event: New York's hustle colliding with LA's hair-flipping nonchalance. Think of it as stilettos clacking through LAX: Aggressively punctual, but open to a juice cleanse. For anyone who's ever packed a carry-on with both black jeans and a crochet bikini, this moment is a vibe. Because deep down, we all want to be the kind of person who reads the news and knows which straw hat won't collapse in your beach tote. Advertisement The New York Post is officially expanding to the California Post, in early 2026, 'with a robust news operation that will bring our signature style, wit and attitude to the West Coast and further cement our position as a national news organization,' per Keith Poole, editor-in-chief. New York Post Honestly, it makes sense. LA has always been where style goes to get a tan, and The Post? Well, it spills the tea like no kettle ever could. So while media insiders are talking strategy, I'm over here wondering what this new coastal alliance means for my suitcase, my skincare, and yes, my shoes. Obviously, as a commerce reporter. Because if New York's bringing its headlines to the land of headlines, I'm showing up with looks that say 'ready for paparazzi' even if it's just your friend with an iPhone. Ahead, find my go-to summer essentials: the good, the great and the fashionable. As someone who peruses Amazon for my 9-to-5, this is the ultimate guide to summertime travel essentials. For over 200 years, the New York Post has been America's go-to source for bold news, engaging stories, in-depth reporting, and now, insightful shopping guidance. We're not just thorough reporters – we sift through mountains of information, test and compare products, and consult experts on any topics we aren't already schooled specialists in to deliver useful, realistic product recommendations based on our extensive and hands-on analysis. BOLD RUSH: New York Post expanding to Los Angeles with California Post

The New York Post is heading west. The tabloid's ownership announced that it will launch a sister publication, The California Post, in early 2026. Based out of Los Angeles, the new tabloid will operate separately under the New York Post Media Group, a Murdoch-owned News Corp subsidiary that houses The New York Post, Page Six and Decider. The new paper will provide readers with the same flavor of fiery, gossipy writing they have come to expect from the Post, only now with a California focus. The West Coast version of the Post will include local and entertainment news, sports reporting, and, of course, its own pun-laden covers. The publication will notably include a daily print edition. 'This is the next manifestation of our national brand,' said New York Post editor-in-chief Keith Poole in a statement. 'California is the most populous state in the country, and is the epicenter of entertainment, the AI revolution and advanced manufacturing — not to mention a sports powerhouse.' 'With The California Post, we will bring a common-sense, issue-based approach to metropolitan journalism,' added Poole. The paper will be helmed by editor-in-chief Nick Papps, a News Corp alum who will report into Poole. As a member of the Post Media Group, the California Post will have access to its parent's newsgathering capabilities and share resources with the New York Post, according to the announcement. 'There is no doubt that The Post will play a crucial role in engaging and enlightening readers, who are starved of serious reporting and puckish wit,' said News Corp chief executive Robert Thomson in a statement. The gambit presents a major opportunity for the Post Media Group, as Los Angeles is home to the second-largest concentration of Post digital readers, accounting for some 3.5 million monthly unique visitors and 7.3 million statewide. Around 90% of the Post's digital readers currently reside outside New York's media market, according to the paper's statement. The announcement also looks to take advantage of California's atrophied news media landscape. As California newspapers have faced the same declining ad revenue and rising production costs plaguing outlets nationwide, some outlets have drastically trimmed their newsrooms or shuttered their doors altogether. The state has lost one-third of its newspapers since 2005, per Northwestern Medill School of Journalism's 2023 State of Local News report. By expanding into Hollywood's backyard, the California Post may also attempt to challenge the Tinseltown gossip dominance of L.A.-based trade publications like Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.

The New York Post Announces a California Newspaper

New York's biggest tabloid is heading West. The New York Post said on Monday that it would introduce a new version next year called The California Post, aiming to muscle in to an ailing local news ecosystem on the West Coast. The California Post will have headquarters in Los Angeles and replicate The New York Post's style of bombastic reporting, sports coverage and celebrity gossip from a California perspective, the company said. The newspaper will have its own staff of reporters, editors and photographers, though it will also share some resources with The New York Post. It will publish online and will print a daily edition starting in early 2026. Keith Poole, the editor in chief of The New York Post, will be in charge of both newspapers. Nick Papps, a longtime editor at News Corp's Australian operation, will be the editor in chief of The California Post. 'California is the most populous state in the country, and is the epicenter of entertainment, the A.I. revolution and advanced manufacturing — not to mention a sports powerhouse,' Mr. Poole said in a statement. 'Yet many stories are not being told, and many viewpoints are not being represented.' The Post's move into new territory comes at a time when California's media landscape has hollowed out. Many local newspapers have shuttered, as they have across the country. The Los Angeles Times, the state's biggest daily newspaper, is losing tens of millions of dollars a year and has suffered controversy and a loss of subscriptions over its owner's decision to block an editorial endorsement of last year's Democratic nominee for president, Kamala Harris. It cut its newsroom by more than 20 percent early last year, with further rounds of layoffs and buyouts this year. The New York Post, which was founded by Alexander Hamilton and has been publishing in some form since 1801, already has a large pool of readers in California. The company said L.A. was its second-largest market of readers, and that 90 percent of its digital readership lived outside of New York. Known for its conservative bent as one of Rupert Murdoch's flagship newspapers, The New York Post will also enter California as the race for governor heats up and the state continues to grapple with policy changes from the Trump administration, such as on immigration and the environment. 'We are at a pivotal moment for the city and the state, and there is no doubt that The Post will play a crucial role in engaging and enlightening readers, who are starved of serious reporting and puckish wit,' Robert Thomson, the chief executive of News Corp, the Post's publisher, said in a statement.

New York Post expands west with California edition planned for early 2026

The New York Post Media Group will launch a new venture in 2026 called, The California Post, the company announced on Monday. The California Post will offer readers "a unique and indispensable combination of fearless, common-sense journalism, celebrity and entertainment news, world-class sports reporting and the legendary covers people expect from The New York Post—but from a distinctly Californian perspective," according to the announcement. "Los Angeles and California surely need a daily dose of The Post as an antidote to the jaundiced, jaded journalism that has sadly proliferated. We are at a pivotal moment for the city and the state, and there is no doubt that The Post will play a crucial role in engaging and enlightening readers, who are starved of serious reporting and puckish wit," News Corp Chief Executive Robert Thomson said in a statement. "I am also pleased that Keith Poole's remit is expanding, as he will now be responsible for covering not just New York, but California, the U.S., the world and, perhaps, Mars," Thompson continued. The California Post, which will be headquartered in Los Angeles, will offer content that will appear across multiple platforms and formats, including mobile and desktop sites, video, audio, social media and a daily print edition. "This is the next manifestation of our national brand," Post editor-in-chief Keith Poole said. "California is the most populous state in the country, and is the epicenter of entertainment, the AI revolution and advanced manufacturing—not to mention a sports powerhouse. Yet many stories are not being told, and many viewpoints are not being represented. With The California Post, we will bring a common-sense, issue-based approach to metropolitan journalism," Poole continued. "We'll tell the stories that our readers care about the most, but others overlook, and we'll do so with clarity and our trademark conviction, across print, digital and the platforms where audiences live today." The California Post will operate as a separate entity under the New York Post Media Group and will launch in early 2026. NYPMG has appointed News Corp veteran Nick Papps as The California Post's Editor-in-Chief. "I am also thrilled to welcome Nick Papps to The Post family," Poole said. "Nick has a keen sense for the stories that matter, an understanding of what makes Los Angeles tick and the ability to apply The Post's unique voice to this vibrant market." New York Post Media Group CEO Sean Giancola said Post content is already read "everywhere from the corner store to the corner office," and the new venture will expand the group's reach. "We are trusted by millions for our direct and plain-spoken approach to news, and The New York Post has been the voice of the people in New York for 200 years. California is a vibrant, dynamic market where our unique journalistic ethos will resonate and engage audiences in meaningful ways," Giancola said.
