Kelantan JKR Begins Early Preparations For Monsoon Season
KOTA BHARU, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) has begun early preparations for this year's monsoon season. Its director, Nik Soh Yaacoub, said measures taken include inspecting road structures, ensuring logistics readiness, and repairing damaged roads. 'So far, we have instructed all districts to be prepared, including logistics arrangements, officer assignments, and other steps to ensure flood response plans are implemented smoothly. 'We have also issued directives to repair damaged roads, particularly at identified hotspot locations,' he told reporters after opening the Kelantan JKR Merdeka Trek at the department's headquarters here today. Nik Soh said JKR Kelantan will also work closely with other agencies to ensure swift action if public infrastructure is damaged during floods. It was previously reported that the Works Ministry identified more than 1,000 localities nationwide as high-risk accident areas, or blackspots, including federal roads with inadequate lighting, sharp bends, and damaged structures. On the JKR Merdeka Trek, Nik Soh said the convoy will travel through 10 districts in Kelantan starting today, in the spirit of patriotism ahead of the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. Now in its second edition, the trek involves Kelantan JKR staff, including district engineers and division heads, covering more than 500 kilometres over two days. 'The journey starts at Kota Bharu JKR and continues through Bachok JKR, Pasir Puteh JKR, Machang JKR, Kuala Krai JKR, Gua Musang JKR, Tanah Merah JKR, Jeli JKR, Tumpat JKR and Pasir Mas JKR.

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) has initiated early preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. Director Nik Soh Yaacoub confirmed inspections of road structures and logistics readiness are underway. 'We have instructed all districts to prepare logistics, officer assignments, and flood response plans,' he said. Damaged roads, especially at flood-prone hotspots, are being repaired as a priority. Nik Soh added that JKR Kelantan will collaborate with other agencies for rapid infrastructure repairs during floods. The Works Ministry previously identified over 1,000 high-risk accident zones nationwide. Federal roads with poor lighting, sharp bends, and structural damage were flagged as blackspots. Meanwhile, the Kelantan JKR Merdeka Trek kicked off today to promote National Day celebrations. The convoy will cover 10 districts, spanning 500 kilometres over two days. Nik Soh said 130 motorcyclists will carry the Jalur Gemilang during the patriotic journey. The event aims to strengthen unity among JKR staff while commemorating Malaysia's independence. The trek includes stops at JKR offices in Bachok, Pasir Puteh, Machang, and other districts. Developer and quarry firms to repair roads damaged by overloaded lorries in Kelantan
GUA MUSANG: The developer of the Kemubu Small Hydropower Project (PHK) and several quarry companies have committed to repairing roads damaged by overloaded lorries transporting materials to the project site in Mukim Kuala Stong, Dabong, Kuala Krai. Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) director Nik Soh Yaacoub confirmed that multiple routes, including D233 Jalan Kemubu-Bertam, D229 Jalan Kampung Biak, and D235 Jalan Bertam Lama-Jerek, suffered severe damage. Sections of the D233 route in Gua Musang were also affected. 'The developer will restore the roads to their original condition, addressing everything from the sub-base to the premix surface. 'The damage extends to the base structure due to lorries carrying heavy quarry rocks to the PHK site in Kemubu,' Nik Soh told Bernama today. A recent Bernama report on June 17 highlighted that around 5,000 road users faced risks of accidents and vehicle damage due to the deteriorated road conditions in Kampung Bertam Lama. Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, speaking in Kampung Bertam Lama, expressed hope that JKR's quality monitoring would ensure long-lasting repairs, even under the strain of overloaded construction lorries.

JKR: Developer, Quarry Companies To Repair Roads Damaged By Overloaded Lorries
GUA MUSANG, June 25 (Bernama) -- The developer of the Kemubu Small Hydropower Project (PHK), along with several quarry companies, have agreed to repair road damage caused by the movement of lorries carrying excessive loads to the project site in Mukim Kuala Stong, Dabong in Kuala Krai. The Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) director Nik Soh Yaacoub said that damage was detected on several main routes, including the D233 Jalan Kemubu-Bertam and D229 Jalan Kampung Biak routes in Kuala Krai, as well as the D235 Jalan Bertam Lama-Jerek route and part of the D233 route in the Gua Musang area. "The developer will repair the roads back to their original condition, involving the sub-base to the premix surface, to ensure the roads are restored. The roads in question have been damaged down to the base structure due to lorries carrying heavy loads of rocks from the quarry in Gua Musang to the PHK in Kemubu,´ he said to Bernama today.

RM2.5mil drainage project brings hope to 1,000 flood weary villagers in Kota Baru
KOTA BARU: A drainage upgrade project worth about RM2.5 million will help address a long-standing flood issue affecting more than 1,000 residents in Kampung Kota here, one of the villages adopted under the Kampung Angkat Madani programme. Kelantan Public Works Department director Nik Soh Nik Yaacoub said the two-phase project involved upgrading the drainage system in several villages, including Kampung Kota and Kampung Wakaf Sena. He said the first phase, which began in April, costs RM772,900 and spans 700m, from Kampung Kota to Kampung Gaung. "It is expected to be completed by mid-July. We hope it will resolve the issue of stagnant floodwaters which have long troubled villagers." Speaking after visiting the project in Kampung Kota today, Nik Soh said the second phase, which costs about RM1.7 million, involved regular maintenance and further infrastructure improvements. Deputy executive councillor for public works, infrastructure, water and rural development Saizol Ismail thanked the federal government for implementing the project. He said villagers in the area have endured floods for 20 years, primarily caused by damaged drainage structures. "We hope this project will be completed before the next monsoon season."
