Coronation Street legend nearly quit show over ITV decision

This forced him to consider hanging up his hat and dropping out of Corrie altogether. Simon Gregson considered leaving Coronation Street after being left 'gutted' by an ITV decision Recalling the dilemma, the Coronation Street star said: 'I was offered rallying with Seat." He added: "I was offered a few things. I had to meet with the boss of insurance for ITV, and he said: 'Absolutely hell no', and that was my possible career in racing gone. I was gutted, it was my lifelong dream.' The ITV actor remembered that he was envious, Kelvin Fletcher, who left rival soap opera Emmerdale to race cars. He said: 'And then of course, Kelvin from Emmerdale, he's racing McLaren, Bentley, Porsche." According to The Mirror, he added: 'I was like, 'that was my dream!' He said 'Get lost' and left the show. Which is what I should have done, or maybe I shouldn't, or I wouldn't be here now.' 'The reason I went for the job - because I wasn't an actor, I wanted to join the RAF originally - the reason I went for it was for money,' he explained. He added on the motoring podcast Fuelling Around: 'Because I'd seen a Ford Escort Mexico, in bright orange and I was like 'I want that car, so I'll go for that job'.'

Leek indoor market reopens after 'incredible' refurbishment

An indoor market has reopened after undergoing a £3.4m refurbishment which aims to secure its future in the centre of a Staffordshire town for years to moved out of Leek Indoor Markets in March as work got under way to transform the site, which includes the Butter Market and Trestle Moorlands District Council said the project was a "once-in-a-generation opportunity" to breathe new life into the Strictly and Emmerdale star, Kelvin Fletcher, who attended the official opening, said the new look was "incredible". As part of the work, the Victorian character of the Butter Market shop fronts has been restored, with wi-fi and CCTV systems installed. Changes to the Trestle Market have seen a new entrance as well as the creation of an events space and food and drink outlets. Mr Fletcher, who now run Fletcher's Family Farm near Wincle, said: "It's been great today - the market looks fantastic. "This refresh looks incredible, I think the vendors should count themselves very lucky to be in such a wonderful setting here. "This market is synonymous with Leek town. It's been here for many generations and hopefully with this new refurb, long may it continue."Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, cabinet member for leisure and tourism at the council, said he wanted the area to continue its "long history" of hosting events. "We've got to remember that this market is part of the whole economic centre of the town," he said."We've appointed an independent market management which has a specialty in events management to make sure we continue that tradition."
