4-star OT Kelvin Obot announces commitment between Oregon Ducks, Utah Utes

The Oregon Ducks have been hot on the recruiting trail when it comes to offensive linemen of late. They flipped the commitment of Koloi Keli from the California Golden Bears on Monday and expect four-star Tommy Tofi and five-star Immanuel Iheanacho to join the fold in the near future. With those wins, though, come expected losses. Advertisement On Tuesday, four-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot announced his commitment to Utah, choosing the Utes over the Oregon Ducks, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Michigan Wolverines. Obot has very different ratings on 247Sports and On3. The former sees him as the No. 10 OT and No. 139 player in the 2026 class. On3 rates Obot as the No. 3 OT and No. 9 overall player in the class. While it's fair for the Ducks to be frustrated by not landing Obot's commitment for the 2026 class, the offensive line room has been building out quickly. In addition to Keli and, likely, Tofi, the Ducks are favored to land Iheanacho, the No. 8 player in the class. Iheanacho is scheduled to announce his commitment on Aug. 5, but there is a belief he could move that date to July 4. Kelvin Obot graded a ‘game-changer' and instant impact player as Utes' headliner commit

Utah Utes assistant head coach and offensive line coach Jim Harding talks with white team players during the Utah Utes' 22 Forever spring game at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on Saturday, April 19, 2025. | Brice Tucker, Deseret News The University of Utah football program landed its highest-rated commit of the 2026 recruiting class on Tuesday when offensive tackle Kelvin Obot announced his pledge to the Utes. Obot is a 6-foot-5, 265-pound talent out of Fruitland High in Idaho, where he plays under former Utah offensive tackle Jordan Gross, who was a first-round NFL draft pick who played for more than a decade with the Carolina Panthers. Advertisement Obot is a four-star recruit and rated the No. 1 prospect out of Idaho in the 2026 class, No. 9 among offensive tackles and the No. 131 recruit nationally in 247 Sports' composite ratings, which factor in ratings from 247 Sports, Rivals, On3 and ESPN. His 0.9406 composite score in 247 Sports' formula makes him the ninth-highest rated recruit in Utah history, per their metrics. On3 ranks Obot as the No. 9 overall player — and No. 3 offensive tackle — in the 2026 class. 'Athletic offensive tackle that has proven to be no match for Gem State-based competition over the years. Displays favorable reaction skills and body control as he's light on his feet and frequently in balance,' 247 Sports' Andrew Ivins wrote in evaluating Obot. Advertisement 'Quick out of a two-point stance as he tries to establish a wide base in his run sets. Patient in pass protection as he gains depth before engaging targets with well-timed strikes.' Could Obot be an immediate contributor when he gets on campus next year? CBS Sports, which teams with 247 Sports in its recruitment coverage efforts, has been grading major commitments as they happen, and has included Obot. CBS Sports developed a Commitment Impact Score, which rates a recruit from 1-10 on their projected impact on a program based on three factors — roster boost (50% of the final score), momentum hit and program fit/narrative. Advertisement In that formula, Obot was rated a 10 out of 10, or a 'game-changer.' 'Forget trying to buy premium offensive tackles in the transfer portal. Utah is one of the few programs that seems committed to developing them in-house,' Ivins wrote for CBS Sports, in scoring Obot's commitment to Utah. The Utes have a strong history of developing pro-caliber offensive tackles under offensive line coach Jim Harding. That's an indicator Obot could be the next one to cash in on the talent he brings to Salt Lake City. Four of Utah's top 10 all-time commits, according to 247 Sports, are offensive tackles. That includes Garett Bolles, who was a first-round draft pick in 2017 and has spent his entire career with the Denver Broncos, where he was a starter since Day 1. He was had a 0.9462 composite score, per 247 Sports, and is rated the eighth-best recruit in Utah history, just ahead of Obot. Advertisement Obot's addition to next year's class also is expected to come at a good time, as the Utes' starting offensive tackles this year, Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu, are both being projected as high-round NFL draft picks for 2026 — and perhaps first-rounders. Fano and Lomu were both a part of the Utes' 2023 class and had composite scores of 0.9530 and 0.9472, respectively, as recruits, placing Fano as the sixth-highest rated recruit in Utah history and Lomu seventh. 'With starting corner-protectors Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu expected to be Day 1 or Day 2 selections in next year's NFL Draft, the Utes pulled off a major heist Tuesday, beating out Oregon, Michigan and Nebraska for Kelvin Obot,' Ivins wrote. 'Currently pegged as the nation's No. 10 offensive tackle, Obot is an athletic big man with elite body control that can mirror twitched-up pass rushers. He's far from a complete product, and will see a major step up in competition when he leaves Idaho, but he's one of the few tackles in the class that looks like he has a chance to man the left side of the line. That's big for Utah, which wasn't afraid to play both Fano and Lomu as youngsters.'

Nebraska makes cut for four-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot Class of 2026 four-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot announced his top four schools on Thursday, and Nebraska football made the cut. He is then heading to Utah on May 30-June 1, Michigan June 13-15, and Oregon June 20-22. Obot is one of the premier offensive tackles in the 2026 class. According to Rivals' rankings, he is the 204th overall player nationally and the 22nd overall player at his position. This would be a major get for the 2026 recruiting class. The Huskers currently have four commitments, with the class itself ranking 57th overall nationally per Rivals rankings. Furthermore, Obot would give them a cornerstone player for the class on the offensive line. The Huskers will certainly have their work cut out for them in this recruitment. Michigan football in top 4 for 5-star OT Kelvin Obot—can they land the 2026 star?

Michigan football in top 4 for 5-star OT Kelvin Obot—can they land the 2026 star? Michigan football recruiting, as it is most years around this time of year, has been relatively slow and mundane in terms of generating commitments. The Wolverines have just five commitments thus far in the 2026 class, but the team almost always picks things up in June and July following the official visit slate. Regardless, that doesn't mean that all is quiet behind the scenes. Coming off a slew of spring visitors, the maize and blue have momentum for most of their top targets that they've had all along. Now that top-tier prospects are whittling down their lists, Michigan football is making significant headway with some of the players it covets the most. Michigan makes the top four for a top target One such prospect that the Wolverines have long coveted is 2026 Fruitland (Idaho) five-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot. Hailing from the same state as former Michigan star tight end Colston Loveland, the Wolverines have proven that they can find elite talent on the fringes of the Pacific Northwest. On Thursday, Obot revealed his top four schools, and Michigan football made the cut. Rounding out his list, however, are Oregon, Utah, and Nebraska -- three schools that are regionally closer with some having solid momentum on the recruiting trail. Oregon has recruited very well, especially along the offensive line as of late. Considered to be the favorite for some time, the other two schools have made significant headway. Obot's last release was a top five, which included the aforementioned four programs, but he eliminated USC from contention. He also recently officially visited Michigan State, which has likewise been eliminated. Obot unofficially visited Ann Arbor for three days in late March and is expected to visit Michigan officially. How he ranks On3's proprietary rankings are highest on Obot, having him listed as a five-star and the No. 9 overall player, regardless of position. He is universally seen as a four-star, but ESPN has him the lowest -- yet still within its top 300 rankings. Here is how he ranks: 247Sports: No. 144 overall, No. 10 offensive tackle, No. 1 in Idaho No. 144 overall, No. 10 offensive tackle, No. 1 in Idaho On3: No. 9 overall, No. 3 OT, No. 1 in Idaho No. 9 overall, No. 3 OT, No. 1 in Idaho ESPN: No. 280 overall, No. 31 OT, No. 1 in Idaho No. 280 overall, No. 31 OT, No. 1 in Idaho Rivals : No. 204 overall, No. 22 OT : No. 204 overall, No. 22 OT 247Sports Composite: No. 131 overall, No. 9 OT, No. 1 in Idaho No. 131 overall, No. 9 OT, No. 1 in Idaho On3 Industry Ranking: No. 79 overall, No. 7 OT, No. 1 in Idaho Current commits At the moment, as previously mentioned, Michigan football has five pledges in the 2026 class, led by four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel, the former Florida State commit. Cornerback Brody Jennings and interior offensive lineman Bear McWhorter are also listed as four-stars according to the 247Sports Composite, while wide receiver Jaylen Pile and edge rusher Tariq Boney are both listed as three-stars. To see who the Wolverines are currently in contention for, click here. Though the maize and blue currently have five commits, expect that number to triple (or more) by the time mid-July rols around.
