Kembara Riuh Pesta Itu-Ini : Digital Caricaturist Proves Commercial Value

KOTA BHARU, June 20 (Bernama) -- Once underestimated for pursuing a degree in fine arts, Mohd Azizi Husein, 47, has proven that an arts qualification is not a barrier to success—in fact, it opens the door to various professional career opportunities, especially in today's digital era. The Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat native, known as GG, currently serves as a graphic designer at the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) Headquarters and has been active as a part-time digital caricaturist since 2010. 'I used to be mocked, with people saying I'd end up sketching by the roadside. But the truth is, arts graduates can serve in government sectors such as hospitals, courts, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), public universities, and now even in tech and artificial intelligence (AI),' he told Bernama at the Kembara RIUH Pesta Itu-Ini programme at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here today. A graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2000, Mohd Azizi said he shifted from manual to digital drawing in 2018 following JaPen's 'JaPen Kini Digital' initiative, which included the use of QR codes in official publications. He said digital caricatures were gaining popularity due to their simplicity, efficiency, minimal equipment requirements, and the ease with which mistakes could be corrected—while also offering unique commercial value. To attract the public, JaPen offers complimentary caricature drawings during its outreach programmes. 'Black-and-white sketches usually take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete, while coloured versions can take up to two hours,' he said. During a recent event in Lumut, Perak, he managed to complete 170 caricatures over three days. On average, he is able to draw more than 50 faces a day, depending on crowd response. Commercially, digital caricature prices start from as low as RM10 for black-and-white versions and RM30 for coloured versions per face.

Bernama, MYTV Bring Digital Media Closer To Public At Kembara Riuh Pesta Itu-Ini

KOTA BHARU, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) continues its strategic partnership with MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd through its participation in the three-day Kembara RIUH Pesta Itu-Ini programme at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here, which began yesterday. Bernama Corporate Affairs Division Branding Assistant Manager Suherman Anuar said the partnership was aimed at promoting both agencies' digital applications – the Bernama app and the MYTV Mana-Mana app – to the local community, while also introducing the Bernama TV channel available on the MYTV platform. 'This is the first time Bernama is taking part in the Kembara RIUH Pesta Itu-Ini in Kota Bharu, and we view it as a valuable opportunity to bring our news platform and digital broadcasts closer to the public,' he said when met at the event today. Suherman said MYTV is a free digital television broadcasting platform supervised by the Ministry of Communications and monitored by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as part of the analogue-to-digital broadcast transition initiative, which began in 2018. He said the collaboration was not limited to the event and had the potential to be expanded through various educational and media awareness activities in the future. Meanwhile, MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd marketing officer Muhammad Afiq Firdaus Radzlan said the collaboration with Bernama had opened up opportunities for both parties to plan and execute promotional activities more effectively. 'Our main objective is to reach out to consumers and introduce MYTV's free broadcasting services as well as available content such as Bernama TV and Bernama Radio,' he said. The event featured numerous interactive activities for visitors, including quizzes, trivia games and lucky draws offering prizes such as a free MYTV decoder set. One of the main crowd-pullers was the live news reading session at Bernama's mini studio, which attracted participants of all ages keen to try their hand at news presenting.

Kembara Pesta Riuh Brings Culture, Creativity And Govt Outreach To Kelantan

KOTA BHARU, June 19 (Bernama) -- The Kembara Pesta RIUH Itu-Ini festival, launched at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here, is part of the Communications Ministry's effort to bring public services closer to the people while celebrating local food, arts and culture. Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin said the event takes a fresh approach compared to the previous Kembara Riuh Keluarga Malaysia (KRKM) edition held in Ketereh in 2022. 'This time, the focus is on showcasing Kelantan's rich cultural identity, from traditional cuisine to batik and local crafts,' he told Bernama after visiting the national news agency's booth at the festival today. Running from today until Saturday, the three-day programme features six government agencies, more than 15 performances and is expected to draw around 30,000 visitors. It is open from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Nik Kamaruzaman said the festival blends food, entertainment, cultural showcases and community activities into an inclusive platform meant to benefit all walks of life. 'It highlights local food vendors, creative entrepreneurs, homegrown artists and micro-businesses, especially those from rural areas,' he said, adding that the goal is to expand the reach of the creative economy to underserved communities. After Kelantan, the Kembara RIUH Pesta Itu-Ini will head to Johor and Perak as part of the ministry's nationwide outreach. Nik Kamaruzaman also encouraged residents from across Kelantan, including districts like Pasir Puteh and Jeli, to take part in the festivities, which bring together multiple government and community partners. -- BERNAMA
