Coronation Street star signs new ITV contract ahead of Emmerdale crossover

A Coronation Street star has reportedly signed a new contract ahead of a planned crossover event. Claire Sweeney, known for her roles as Cassie Plummer on the ITV soap, has secured her future on the Cobbles. Sweeney has been part of the Coronation Street cast since 2023. It is rumoured she is looking to be part of the planned ITV soap crossover between Corrie and Emmerdale next year. A source told The Sun: 'Claire loves being on Corrie - it's a dream job, so she was delighted to sign a new deal. 'With the big Emmerdale crossover coming in 2026, there's also a hope that she'll be in that too. 'It's a great opportunity to be part of soap history, so who wouldn't want to be involved?' In her time on the show so far, Claire's villainous character has poisoned Ken Barlow (William Roache) and slept with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson). Emmerdale and Coronation Street revealed the hour-long crossover episode earlier this month. The special episode will see characters from the Yorkshire town and Weatherfield come together for the first time ever. Discussing the Emmerdale and Coronation Street episode, ITV said: "The distinctive worlds of Emmerdale and Coronation Street will merge for one night only in a 'mash-up' of our two favourite communities. "The producers, scriptwriters and production teams have conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes, but with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire. "The episode will be self-contained, but the consequences of the high-stakes drama will have repercussions for both communities and see them linked forever as familiar faces depart and exciting new characters arrive into both soaps." Coronation Street star exits show in sensational storyline after 11 years on the soap

CORONATION Street star Daniel Brocklebank is to leave the show after 11 years on the soap. The actor - who plays vicar Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap - will leave next year in a sensational issues-based storyline. 2 2 It's understood his departure was one solely made by Corrie bosses as 'a story-based decision.' Confirming his exit, Daniel said: "I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. "I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work. "I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds." Actor Daniel joined the soap in 2014 as Sean Tully's new love interest and quickly established himself as a supportive character on the cobbles. However not long after Billy became a more standard Corrie character having affairs, being revealed as the unwitting killer of Ken Barlow's daughter Susan and then descending into heroin addiction. Controversial scenes saw Billy take the drug while in church - scenes which actor Daniel admitted even his own mother couldn't bare to watch. He told The Sun at the time: "Of course there are some people have been horrified by it, no less than my mother. "She was disgusted by the whole thing, but I think it's an important story to tell." He added: "That people functioning, well-adjusted, moralistic people can also fall to the darker elements that the world can offer." However recently the actor has become more known for posting bizarre conspiracy theories on social media. Fans became concerned at his posts in recent times railing at the 'mainstream media' and suggesting the Government has been controlling the weather for unexplained reasons. His verified X - formerly known as Twitter - account has now disappeared. Before joining Corrie, Daniel had a regular role on Emmerdale as Ivan Jones as well as roles in films Shakespeare in Love and The Hole.

10 character interactions that need to happen in Corrie and Emmerdale crossover

ITV soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set to make history next year when they air the first soap crossover episode. The special episode will mark the beginning of a new scheduling pattern for the shows, and will see characters from both Weatherfield and Emmerdale interact. Of course, this news immediately got our brains whirring with possibilities as we debated the countless scenarios that could be set to play out. So, without further ado, here are the characters the Metro Soaps team are desperate to see interact. As two of the longest serving soap stars, it would be a missed opportunity not to have Ken Barlow (William Roache) and Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) discuss the history of their communities. Throw in Corrie's Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and Emmerdale's Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) and Jimmy King (Nick Miles), and you have the recipe for a delicious soap scene packed with nostalgia. Soaps often cover hard-hitting and topical issues, so it is unsurprising that their characters have similar experiences. Two such characters are Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) and Ross Barton (Michael Parr), who both fell victim to acid attacks in terrifying scenes. Having the two men candidly discuss their experience would be a moving and important scene, which could serve to further highlight the impact of such a violent crime. In a battle of scheming soap murderesses, we're not sure who would come out on top between Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), but one thing is for certain: We're desperate to find out! We're sure there'd be cutting remarks aplenty and more than one punch thrown, and though we certainly don't condone violence, we'd be totally here for it. Real-life twins Isabella and William Flanagan are Corrie icons, having played Hope Stape and Joseph Brown respectively since their early childhoods. Throw into the mix their older sister Amelia Flanagan, aka Emmerdale's April Windsor, and we'd get the whole clan together on screen! Surely a moment to remember for their proud parents. We can only imagine the level of chaos that putting Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) in a room with Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) would bring – not to mention the noise complaints! These two icons would certainly bring the entertainment, and we need to see them whack out a karaoke duet immediately. Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) and Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) have a lot in common, which could either be a match made in heaven or a complete disaster. Either way, excellent television. These two political figures would no doubt put the world to rights with a lengthy debate and plenty of gossip. The topics that could come up in a conversation between Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) and Sam Dingle (James Hooton) truly know no bounds, which makes them the perfect pair to sit together and enjoy a pint. We just know that by the end of the night Sam would have Kirk drinking out of the welly! Leanne Battersby actress Jane Danson has thrown out her own suggestion of pairing Leanne with Emmerdale bad boy Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). New romance on the cards, anyone? They'd certainly give each other a run for their money, and Leanne is currently single… We can definitely get behind this! It's not just the humans that we want to see mixing. We're huge fans of local pooches Freddie and Piper, and a little scene between the two of them would be the icing on top of the cake. More Trending What's better than one adorable puppy? Two adorable puppies. We just need any Corrie character to go up to John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) and tell him he looks really familiar. This could also apply to Kim Tate (Claire King) and Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson). When asked how long his colleague had been on Coronation Street, he added: '65 years.' The former Corrie star revealed last week he was involved in a terrifying near-fatal car accident. He said: 'I had a big car accident on M62. Yeah, just getting onto the slip road at M62, I f**king skidded, spinned, and went through a barrier, and I was hanging over a bridge on the M62. 'The car was a f**king Italian job.' He made a full recovery but his fellow house mates appeared very shocked by the car accident revelation. Angellica was the first of three celebrities to be kicked out on Triple Tuesday - followed by TOWIE's Ella Rae Wise and EastEnders actress Patsy.
