NFL free agency rumors: Saints checked in on four-time Pro Bowl RB
NFL free agency rumors: Saints checked in on four-time Pro Bowl RB Former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is slated to sign with the Houston Texans, pending a physical scheduled during his visit on Monday per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. If all goes well, the former All-Pro back will join fellow Pro Bowler Joe Mixon, forming what could become one of the NFL's top backfield duos. While Houston had long been considered the frontrunner to land Chubb, the New Orleans Saints were reportedly among the teams expressing interest in his services. Chubb, still working his way back from a devastating knee injury suffered in 2023, brings intriguing upside as a potential No. 2 option — making New Orleans' interest understandable. Since parting ways with Latavius Murray after the 2020 season, the Saints have struggled to find a consistent complementary back to pair with Alvin Kamara. Over the last few years, they've attempted to fill that void by signing Jamaal Williams in 2023 free agency and drafting Kendre Miller in the third round that same offseason. Unfortunately, neither has delivered as hoped — Williams was a disappointment production-wise, and while Miller has flashed potential, he's struggled to stay healthy. As the 2025 season approaches, New Orleans should remain aggressive in seeking stability at the position. Currently, the depth behind Kamara includes Miller, former LSU standout Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and sixth-round rookie Devin Neal — a trio with plenty to prove heading into training camp. If all goes well, the best-case scenario for New Orleans is a healthy and productive season from Kendre Miller, whose explosiveness with the ball is evident when he's on the field. Still, expect the Saints to keep their eyes open for additional backfield help all the way through to Week 1.

One New Orleans Saints running back has picked a new jersey number for the 2025 season
One New Orleans Saints running back has picked a new jersey number for the 2025 season Looks like there will be a slight change in the New Orleans Saints running back room this upcoming season. One that is of small significance but definitely adds some aura to the backfield. Third-year running back Kendre Miller looks to have switched to the No. 5 jersey, most recently worn by safety Will Harris who left for the Washington Commanders this offseason. This switch immediately brings to mind Reggie Bush's rookie year where he sported his infamous collegiate digit at Saints training camp. However, the No. 5 Bush jersey never actually saw the field due to the previous league rules. Like Miller, he ended up using the No. 25 jersey instead. With recent rule changes allowing skill players to sport single-digit numbers, Miller will be the first Saints running back to do so. Other notable players that wore the No. 5 jersey for the Saints include wide receiver Jarvis Landry, punter Blake Gilikin, linebacker Kwon Alexander and Super Bowl-winning kicker Garrett Hartley. After a disappointing first two seasons for Miller, hopefully this jersey number change can spark a fresh start for the young back. Injuries have limited him to just 80 rushing attempts through 14 games in his first two years in the NFL. But he's been an effective runner, picking up 304 yards on those carries while running for 21 first downs and a pair of touchdowns. He's also caught 15 passes for another 150 yards and 7 more first downs. He's flashed big-play ability but hasn't been able to stay on the field long enough to maximize it. Maybe that changes in Year 3 with a new number on his chest.
