Major update after alleged thief stole $7,000 worth of right-footed shoes
A man has been charged after allegedly stealing dozens of right-footed shoes from a store earlier this month. The unusual theft occurred in Kenmore, Brisbane, at 7.30pm on July 7, when a man allegedly walked inside a shopping centre on Brookfield Road and stole 53 individual shoes. The shoes, from Shoe Fashions Kenmore, had been displayed on tables in the middle of a walkway in the centre. Following an investigation by Queensland Police, a 49-year-old Mount Gravatt East man was arrested at Broadbeach on July 17. The man appeared to have been living inside a tent with his dog when he was arrested. He has since been charged with one count of entering a premises and committing an indictable offence. The man was due to face court on Friday. Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Blyth said the unusual nature of the crime played a key role in identifying the alleged offender. 'It's not every day you come across a case involving the theft of 53 right shoes,' he said. 'While the incident may be a bit unique and different in nature, it's a reminder that our officers take all reports seriously. 'Thanks to good CCTV coverage and assistance from the public, we were able to locate the shoes and return them to the business.' Police confirmed all of the stolen shoes have since been recovered and returned. Speaking to the Courier Mail, Shoe Fashions Kenmore owner Tamara Shorrock said at full price, the man took $7,000 worth of shoes. 'Someone had taken all our sale boots off the sale table. So there were 53 right-footed boots, and they took every single one of them,' Ms Shorrock said. 'It was covered up at the time as well. So we covered it up overnight. And look, we've been doing it for 29 years, and not one boot or shoe has been stolen over the years. 'So that's sort of why we leave the table where it is. It's never been an issue. 'I came into work on Tuesday to discover that they were all gone.' The footage of the theft shows the man calmly walking into the mall before he wandered around, seemingly listening to music through headphones plugged into his phone. The man then walked up to the middle of a common area where there were three separate stalls piled with display items that had been covered up for the night. He carefully unwrapped one stall's display and piled it into his suitcase, appearing to deliberately take his time so as not to draw attention to himself.

‘Bizarre': Shoe thief's head-scratching spree
CCTV has captured the bizarre moment a thief steals 53 right shoes from a Brisbane shopping centre. The incident occurred at Kenmore shopping centre about 7.35pm on Monday evening and shows a man with a trolley filled with empty suitcases stop at the closed shoe table, take off the cover and load the exclusively right shoes into the baggage. The man is wearing headphones and appears to gesture to CCTV cameras before simply walking out of the shopping centre. Store owner Tamara Shorrock said corresponding left shoes were securely stored in the back and 'it's just never really occurred to us that someone would actually want to steal a right boot'. 'It's very bizarre. We're still scratching our heads over that one,' she said. 'Clearly, they are not pairs, it's pretty obvious that they're all right feet, but maybe he was in a rush and just thought, 'OK, I'll grab them'. 'Or maybe he has friends that only require the right shoe.' Ms Shorrock discovered the theft when she arrived at work on Tuesday morning. 'I was on the phone to a friend, I was like 'I think we've been robbed'.' 'Just let me check out the back. Checked out the back, checked around the shelves, and they were just gone.' The theft has left Ms Shorrock with an open question on the remaining unsellable left shoes. The stolen items had been discounted to half price, bringing the retail value of the missing stock to $7000. 'That was the sale price, so $14,000 if they weren't on sale,' she said. Despite the loss, Ms Shorrock is hopeful the thief will return the shoes in a similarly bizarre fashion. 'I'm just holding on there with dear hope. I'm going to turn up to work tomorrow and here are all the boots,' she said. 'Cover yourself up, we don't need to know. 'We have lots of customers wanting boots, we have had a cool change in the weather. It would be nice to be able to sell them.' Police are investigating the incident and encourage anyone who may have seen the man or have relevant information to contact them.

Hot-footed thief steals dozens of right boots from Brisbane boutique
A small Brisbane shoe store is trying to solve a peculiar mystery after 52 boots were stolen — but only the right pair of each one. The stock was cleared from a sale table outside family-run boutique Shoe Fashions in Kenmore. CCTV footage shows the hot-footed thief packing the shoes in suitcases after closing time. He makes no attempt to hide his identity, leaving his face uncovered. Shop owner Tamara Shorrock said she doesn't think the thief was mistaken. "It's common practice for a shoe shop to put just the right foot on display. It looks tidier, it's easier for us, and we don't put pairs out because of theft most of the time," she said. "One would think it would be common sense." The robbery has left the store out of pocket around $6,000 — a loss calculated based on sale price. One perplexed shopper described it as "heartbreaking". "I hope they return it [and] realise it doesn't make any sense.' Another questioned: "What's he going to do with them anyway?" Shorrock said it's not too late to make things right. "Please bring the boots back," she pleaded. "Drop them under the table, put a face mask on, a hat ... Go incognito, we don't care. "Bring them back, no questions asked." Queensland Police are investigating and have appealed for public assistance.
