A student saviour during the week, this Bentley canteen really shines on weekends
Kenneth Lim, one of Chomp Chomp's founders, is on the other side of the cabinet and putting the final touches on the display. The Singaporean-born, former marketer turned self-taught chef slides a tray of mashed potato into position. He gives a small jug of gravy a few final stirs. In lieu of some kind of bell ringing, the swarms of youngsters wearing hoodies and backpacks swarming into the room signals the start of recess. The Chomp Chomp line and Lim both jolt into action. They point at things. He packs them into cardboard takeaway containers feathered with rice, just as the legions of aunties and uncles of Singapore's economy rice stalls do, day in and day out. The golden fried pork cutlet, unsurprisingly, is a popular choice. Like that potato and mash, this Singaporean 'western' dish was invented during Singapore's colonial era by Hainanese cooks who discovered that coating pork in a layer of crushed cream crackers yielded max crunch. The gold of the ayam Kapitan or 'captain's chicken', however, is derived from turmeric rather than a deep fryer. Like the pork, this rich, dry curry sharp with lemongrass is also a product of cultural exchange: in this instance, the intermarriage between Chinese seafarers and local Malays that laid the foundations for Peranakan cuisine.

Tata Elxsi, Infineon partner to develop application-ready EV solutions
Tata Elxsi and Infineon Technologies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop electric vehicle (EV) systems for the Indian market. The companies will collaborate to develop high-voltage inverters, battery management systems, onboard chargers, and thermal management systems for India's electric two-wheeler, three-wheeler, passenger vehicle, and commercial vehicle segments. The partnership also plans to explore electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL), energy, and off-highway applications. Tata Elxsi, a Tata Group company, will contribute design and integration capabilities, while Infineon will provide early access to semiconductor technologies such as silicon carbide-based components, microcontrollers, and integrated circuits. The partnership aims to combine system integration capabilities and semiconductor technologies to create safe automotive systems. It also addresses requirements such as Automotive Safety Integrity Level D, which is the highest safety classification under ISO 26262. Tata Elxsi provides solutions in connected mobility, network transformation, and medical engineering. Overall EV sales in India grew by 25–30 per cent in 2024, including a 28 per cent increase in electric two and three wheeler sales. 'Currently, several of our EV solutions are already built on Infineon SoCs and components. This MoU further strengthens our partnership by giving us a clearer scope and tighter system-level alignment,' said Nambi Ganesh, Head of Automotive, Tata Elxsi. 'By combining Tata Elxsi's design and integration expertise with our advanced semiconductor solutions, we are not only enhancing the development of ready-to-deploy EV systems but also ensuring that they meet the highest safety and performance standards,' said Kenneth Lim, Senior Vice President, Automotive, Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific. In April, Tata Elxsi had entered into a multi-year agreement worth €50 million with a Europe-based automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM). As part of the agreement, Tata Elxsi will support platform and application development in the areas of software-defined vehicles (SDV), electrification, and body and chassis systems.

Tata Elxsi and Infineon join forces to boost EV innovation in India
In a major step towards advancing India's electric vehicle (EV) landscape, Tata Elxsi and Infineon Technologies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop ready-to-deploy EV systems tailored for Indian roads. The partnership aims to address the country's growing need for scalable and safe electrification solutions across mobility segments including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial fleets. The announcement was made via a press release dated June 18, 2025, where both companies underscored their commitment to accelerating EV adoption in line with India's national electrification targets. 'This MoU further strengthens our partnership by giving us a clearer scope and tighter system-level alignment, enabling shorter turnaround times to address Indian market requirements,' said Nambi Ganesh, Head of Automotive at Tata Elxsi. He added, 'As EV adoption scales, our focus remains on delivering production-ready, automotive standards-compliant platforms and solutions.' Infineon, a global leader in semiconductor solutions, will bring its advanced technologies such as silicon carbide (SiC) components, microcontrollers, and ICs to the collaboration. These will be integrated with Tata Elxsi's design, system integration, and validation capabilities to develop high-voltage inverters, scalable battery management systems, bi-directional onboard chargers, and thermal management systems. Kenneth Lim, Senior Vice President – Automotive at Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership: 'By combining Tata Elxsi's design and integration expertise with our advanced semiconductor solutions, we are not only enhancing the development of ready-to-deploy EV systems but also ensuring that they meet the highest safety and performance standards.' Importantly, the systems will address critical compliance requirements such as ASIL-D certification as per ISO 26262, ensuring functional safety for road vehicles. This initiative also aligns with NITI Aayog's ambitious electrification goals, which include 80% electrification of two- and three-wheelers and 70% of commercial vehicles by 2030. As the EV sector in India grows at a rate of 25–30% annually, this collaboration promises to create impactful, localized solutions that can be rapidly deployed and scaled across the country.
