'Grandest festival yet' in heart of Elgar country
This year's Elgar Festival in Worcestershire will be the "grandest and most fun party yet", its artistic director has annual event, celebrating the life and music of the Worcestershire-born composer, starts on Saturday and runs until 1 is arguably most famous for his cello concerto and Enigma Variations, including the Pomp and Circumstance was born near Worcester on 2 June 1857 and the festival traditionally culminates with a gala concert on the weekend closest to his birthday. This year's festival will also celebrate the work of Ian Venables, who artistic director Kenneth Woods described as "Worcester's second-greatest composer".Venables is 70 in July and his work, which includes art songs and chamber music, is expected to feature in a number of performances across the UK and said it was an "exciting time" and that he planned a number of activities this week working with "young singers and talented composers who will be the next generation of aspiring musicians". Like Elgar, some of Venables' work has been inspired by the countryside around Worcestershire, including his Song of the Severn. "The very first work I composed when I moved to Worcester in 1986 was Pastorale for violin and piano," he said. "It was inspired by one of my earliest excursions into the Worcestershire countryside to visit Elgar's grave and climb the Malvern Hills." Since it began in 2018, the festival "has doubled in size and scale", organisers promises to bring together "world-class professional musicians and artists alongside local choirs and ensembles".Highlights this year include the Gala Concert by the English Symphony Orchestra and the Elgar Festival Chorus at Worcester Cathedral on 31 the festival, The Guildhall in Worcester will have an exhibition of Elgar memorabilia on loan from private event will also include orchestral performances, recitals, choral events and other activities. Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings music to enchant Gloucestershire
THE English Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert with a fantasy theme in Cheltenham. The orchestra, which was founded in 1980, will perform at the Cheltenham Town Hall on Friday, May 23. The concert, which will begin at 7.30pm, is called Wizards, Witches and Warriors. The programme will include music from Game of Thrones, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings, Firebird Suite and the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Kenneth Woods, the English Symphony Orchestra's artistic director and principal conductor, said: "We are so pleased to be able to present this concert in the beautiful surroundings of Cheltenham Town Hall; combining the ethereal realms of video games to the epic landscapes of cinema, this concert celebrates the power of music to craft worlds, evoke heroes and conjure dragons, featuring iconic scores from Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and legendary video game series like World of Warcraft." Tickets at £29.50 and concessions are available at the Cheltenham Town Hall website.

Personalized meals made healthy and flavorful in the Basin
MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Preparing healthy meals to eat throughout the week can be time-consuming and tiresome, but one local business in the Basin has the community covered. 'You got to bring in calories to be able to support your life and your activity on the day-to-day basis, and I think that's what nutrition does, is that it balances out all the work that you do, all the hard work in the gym all the hard work you do throughout the day to make sure that your body is fueled but its not storing those extra calories in there,' said Kenneth Woods, with Live Great Nutrition, in Midland. Kenneth also said, having the proper foods can completely change a journey to health. 'What I found through nutrition is that its not neccessarily eating a minimum, its eating enough to sustain,' Woods said. 'That's what we really focus on is making sure that you get quality foods in without overeating. The thing that I love about my meal prep is that we take your favorite foods and we just basically make the healthy so like we still have pastas we still have rice's, we still use dairy, but we just kind of change it around. So, instead of getting excess number of empty calories you're getting nutrition from the calories that you are eating, so it makes eating a little bit more fun.' Woods said they customize the meals for the clients and make sure that every meal is full of nutrition and flavor. 'We focus on flavor first and then we make sure that the notional value matches that flavor,' he said. 'A lot of our meals are more heavily focused on the proteins, so that you're getting in a lot of nutrients your not taking in a lot of calories, and then we try to add in that flavor with the extra calories. Your carbohydrates might be a little bit lower, your fats might be in there a little bit, but we really focus on that protein first, so that your still getting that nutrition.' Woods said they only cook to order, and release a menu for clients every Wednesday. Every week there are six different items clients can choose from. Meals are delivered on Sundays at no extra cost.
