Malaysia's Agri-food Sector Secures International Deals Worth RM17 Million

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the agreements, signed with partners from Thailand and the United States, reflect the growing international confidence in the quality and competitiveness of Malaysian products. "These agreements with partners from Thailand and the United States are not just business transactions - they are a testament to the world's growing confidence in Malaysian products. 'Our entrepreneurs have proven that, with the right support, they can compete and excel on the global stage," he said after officiating the Malaysian Pavilion here on Friday. Mohamad on a four-day working visit to Thailand said the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry has been actively supporting local entrepreneurs through strategic initiatives, ensuring they meet global standards while maintaining the unique quality and authenticity of Malaysian products. "Our vision is clear: we want Malaysian products to become household names worldwide. With the dedication of our farmers, food producers, and government agencies, I am confident that we will see even greater achievements in the years to come," he added. Mohamad also invited international buyers to explore Malaysia's diverse range of high-quality food products showcased at the pavilion. He said the strong performance at THAIFEX-Anuga Asia 2025 underscores Malaysia's growing influence in the global food and beverage arena.

Thai Government Spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap said Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra signed the 'Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future' during a ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Monday. 'This aligns with Thailand's priorities, such as bolstering safety and security, workforce development, healthcare promotion, connectivity enhancement, sustainable infrastructure development, and climate change adaptation. 'These initiatives are consistent with the Thai government's ongoing policies and commitments,' he said in a statement here on Monday. Jirayu said ACV 2045, together with its strategic plans, will be consolidated into a comprehensive document titled 'ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future.' He further elaborated that the vision addresses key areas, including political and security cooperation, economic advancement, socio-cultural initiatives, connectivity, and institutional capacity-building, with the aim of creating a strong, innovative, dynamic, and people-centred ASEAN Community. ACV 2045, a pivotal document shaping ASEAN's trajectory over the next 20 years, was officially unveiled on Monday following its endorsement by regional leaders attending the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. The ASEAN Community Vision 2045 will replace the ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together document, adopted in 2015, which guided the development of the ASEAN Community over the past decade.

Malaysia, Thailand Collaborate To Improve Golok River Mouth

Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the river, which forms a natural border between Malaysia and Thailand, has long been prone to flooding, severely affecting local communities. bootstrap slideshow 'Mitigating floods at the Sungai Golok estuary necessitates a blend of engineering solutions, environmental management, and policy measures to address sedimentation, regulate water flow, and reduce flood risks,' he said. To tackle these challenges, he said the Malaysian government has implemented comprehensive initiatives as part of the Cross-Border Collaboration between Malaysia and Thailand. Fadillah, who is also the Minister for Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said this during a courtesy call on Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong at the Government House on Friday, held in conjunction with his three-day working visit to Thailand. He said the agreements between the governments of Malaysia and Thailand on the Golok River Mouth Improvement Project have been in place since 1997 through the Joint Evaluation Team (JET), the Joint Technical Working Group (JTWG), and the Joint Steering Committee (JSC). 'To mitigate the impact and risks of flooding during the monsoon season, Malaysia plans to conduct dredging at the Sungai Golok estuary and construct a river dyke or groyne by the end of 2025, subject to approval of the JTWG and the Thai government,' he said. He also said both countries agreed during the 40th JTWG meeting to continue discussions in the upcoming JET and JTWG meetings, with updates to be presented at the next JSC meeting later this year.

Aaron-Soh, fresh from their victory at the Badminton Asia Championships in China in March, came from a set down to defeat Denmark's world Number 75 pair, William Kryger Boe-Christian Faust Kjaer, with a 20-22, 21-17, 21-12 triumph in a gruelling one-hour battle. The Malaysians earned US$37,525 (RM161,130), while the Danish runners-up took home US$18,050 (RM77,500). Soh praised the Danes for their strong performance, saying, "They gave us a very good fight, especially in the first and second games. "I think it was our mental strength, how we trusted each other and communicated on court, especially towards the end of the second game, that helped us regain confidence to push through. "In the final game, we built a solid lead, which gave us the mental strength to seal the win," he told Bernama after the match at Nimibutr Stadium here. Aaron-Soh's triumph capped a memorable day for Malaysian doubles pairs, with Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah claiming the women's doubles crown earlier. Aaron credited their new coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi, for providing invaluable advice after they lost the first set, which boosted their confidence to deliver strong performances in the second and final sets.

Thinaah, as they knocked out China's Chen Qing Chen-Wang Yi Lyu in the quarter-finals of the Thailand Open 2025 at the Nimibutr Stadium today. The world number four pair needed only 34 minutes to beat Qing Chen-Yi Lyu 21-14, 21-11. bootstrap slideshow Thinaah said they had discussed extensively with their coaches yesterday to prepare for today's match against the Chinese pair. "We are happy that our game plan worked well today. And yes, the belief is always there that we can go all the way to win the tournament," she told Bernama after the match. The Malaysians were in total control, needing just 17 minutes to clinch the first game. They again delivered a commanding performance in the second game, leading throughout to seal a 21-11 victory. Pearly-Thinaah will next face the winners of the match between Rui Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara of Japan and Meilysa Trias Puspitasari-Rachel Allessya Rose of Indonesia, who are scheduled to play later today. Pearly said they are focusing on improving their gameplay rather than preparing specifically for their semi-final opponents. "We want to maintain this positive momentum and discuss with our coaches to prepare for the next game. The main focus is to concentrate on every point and every match we play," she said.
