We've reached 47 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 47 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction.
No. 47
Who's wearing it now: No one
Who wore it best: CB Kent McCloughan
McCloughan was selected twice in the 1965 NFL Draft -- first by Washington and the next by Houston. And played for neither team. The former Nebraska star would play his entire six-year NFL career with the Raiders. In that timw he was twice a first team All Pro and was a starting cornerback for the Raiders in Super Bowl II.
Honorable Mention: RB Tyrone Wheatley
For many Raiders fans, the number 47 is known for being worn by Tyrone Wheatley. A former first round pick by the Giants, he never lived up to his draft expectations in New York. The Raiders picked him off the scrap heap in 1999 and he was a big part of their rushing attack during their successful seasons of the early 2000s. Wheatley's biggest season was 2000 when he rushed for 1046 yards and nine touchdowns. For the following two seasons he was the thunder to Charlie Garner's lightning.
