Sweet dog dragged from car in ‘horrific' abuse. Now fighter gets second chance
A sweetheart of a dog managed to survive a terrifying case of extreme neglect and is now on the mend, an animal shelter in Louisville says. Iris was the victim of abuse that the Kentucky Humane Society said no dog ever should have to go through. The Facebook post contains graphic images and details of animal neglect. The shelter would like readers to know that Iris is currently safe and in 'loving' hands. 'This is Iris. She arrived at our Sam Swope Pet Treatment and Lifesaving Center earlier this week, and our hearts have broken for her ever since,' the shelter said in the May 30 post. 'Her injuries are nothing short of horrific. Witnesses say they saw Iris being dragged from a car on a busy road on Monday. She was found by a riverbank near death, the skin on her feet and legs completely removed. Her stomach and chest are covered in awful road rash. Her injuries indicate that Iris attempted to stand up and stop herself from being pulled further down the road.' Thanks to the witnesses, the shelter was able to get Iris the care she needed. 'Iris's abuse resulted in horrendous degloving injuries on all four legs. We immediately gave her strong pain medication and antibiotics in hopes of keeping her already critical condition from worsening, before tearfully cleaning her wounds,' the shelter said. The shelter said Iris had muscles and tendons exposed, and her paw pads were 'torn off.' Shelter workers also covered her paws and legs to avoid infection. 'Though her healing will be touch-and-go for quite some time, Iris is now safe and comfortable, and that's what matters most,' the shelter said. Despite the abuse, Iris hasn't lost her loving nature and understands that those around her are set on giving her the medical attention and the human warmness she deserves. 'What Iris endured is unbelievable. Somehow, despite it all, she's nothing but kind and trusting towards our staff as if she knows we're here to help,' the shelter noted. Norah Martin: The KY Teen Making Waves with Peach Cosmetics
Share with your friends! Pinterest LinkedIn Email Flipboard Reddit At just 13, Kentucky native Norah Martin is already shaking up the beauty world. She recently launched Peach Cosmetics, a lip gloss line that donates $1 per sale to the Kentucky Humane Society. With guidance from her mom, beauty industry veteran Kaitlyn Hubert, Norah created 15 vitamin E-infused shades in just three months. Inspired by her rescue dogs and love of horses, she's building a brand with heart — and big plans for expansion. Her journey proves that passion, purpose, and a little gloss go a long way. Meet Norah, the inspiring young FACE of the South! Pin Can you tell us a little bit about Peach Cosmetics? Peach Cosmetics is a lip gloss business that I started to help animals at the Kentucky Humane Society and to raise money for my own horse. I am an avid animal lover, and I am saving enough money to buy a Blue Roan Quarter Horse. Pin How did the idea for Peach Cosmetics come about, and where did the name come from? I was thinking of something I wanted to sell, and decided lip gloss is something everyone wants — and you can never have too many! I was just bouncing a few names around when I threw out 'Peach' and designed a logo to match. The logo looked cute, so I decided to go with that. I officially launched Peach Cosmetics on February 16, 2025! Pin How do you spend your time when you're not busy being a business owner? I'm an eighth grader at Shelby County West Middle School in Shelbyville, KY, where I do barrel racing, play volleyball, and am part of the drill team, which is like doing synchronized swimming on horses. I've been playing volleyball for about five years and have been on the drill team for two, but I've been riding horses for almost a decade! I also enjoy playing with my three dogs (Koda, Emmy, and Bunk), hanging out with friends and family, and spending time at church. Pin What do you want to be when you grow up? After I graduate from high school, I want to attend the University of Auburn because they have an amazing veterinary program. Once I get my degree, I'd like to become an equine vet — that's been my dream for as long as I can remember. What about Peach Cosmetics? How would you like to see the company grow? I'd like to expand to include more products, like eyeshadow, mascara, and more. I want to create more colors, too. I'm working on some new things as we speak! What's one thing you want people to know about Peach Cosmetics? It's really long-lasting, pigmented, and smells amazing. Plus, it supports a good cause: the Kentucky Humane Society. I also have a dog that we adopted from the Humane Society, so I wanted to give back to them. What's one thing about you that people might be surprised to know? I make all the Peach Cosmetics colors myself! I just mix pigments until I've created a color I like. Pin What's your favorite thing to do when you're not working on Peach Cosmetics? I like to ride horses, play volleyball, and hang out with friends and family. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received? Stay consistent and don't give up! I've heard this from my parents as well as several of my coaches. Where are your favorite places to eat, shop, and play around Louisville? I like Texas Roadhouse for food, American Eagle for shopping, and Breakout Games for fun! Aside from faith, family, and friends, what are three things you can't live without? My dogs, my sports, and horses. ********** Southern women are doing inspiring work. Meet more of them over at our FACES archives!
