Man dies in two-vehicle collision

A 74-year-old man was killed recently in a two-car collision near Rising Star in Eastland County, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety media release. Shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday, Earl Morgan Wright of Rising Star was stopped in the eastbound lane of State Highway 36, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear so he could turn left onto County Road 377, the DPS said in a media release. About 1 and a half miles from town, Wright was driving a 2025 Chevrolet Trax crossover SUV with Stacey Marie Wright, 53, riding as a passenger, the DPS said. Behind the SUV, a 2019 Kenworth T680 semi-truck towing a flatbed trailer driven by Noel Enrique Torrez-Carrasco, 31, of Houston approached the intersection, the DPS said. A preliminary investigation indicated Torrez-Carrasco failed to control his truck's speed and struck the Wrights' vehicle from behind, the DPS said. Earl Morgan Wright was pronounced dead at the scene by Eastland County Justice of the Peace Jesse Speer, the DPS said. Stacey Marie Wright was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the DPS said. Torrez-Carrasco was listed as uninjured. All three were wearing seatbelts. More: Here are Wylie ISD's performance ratings from the state More: How did Abilene ISD do on state performance ratings?
