Lee: 66 years on, SUPP has shown its commitment in building S'wak as a progressive region

Yii (eighth left) raises the SUPP flag, as others look on. MIRI (June 5): Sixty-six years since its establishment, the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) has successfully demonstrated its spirit of struggle and commitment in helping to build Sarawak into a fast-developing, inclusive and progressive region. SUPP Miri-Sibuti Parliamentary Liaison Committee (MSPLC) chairman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said he was proud to join the party's members in celebrating the 66th anniversary, calling it an achievement of decades of dedication, service and unity in Sarawak and the nation as a whole. 'Since its establishment in 1959, SUPP has been a vocal advocate for the rights and welfare of the people of Sarawak and today, as we raise this (SUPP) flag, let it stand as a symbol of our shared commitment to building a strong, inclusive and progressive Sarawak,' he said. His text of speech was read by MSPLC vice chairman Adam Yii, who represented Lee, at the SUPP MSPLC flag raising ceremony held at the SUPP Piasau branch yesterday. 'Let us take a moment to reflect on the contributions of past leaders, who displayed courage and vision and laid the foundation for the progress we enjoy today. Their sacrifices remind us that leadership is about service, about standing up for what is right, and putting the people's interests above all else. We are indebted to them and we pledge to the carry the torch of this struggle with pride.' Lee said that since forming Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in 2018 together with the other component parties, SUPP has continued to play a vital role in shaping policies that empower the people and drive Sarawak's development. 'Together with our coalition partners, we have tirelessly worked to ensure that Sarawak's interests are always prioritised in every decision and action. SUPP within GPS has achieved many significant milestones, each one a vital step toward building a stronger, more advanced, and prosperous Sarawak for the benefit of its people,' he said. He also recalled some key achievements of SUPP alongside GPS, such as infrastructure development; economic growth; education and human capital development; sustainability and green development; as well as social welfare and community support, including the creation of the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) for senior citizens in Sarawak, alongside Sarawak community initiatives to ensure inclusive development that touches the lives of all level of society. 'As the people of Sarawak, we are stronger when we are united. Together, we can achieve Sarawak's full potential and ensure that no one is left behind in the tide of development. 'Today, as we raise this flag, let it serve as a reminder of who we are: a united people with shared hopes, guided by SUPP's values, and bound by a common goal. Let this flag inspire us to continue working toward a strong, inclusive, and progressive Sarawak — a Sarawak where every one of its people can succeed,' Lee said.

SUPP Bawang Assan committed to supporting community through frequent mobile services

Lau (right) provides an explanation to an elderly man during the mobile service. SIBU (June 1): The Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch aims to enhance the frequency of its mobile services to better connect with and support the community. Its chairman Kevin Lau said that aside from addressing public concerns and feedback regarding council matters, road conditions or drainage issues, the mobile service also helps with applications for the Kenyalang Gold Card and Senior Citizen Health Benefits. 'I think every time when we offer mobile services, we always obtain quite good responses from those who seek out these services. So, we will try to do it as frequently as possible as part of our service to the people,' he told The Borneo Post when met during the mobile service at a coffee shop here yesterday. He added that as the Sarawak government has been implementing various forms of assistance, they will also explore ways to enhance support for this application. 'The key point we want to emphasise is that it is essential for everyone to register for Sarawak ID and S Pay Global, as it is very likely that all future assistance will be channelled through these applications.' Lau mentioned yesterday's mobile service was very meaningful, as it coincided with the Dragon Boat Festival. 'Today (May 31), we will be distributing about 100 dumplings to the public as a gesture of our well wishes to them. 'I think what is even more important is to commemorate the deep meaning of this celebration. The Dragon Boat Festival has always been about promoting unity,' he said, adding that the Gawai Dayak celebration was a similar occasion. 'We want to spread this message especially in our society. We are delighted to have a harmonious society in Sarawak, where people of all ethnicities interact and mingle well. 'We hold mutual respect and always practice tolerance, nurturing a closer-knit community with a more unified stance, which has become a part of our Sarawak culture,' he said. bawang assan Kevin Lau mobile services SUPP

Sarawak govt contributes RM10,000 to Lions Nursing Home for Gawai

Fatimah presents a Kenyalang Gold Card to one of the residents of Lions Nursing Home in Kuching. KUCHING (June 1): Lions Nursing Home Kuching today received a festive contribution of RM10,000 from the Sarawak government during a visit by Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah. Fatimah said the contribution was part of the ministry's ongoing outreach to senior citizens during festive seasons. 'From our delegation, on my left is the Director of the Sarawak Welfare Department, Tuan Haji Semawi. 'In our brief discussion just now, he said that we still have the funds, and we are going to donate RM10,000 – that is our Gawai gift and our ziarah (visitation) gift for today,' she told a press conference held in conjunction with the Program Ziarah Warga Emas Sempena Sambutan Hari Gawai Dayak dan Hari Raya Aidiladha 2025 at the nursing home on Saturday. Fatimah also announced that Kenyalang Gold Cards and the Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB) initiative would be extended to eligible residents of the home. She said the effort aimed to improve access to health services and support systems for senior citizens in the state. 'The Kenyalang Gold Card will allow them to receive discounts and rebates from our strategic partners, especially pharmacies and private hospitals,' she said. She also highlighted that the SCHB initiative, which provides RM500 annually per eligible recipient, will continue next year. This benefit is available to those with household incomes below RM7,000, to support medical treatment at private clinics and hospitals. 'I have to thank Dr Asmah (Nazahiyah Said), Head of the Private Medical Practice Control Branch, Sarawak State Health Department, who has been helping us from the beginning to ensure this health benefit becomes a reality, especially in identifying potential panel clinics,' she said. Fatimah expressed appreciation to Lions Nursing Home and its chairperson Datin Ellis Suriyati Omar for their service and commitment. She noted that Ellis' contributions to society extend beyond the state level. 'She is very active not only locally but also globally through the Lions Club. Because of her involvement, we have nominated her for a state-level Women's Day award under the social activist category,' she said. The visit also included officers from her ministry, the Sarawak Welfare Department, the Social Development Council, and researchers currently conducting a state-wide study on aging in Sarawak. 'This is a comprehensive study covering over 3,000 respondents across urban and rural areas, including different ethnic groups and gender segments. It is being carried out by a consortium involving Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, Curtin University Malaysia and University of Technology Sarawak,' she said. She said the findings from the study would be crucial in preparing Sarawak for the challenges of becoming an aging state by 2028. 'We want to understand the profile of our senior citizens – what issues they face depending on where they live, their gender, and their ethnicity – so we can provide the right support systems,' she said. Fatimah stressed that the state government is committed to ensuring the wellbeing of all age groups, from children and women to at-risk individuals and senior citizens. 'Our ministry's responsibility is to ensure that no one is left behind in the state's development. Everyone, whether young or old, rich or poor, deserves proper attention,' she said. The minister recalled a previous visit to the home during Chinese New Year, where a resident broke down in tears and expressed a longing for family visitation. 'That memory has stayed with me. Our visit today is to give cheer and confidence. You are not alone, we are with you,' she said. Fatimah commended the Lions Nursing Home for its 30 years of continuous service despite financial challenges, describing its contribution as a testament to the organisation's credibility. 'Congratulations and thank you. May God guide us in our quest to provide care and comfort to the needy and disadvantaged in our society,' she said. fatimah abdullah Kuching Lions Nursing Home

SUPP Kuching assists over 300 students at night counter for special aid applications

SUPP Kuching Branch helping tertiary students apply for the RM1,200 special living aid at Life Café Padungan. KUCHING (May 17): The Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Kuching branch reaffirmed its commitment to the community by successfully hosting a night counter service at Life Café in Padungan here on Thursday, drawing strong participation from tertiary students and local residents. The event, part of an ongoing initiative to assist applicants for the state's Special Financial Assistance (BKK), was organised in response to positive demand following the previous week's session. According to Youth chief Nicholas Wung, the branch helped more than 300 tertiary students apply for the RM1,200 special living aid over two consecutive weeks. The branch, he added, also offered both on-site application processing and remote support through social media. 'In addition to in-person service, we received numerous inquiries and provided guidance through online channels,' said Wung in a statement. Besides the students' living aid applications, the counter also offered a range of services including Kenyalang Gold Card registration, social welfare subsidies, OKU registration, legal consultations, and document certification. Wung shared that Miri mayor Adam Yii, who happened to walk past the area at that time, visited the site to observe the operation and expressed praise for the team's down-to-earth service delivery and responsiveness. 'The volunteers, comprising members from the Branch Committee, Youth Wing, Women's Wing, and community leaders have provided their assistance, ensuring the programme's smooth process. 'Assistance extended beyond form filling, including help with parental income verification, Sarawak ID registration, and income documentation for families without formal proof,' he stated. Wung encouraged eligible tertiary students and local residents to seize the opportunity and reaffirmed the branch's commitment to continuing services as needed.
