Eagles OL Kenyon Green carted off with an injury
The Eagles traded safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Texans this offseason for offensive lineman Kenyon Green and a 2026 fifth-round pick. Both players were injured Thursday. Gardner-Johnson injured his knee in a training camp practice at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, and Green was carted off in the second half of a preseason game. Green was holding his right wrist as he departed, Brooks Kubena of reports. With 10 minutes left in the game, Eagles quarterback Kyle McCord was intercepted by Bengals linebacker Joe Giles-Harris on what initially was ruled a 37-yard touchdown but overturned by replay. Green was injured trying to make the tackle. Green, a former first-round pick, missed all of the 2023 season and five games of the 2024 season with a shoulder injury.

Eagles' training camp: Kenyon Green practices for the first time this summer
Kenyon Green is participating in Eagles practice after missing the first two days of training camp Philadelphia returned to the NovaCare Complex on Saturday, and Eagles offensive guard Kenyon Green is on the field for the team's third training camp practice. Green had missed the first two practices due to a knee injury. The Eagles acquired Green this offseason in the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade and expect him to compete with Tyler Steen for the starting right guard job. Steen has gotten every first-team rep in camp so far. Green, the 15th overall pick by Houston in the 2022 draft, has had a rough start to his NFL career, allowing five sacks and 28 total pressures in 2024. Like Becton last off-season, Green is joining the Eagles with untapped potential after early career struggles. Green started 14 of 15 games as a rookie but was the 77th-highest-graded guard (37.7) out of 77 players in Pro Football Focus rankings that year. Last season, Green was one of the lowest-graded offensive guards in the NFL. The Eagles are attempting to develop Green's talent under the coaching of Jeff Stoutland.

New Texans DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson listed as extension candidate before taking field
New Texans DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson listed as extension candidate before taking field originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When the Texans made the move to acquire an anchor in the secondary earlier in the offseason, there were some questions around the long-term impact of the move. The organization moved on from one of its former first-round picks, guard Kenyon Green, but got one of the league's premier safeties in return. Advertisement While he hasn't taken a snap in Houston yet, that hasn't stopped the predictions from rolling in about new defensive cornerstone C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Recently, Moe Moton from Bleacher Report listed the Space City safety as the Texan who is most important for the organization to lock up for the long haul. Texans defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson was listed by Bleacher Report as the top candidate for an extension in Houston heading into the 2025 NFL Season.© Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images "Typically, teams should wait for a new acquisition to take a snap before signing him to a new deal, but Gardner-Johnson is past the prove-it stage of his career," Moton said of the new Houston defensive back in his article. "He logged six interceptions in two of the last three seasons, recorded 12 pass breakups last year and plays multiple positions at a high level. The Texans know what they acquired when they traded for him. He's an underpaid addition with only $2 million guaranteed on his contract for the year." The full trade between the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans back in early March included Gardner-Johnson and a 2026 sixth-round pick going to Houston while the Eagles got the aforementioned Kenyon Green and a 2025 fifth-round pick that turned into linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. Advertisement As Moton mentioned in his explanation for choosing Gardner-Johnson, the seventh-year defensive back has entered a stage in his career where he is veteran who has proved his worth and brings more than on-field skill to the organization. Across 74 games in his career, he has 18 interceptions, 51 pass deflections and 2 forced fumbles. His 2024 campaign was one of his best, with him tying his career high in interceptions with 6 and running one back 69 yards for his first career pick six in Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys. Gardner-Johnson's impact extends beyond the field. The veteran has an off-field presence that is one of the biggest in the league and he will be a vocal lead in a deep defensive backs group this year in Houston. Advertisement "He [Gardner-Johnson] gonna bring a whole nother, like, just.. like Kamari [Lassiter], like craziness," Texans cornerback and defensive captain Derek Stingley Jr. told the media after the trade news broke. "I think he'll gel well with the rest of us and we're just gonna go out there and have fun." Now, it's a waiting game to see if Houston decides to lock up its new playmaker long term. Any deal would likely come before Texans training camp kicks off on July 22. Related: Texans' C.J. Eagles Bet on Breakout Potential of Kenyon Green and Azeez Ojulari
Eagles Bet on Breakout Potential of Kenyon Green and Azeez Ojulari originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles have made headlines with their offseason acquisitions of guard Kenyon Green and outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari. According to ESPN's Bill Barnwell in his latest breakout candidates analysis, both players are positioned to have career-defining seasons in 2025. Advertisement The Eagles acquired Green from the Houston Texans in exchange for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, representing a classic change-of-scenery gamble. Green's NFL journey has been marked by adversity since being selected 15th overall in 2022. After struggling as a rookie, he missed all of 2023 with a shoulder injury and was benched in October 2024, allowing five sacks and 28 total pressures in 582 snaps. But Barnwell sees significant upside in Green's move to Philadelphia, writing that legendary offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland could unlock the former Texas A&M star's potential. The two-time consensus All-American will work under Stoutland, who transformed Mekhi Becton from struggling project to capable contributor. At 23, Green moves from Houston's struggling line to Philadelphia's dominant unit with minimal pressure, earning just $1.4 million in 2025. Meanwhile, the Eagles signed Ojulari to a one-year, $4 million deal after four seasons with division-rival New York. Despite injury concerns, Barnwell identifies Ojulari as a prime breakout candidate due to his talent and Philadelphia's system. The former Giants pass rusher set a franchise rookie record with eight sacks in 2021 but has battled injuries, playing only 29 of 51 games over his last three seasons. When healthy, he's been productive, with six sacks in 11 games in 2024. One compelling aspect of Ojulari's signing is his reunion with former Georgia teammates including Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith and Nakobe Dean. This familiarity could accelerate his integration into a defense that just won a Super Bowl. He'll serve as a situational pass rusher, escaping the shadow of Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns in New York. Despite his injury history, he was projected to earn $7.6 million per season, making his $4 million deal excellent value. Advertisement Both players represent classic low-risk, high-reward acquisitions that championship teams make. Barnwell's analysis highlights shrewd moves by general manager Howie Roseman — reclamation projects with first-round pedigree who could become significant contributors. For a team that won the Super Bowl with similar change-of-scenery success stories like Saquon Barkley and Zack Baun, Green and Ojulari represent the next wave of potential breakout stars in Philadelphia's remarkable ability to maximize talent through smart acquisitions. Eagles' offensive guard makes an ESPN list of traded players who could break out or flop
Eagles' offensive guard makes an ESPN list of traded players who could break out or flop Philadelphia acquired Kenyon Green from Houston and the Eagles' offensive guard makes an ESPN list of traded players who could break out or flop In a move that shocked fans in Philadelphia and Houston, C.J. Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Texans along with a 2026 sixth-round pick for offensive guard Kenyon Green and Houston's 2026 sixth-round pick. The move came less than 24 hours after the team traded Kenny Pickett to the Browns for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a fifth-round pick. It also comes hours after Josh Sweat agreed to a deal with the Cardinals, and Milton Williams decided to join the Patriots. Green, like Mekhi Becton before him, had an inconsistent start to his career with his former team, but he offers versatility and solid traits. Most importantly, he's entering the last year of his rookie deal at a $2.88 million salary. ESPN's Bill Barnwell recently looked at 12 players who were traded or signed deals with new teams and have the opportunity for a breakout campaign or a major flop in 2025. Green made that list for Philadelphia in what could be his final chance at being an every-down performer. Could Green be that guy this year? Becton left in free agency for the Chargers, leaving a competition at right guard between third-year lineman Tyler Steen and Green. If Steen wins that job, Green could compete with Kendall Lamm for the sixth or seventh lineman role in the lineup. If Stoutland can make Green a more consistent blocker, there's a chance he reaches the star potential that the Texans expected from him. Going from arguably the worst offensive line situation in the league to its best, Green needs to succeed in Philadelphia. Otherwise, it's probably not going to happen anywhere else. Green missed all of 2023 with a shoulder injury, and before suffering another shoulder issue last October, he led all guards in pressures allowed (36). He ranked third in quick pressures allowed (14), per NFL Next Gen Stats. Green grew up in Humble, Texas. He was a five-star recruit coming out of Atascocita High School and originally committed to LSU as a high school sophomore before deciding on the Texas A&M Aggies.' The 6-foot-4, 325-pound Green turned 24 years old on Saturday, March 15. Green was a first-team AP All-America selection in his final season at Texas A&M and should thrive under offensive line coach Jeff Stout land.
