Some governors acting like mafia hitmen against citizens: Tushar Gandhi

T'puram: Criticizing the role of governors, Tushar Gandhi , the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi , said that some governors are like hitmen used by mafias against citizens. "There are two types of governors in the country. One type is sent to BJP-ruled states to enjoy a retired life. The second type is sent to opposition-ruled states with instructions to disrupt governance. These governors act as super vice-chancellors and disrupt higher education, forgetting their duties to protect the Constitution and improve democracy," Gandhi said. Gandhi's remarks came while he was inaugurating a national seminar organized by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad here on the challenges faced by universities. "The educated upper class in India is becoming more irrational, falling victim to the false propaganda experiments conducted by communal forces. They have been made to believe that Hindus are in danger and will soon be wiped out. These forces ensure that the majority supports any atrocities they commit, paving the way for the persecution of minorities," he said. The education system, which lacks rational thinking and promotes enslavement, aids this process, Gandhi added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He said that Centre's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 maintains a flawed perspective on education and creates a system that further enslaves students. "Today's education hides realities, eliminates rational thinking, and fosters a slave mentality, becoming a tool to propagate the interests of those in power. People in every region must take responsibility to counter these issues. States should have the right to develop their educational systems, creating an education model that aligns with their culture and region," Gandhi said. Tushar Gandhi slams governors for acting as ‘Super Chancellors'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and noted author, on Saturday lashed out at governors, alleging they have turned into super chancellors and misuse their position to obstruct the functioning of elected governments. He alleged that governors were being used as political tools of the Centre to weaken state administrations. Speaking at a national seminar organised by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) on challenges in higher education, Gandhi said, "Now the governors are acting as super chancellors. Those in BJP-ruled states enjoy retirement, while those in opposition states are tasked with making governance difficult," he remarked. Gandhi also came down heavily on the National Education Policy (NEP), warning that it would create enslaved minds by curbing rational thought and academic freedom. He argued that education had lost the freedom it once enjoyed, with teachers forced into a system that discouraged questioning. "If primary education itself is shackled, the future will suffer. We need state-oriented education models instead of a one-size-fits-all union policy," he said. Expressing concern over the decline of rational thinking in society, Gandhi said even educated people were falling prey to irrational claims spread on social media. Citing an example, he said, "One of my relatives, a former IIT professor, forwarded a photo of a circular rainbow calling it 'Brahma Danush'. Natural phenomena are now being projected as miracles to fuel irrational practices. These are propaganda tools of fascist forces."

Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad opposes plan to introduce uniform Kerala Studies course

The Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Higher Education Minister R. Bindu over the introduction of a common curriculum on Kerala Studies in universities. In a memorandum jointly issued by KSSP general secretary P.V. Divakaran and president T.K. Meerabai, the organisation opposed the proposed plan to prepare a common curriculum across all universities based on a book published by the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC). Outlining its demands, KSSP stated its opposition towards a unified curriculum or textbook-centric approach for Kerala Studies. Such a stance could undermine the academic autonomy and restrict the ability of universities to reflect regional, cultural and historical diversity of their syllabi. It also stressed that the curriculum should go beyond tracing the conventional span of the State from its prehistoric hunter-gatherer roots to the Renaissance movements, and must include narratives of progressive democratic movements, the communist movement and the formation of modern Kerala. The move to rope in a private firm to publish the textbook has also come in for criticism. Calling the decision a violation of established academic procedures, the organisation demanded the restoration of due academic processes involving the Board of Studies and Academic Councils. Citing that most universities have already developed Kerala Studies content, KSSP urged the government to allow the statutory bodies of universities to independently refine these modules in consultation with the KSHEC, rather than imposing centrally produced content.
