Jharkhand Cong initiates process to set up panchayat-level committees

Ranchi, Jul 19 (PTI) Jharkhand Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh on Saturday said the party has initiated a process to set up committees at the panchayat level. He said block-level committees have already been set up. 'There will be 12 members in a panchayat committee, comprising president, two vice presidents and nine general secretaries," Kamlesh said, addressing the party's 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' (organisation rejuvenation campaign) and training programme here. Kamlesh said mandal committees will also be set up once the exercise of constituting panchayat committees is completed, as the president of the panchayat committee will be a member of the mandal committee. The event was attended by block presidents, block observers and mandal presidents of Ranchi and Khunti districts, besides senior party leaders and state ministers. The party's appointment letters were also handed over to the newly appointed mandal presidents on the occasion. 'The block presidents, observers and mandal presidents will visit villages and speak to the people and elected members of panchayat committees to know about the issues. Constituting a panchayat committee is a tough task, as we have to find persons who are fully devoted to the Congress," he said. 'We held a workshop on PESA in Ranchi. A model PESA law will be implemented," he added. Kamlesh said that the party is also fighting for the inclusion of Sarna religious code in the upcoming Census. Cong stages dharna in Ranchi demanding recognition of Sarna religious code

The Congress, a part of the JMM-led ruling coalition in the eastern state, also submitted a memorandum to Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar, urging him to initiate steps in this regard. Jharkhand Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh and in-charge K Raju were among those who took part in the demonstration to push for the inclusion of the code, practiced by the tribals, in the upcoming Census. Ranchi, May 26 (PTI) The Congress in Jharkhand on Monday staged a dharna outside the Raj Bhavan here, seeking recognition of the Sarna religious code. 'The Centre must include the Sarna religious code in the upcoming Census. This has been a long-pending demand of the tribals,' Kamlesh said. Congress leader and state Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey said the tribal society is free to follow and adopt its religion. 'It is our fundamental right. The tribal society believes in equality. The Sarna religious code must be included in the seventh column of the Census,' Tirkey said. 'The Sarna code is tied to the faith, traditions and religious identity of tribals. Its recognition has been a long-standing demand, but the BJP has remained silent on the issue,' Lohardaga MP Sukhdev Bhagat said. PTI SAN RBT This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Cong plans drive to honour armed forces

1 2 3 Dhanbad: The Congress is set to launch its own state-wide campaign, Jaihind Sabha , aimed at honouring the armed forces for their role in Operation Sindoor . The initiative will begin with events across all seven municipal corporation areas in the first phase, from next week eventually expanding to district headquarters, party said on Wednesday. Announcing the campaign, Congress state vice-president and Jaihind Sabha convenor of Dhanbad, Ajay Dubey said, "This initiative is dedicated to our armed forces. Through this programme, we aim to honour the bravery of our soldiers. Both former servicemen and civilians will be invited to participate and express their gratitude." The Congress is positioning this programme as a patriotic outreach, designed not just to show respect to the military, but also to galvanise public support amid the BJP's high-profile Tiranga Yatra, which has been drawing large crowds across Jharkhand. State Congress chief Keshav Mahto Kamlesh has appointed senior leaders to spearhead the programme in key urban centres. Banna Gupta will lead the event in Mango Municipal Corporation, while Ravindra Singh will oversee Adityapur. Yashaswani Sahay will coordinate the programme in Ranchi, and Anupama Singh in Chas. Notably, the Congress party backed the Centre for its Operation Sindoor, in which terrorist strikes were struck in Pakistan .

Cong dharna on May 26 to demand Sarna Code

Ranchi: The state unit of the Congress party will stage a daylong dharna outside Raj Bhavan on May 26 to press for Sarna Code , it announced on Thursday. K Raju, the party's in-charge for Jharkhand affairs, along with state party president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, said Sarna code will give the tribal communities of Jharkhand a separate religious identity. "The Union govt must include a column for the Sarna religion in the upcoming census. We will continue to fight for this until the Sarna code is granted," Raju said while addressing the media here. Ahead of the proposed nationwide caste census , the Grand Old party has been demanding the Narendra Modi govt at the Centre to include a separate column for Sarna code and is accusing it of deliberately ignoring the long-standing demands of the tribals. Kamlesh mentioned that on November 11, 2020, the coalition govt led by Hemant Soren had convened a special session and passed a proposal for the Sarna code, which was sent to the central govt, but no action has been taken yet. "In the upcoming census, one more column has been reduced. Previously there were seven columns, now it has been reduced to six. Every religion has its own code, so the tribals should also have theirs too," he said. Congress legislative party leader Pradeep Yadav on the other hand said that Modi govt has buckled under the press put by Congress and finally decided to conduct a caste-based census.

Congress holds 'Jai Hind Tiranga Yatra' in Ranchi to support 'Operation Sindoor', salutes armed forces

Ranchi; The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress on Friday organised a 'Jai Hind Tiranga Yatra' in Ranchi in support of the Indian Army's decisive action under 'Operation Sindoor', targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan. The 'Jai Hind Tiranga Yatra' was aimed at boosting the morale of the armed forces and demonstrating solidarity with their efforts. The rally began from the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress headquarters at Shraddhanand Road in Ranchi and culminated at Albert Ekka Chowk. It was led by state Congress President Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, with a large turnout of party leaders and workers. Prominent participants included Jharkhand government ministers Dr Irfan Ansari and Deepika Pandey Singh, former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay, and Metropolitan Congress President Kumar Raja. Participants marched with the national flag, raising slogans like 'Hindustan Zindabad' and 'Indian Army Zindabad'. Speaking on the occasion, Keshav Mahto Kamlesh said, 'The Tricolour is the pride of our country. We are ready to make every sacrifice to defend it. At a time when Pakistan has become a breeding ground for terrorism, our armed forces are giving a befitting response. The Congress party salutes the valour of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. We are confident of victory in the fight against terrorism.' Minister Deepika Pandey Singh added, 'The Indian Army is entering enemy territory and holding Pakistan accountable for its misdeeds.
