Search launched after Duke of Edinburgh Award participant goes missing

A Duke of Edinburgh award participant was separated from their group in the Lake District this week. The incident occurred above Harrop Tarn, Thirlmere, on Thursday, May 29, around 12.20pm. Due to a lack of mobile signal, the group couldn't contact their missing friend and requested help. Keswick Mountain Rescue Team initiated a search along the intended route towards Watendath. Fortunately, the missing person was found shortly after, 'a little cold and wet but otherwise fit and well'.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were called out to Stockley Bridge at 2;29pm yesterday, May 19 following a call from a 'well prepared' 20 year old hiker, who had re-damaged an old knee injury whilst returning from an ascent of Scafell Pike. In a statement on social media, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said: "A keen and well prepared 20 year old hiker was returning from an ascent of Scafell Pike when so very close to the finish, at Stockley Bridge above Seathwaite, he went over on his ankle and re-damaged an old injury to his knee. On arrival team members gave him some additional pain relief, he had already had some from his own first aid kit, vacuum splinted his leg and carried him to the road from where an ambulance promptly took him to hospital for checks."

Youths overturn canoe causing huge Lake District rescue response

A canoe which was pushed into a lake by youths sparked a huge emergency response involving a helicopter flying from Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) said it deployed search teams to Thirlmere in the Lake District after reports were received of an overturned canoe, with the potential for people in the water, near the dam late on Friday evening. Cumbria Fire Service deployed a boat onto the reservoir, while a HM Coastguard Helicopter flew in from Caernarfon, North Wales, to help with the search. Walker injured in Lake District fall tells mountain rescuers 'My dog pushed me'

A walker who was injured while falling from a steep Lake District crag told mountain rescuers his dog Benji 'pushed him'. The man fell down the 'very steep' descent from Eagle Crag on Good Friday afternoon. He said he had gone to lift Benji down a steep step, but the dog 'pushed me' sending him tumbling down the hillside. Luckily his fall was broken by a ledge, but he did suffer a gash to his head. After being alerted by a passing walker, volunteers from Keswick Mountain Rescue were called to help. A spokesperson for KMRT said: "Many thanks to the passing walker who showed us the way to the casualty. A team medic scrambled up to the man and treated his wound whilst a rope was rigged from above to allow a protected scramble back up for a walk off down a better path. "By the time the team reached the bottom of the hill Benji had long since been forgiven!"
