Blencathra hiker dies in fall at Sharp Edge in Cumbria

A man in his 20s has died after falling from a popular mountain ridge hikers had been traversing Sharp Edge on Blencathra, in Cumbria, when one of the group fell to the north side of the Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) was called to the scene on Saturday shortly after 13:30 BST and was helped by volunteers from Penrith."Our thoughts and condolences go to the man's friends and family," a spokesperson said. Two groups of volunteers were involved in the search, with 19 from Keswick and 11 from Penrith Mountain Rescue Team."One team made their way to the casualty whilst the other went to assist the rest of the group off the ridge," the spokesperson said."Sadly, the man did not survive the fall."A coastguard helicopter was also dispatched to the Police confirmed the man's death and said a file would be prepared for the coroner. Three paddleboarders who are believed to have got into difficulty in the Lake District have been urged to contact Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) said it was alerted on Friday evening about three people on "comprehensive searches" by KMRT, police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and the ambulance service, there were no signs of anybody in distress. KMRT appealed for anyone who knew about a group of three people on the lake, or were on it themselves as a trio, to contact Cumbria Police to confirm their safe return. 14-member Rescue team called on Fell to help injured woman

Keswick Mountain Rescue were called out to an incident on Helvellyn on June 18, to respond to a woman's call for assistance. The agency was called out at 6:50pm, on Birk Side, when woman suffered a calf injury whilst descending the Fell towards Thirlmere. The Keswick Mountain Rescue team spent 2 hours 22 minutes attending the issue, with 14 team members involved. In a Facebook post, the rescue service said: "In pain and moving very slowly her party decided to call for assistance. "On arrival Keswick team provided pain relief and sledged/carried the casualty back down to the car park."

A Duke of Edinburgh award participant was separated from their group in the Lake District this week. The incident occurred above Harrop Tarn, Thirlmere, on Thursday, May 29, around 12.20pm. Due to a lack of mobile signal, the group couldn't contact their missing friend and requested help. Keswick Mountain Rescue Team initiated a search along the intended route towards Watendath. Fortunately, the missing person was found shortly after, 'a little cold and wet but otherwise fit and well'.
