Iconic crisps giant announces two new ‘gourmet' flavours inspired by BBC chef's travels
A FAN favourite crisp brand has launched two new "gourmet" flavours in collaboration with a celebrity chef. The two brand new crisp flavours are set to hit UK shelves this summer. Kettle Chips has announced the launch of their two newest flavours, created with help of TV chef Rachel Khoo. New and "sophisticated" the flavours include Brie and Caramelised Onion and Honey Dijon Mustard. Inspired by French flavours the new crisps are already on sale in Waitrose and Morrisons and are set to come to other stores soon. Shoppers will see the crisps on sale in Tesco from June 14 and Sainsbury's will stock them from July 20. The new crisps will retail for £2.65 and will only be available in 130g bags. Inspired by chef Rachel Khoo's time in France the new flavours are being billed as "gourmet." Celebrity chef Rachel has appeared on BBC and Netflix cooking shows. She authored 'The Little Paris Kitchen' bestselling cookbook which launched her to fame in the culinary world. Khoo, who grew up in South London, spent time in France learning to cook after studying at university. She had once worked in PR and marketing before launching her career in cooking. Rachel has since had her own cooking show on BBC, done stints as a judge on 'The Great British Menu' and 'The Great Australian Bake Off'. Now she's working alongside Kettle Chips to bring two new flavours to UK shelves in time for summer. Why are products axed or recipes changed? ANALYSIS by chief consumer reporter James Flanders. Food and drinks makers have been known to tweak their recipes or axe items altogether. They often say that this is down to the changing tastes of customers. There are several reasons why this could be done. For example, government regulation, like the "sugar tax," forces firms to change their recipes. Some manufacturers might choose to tweak ingredients to cut costs. They may opt for a cheaper alternative, especially when costs are rising to keep prices stable. For example, Tango Cherry disappeared from shelves in 2018. It has recently returned after six years away but as a sugar-free version. Fanta removed sweetener from its sugar-free alternative earlier this year. Suntory tweaked the flavour of its flagship Lucozade Original and Orange energy drinks. While the amount of sugar in every bottle remains unchanged, the supplier swapped out the sweetener aspartame for sucralose. Khoo said: "These flavours are a love letter to my time in France where my culinary career began and I learned that great food starts with simple, high-quality ingredients. "I hope these handcooked chips bring as much joy to your taste buds as they do mine." 3 The new French inspired flavours are made with Kettle Chips "real-food ingredient seasonings." Kettle describes the Brie and Caramelised Onion crisps as "pure indulgence, combining the creamy, nutty notes of brie with the deep, umami-rich sweetness of slow-cooked caramelised onions." While the Honey Dijon Mustard flavour is said to "deliver the perfect balance of sweet and tangy, with the warmth of authentic Dijon mustard mellowed by rich, golden honey." The crisps are made with no artificial ingredients and are even gluten free. Khoo and Kettle Chips' newest creation are already available in some stores and set to hit more in the near future. The new crisps are perfect for a summer picnic and have been described by Kettle as "perfect for any occasion."

Kettle Chips just launched ‘epic' new crisps inspired by iconic holiday flavours
If there's one snack that's a must-have when you're on holiday, it's crisps. There's something about the unique flavours you can try in other countries that just beats anything you'll find on supermarket shelves back home. But that might all be about to change, because the team at Kettle Chips have just launched a new range in the UK that's been inspired by some truly tasty holiday eats. The brand has teamed up with Rachel Khoo to create new crisps inspired by the chef's time living in one of Europe's most iconic cities – Paris. There are two options to choose from Honey Dijon Mustard and Brie & Caramelised Onion and they're launching in supermarkets this month. For those that are curious, the Honey Dijon Mustard is said to 'deliver the perfect balance of sweet and tangy, with the warmth of authentic Dijon mustard mellowed by rich, golden honey'. The Brie & Caramelised Onion, on the other hand, is described as being 'pure indulgence, combining the creamy, nutty notes of brie with the deep, umami-rich sweetness of slow-cooked caramelised onions.' Priced at £2.65 for a 130g pack, the French flavoured crisps are available to buy in Waitrose and Morrisons as of right now, but Tesco shoppers will have to wait until June 14 to grab a bag and they won't be hitting the shelves in Sainsbury's until July 20. Online the new potato chips are already cooking up a storm, with fans branding the new range 'epic', and 'yummy' on Instagram, while Kettle Chips themselves have hailed them a 'game-changer'. Metro's specialist food writer, Courtney Pochin, got an early first try of the new crisps and one was an immediate favourite. She said: 'I've never been a big fan of Mustard, something about the tangy heat just doesn't do it for me, so the Honey Dijon Mustard flavour wasn't ever going to be up my street (sorry Kettle Chips!) 'What I do love though, is cheese. As such, the Brie & Caramelised Onion crisps were an instant winner. It's possibly the most decadent, flavour-packed cheese & onion crisp I've ever tried. 'If cheese & onion is your go-to crisp and you've always wished they could taste even cheesier – then these are going to be the ideal snack for you. These will be perfect poured into a big bowl and plopped on a table or picnic mat this summer to share with pals in the sunshine. You'll be transported straight to France with one bite.' Interestingly, Brie wasn't the only type of cheese Kettle Chips and Rachel considered when designing the recipe. The chef and self-proclaimed cheese-a-holic told Metro that several different cheeses were tested, but ultimately were found to be 'too strong' in taste. 'There were two cheese being tested by the end, which were brie and camembert and it all came down to consumer testing and research to refine the flavours and make the final decision. The team work was so important,' she said. 'We really wanted to make something people wanted to eat. More Trending 'For the mustard crisps, it was about getting the level of spice right. I love spicy things, so I was sold on Dijon Mustard.' Rachel adds: 'We felt like France was the right starting point for the crisps and the flavours we've got, they're quite classic, but there's a twist to them, so when you taste them it's like 'Oh, I didn't expect that'.' For those who want to have a little fun with the crisps, Rachel has been sharing some unexpected ways she uses the new flavours in her cooking – from making savoury eclair crisp sandwiches (yes, really) to crushing the Honey and Dijon Mustard crisps up and using the crumbs as a coating for chicken goujons. The chef also claims you can crumble the crisps and pop them over the top of a potato gratin, or even use them to make a savoury cheesecake base. Do you have a story to share? Aldi Shoppers Say These "Dupes" Are Way, Wayyy Better Than The Originals (And Now I Want To Try Them All)
If there's one grocery chain that can pry shoppers away from their die-hard name brands, it's Aldi. Between the weekly specials and the quietly brilliant knockoffs, you never know which look-alike product will end up replacing the 'real' thing in your pantry. That's exactly what Redditor Sleepy_Gary_Busey wanted to explore when they asked r/aldi, 'Which Aldi copies do you actually prefer over the name brand?' The thread filled up fast with a few staples that Aldi fans insist are better than the originals. I sifted through the replies and pulled the 22 most-loved picks so you can decide which swaps are worth making on your next Aldi run. 1."Cheddar Turtle Crackers. Cheese Curls. Kettle Chips. Evolution ONLY bars. Blueberry Breakfast Biscuits. Organic Ketchup (flavor reminds me of Annie's, which I prefer, but that one is hard to find and certainly not $1.99)." —RedSpaceMagic 2."The Cinnamon Crunch Squares cereal is definitely one of them. I can damn near eat a whole box in one sitting. Which is why I haven't purchased any in a while." —emptyfebrezebottles 3."The aged sharp white cheddar. Knocks the socks off anything else I've tried, and I'm a womb-to-tomb Wisconsinite. I have tried a LOT of cheese." —svapplause 4."Knock Your Sprouts Off sprouted-grain bread over Ezekiel, Silver Hills, or other expensive brands that cost $8 a loaf and $10+ at Whole Foods/Sprouts/co-ops." —OrganicBn 5."Aldi Pop-Tarts have way more frosting than name-brand Pop-Tarts." —Otherwise_Rip_7337 6."I like their butter more than Challenge, which is what I usually get. I am sure there are better butters, but just as a regular ol' butter for cooking, it's the best I've had. And I'm a Southern cook, so I use a lot of it." —ItsPumpkinSpiceTime 7."The Moser Roth dark chocolate with sea salt and caramel. I will stop in just for these. I like how each big bar is divided into five individually wrapped pieces." —Commercial_Fun9634 8."Klancy Kettle Salt and Vinegar Chips. They're not as aggressively salty and vinegary as Kettle or Great Lakes, so I can eat way more before my mouth gets raw." —buffalocoinz 9."The Stackerz are better than Pringles. The fancy entertainment crackers that come in a variety pack. My toddler loves the tiny cheese sandwich crackers over the Ritz brand, and I can't eat them because I'll eat the whole box." —gurlsplaygames 10."The breakfast bars (a dupe of Nutrigrain bars). The texture is much better, and they hold together better, so there's less mess. Nutrigrain bars are too crumbly." —FloweredViolin 11."The Fiber Now Bars are a knockoff of Fiber One Bars and are better than the name brand. They have a cinnamon coffee cake flavor, chocolate fudge, and lemon. The lemon is so good and the best one to me." —Relative-Abrocoma812 12."Their Prosecco and Moscato are absolutely delicious! They also make yummy mimosas and a delicious peach bellini." —Loud_Yogurtcloset789 13."I love the hummus! Especially the roasted red pepper flavor. Sometimes a brand name will go on sale at Meijer, so I'll give it a try, but it's never comparable. Brand names are thicker/chunkier, and the flavor is never as nice. Aldi hummus all the way!" —uniquelynameduser123 14."The Hot & Spicy Pork Rinds are half the price of name-brand options and have way better crunch and flavor. Plus, they're a great alternative to chips for anyone looking to lower their carb intake. The Girl Scout cookie knockoffs are just as good, if not better than the real thing, and cost less than half the price." —Mr_Evil_Guy 15."The Never Any! Bacon is my favorite over any other brand because of ingredients, price, quality, and flavor. My husband prefers Aldi Doritos over name-brand Doritos because the chips are better. And then always red bag chicken nuggets over other brands." —illbeyourgoodgirl_ 16."Their original unsweetened almond milk is better than every other brand I've tried. It has a mild flavor, way more similar to actual milk, and works well in recipes. I use it a lot, but in my coffee, I've noticed other brands get WAAAY too foamy if you do any blending with them — Aldi's doesn't. It's also the only almond milk that works well with cereal." —Atrinoisa 17."The homestyle canned biscuits are excellent, and my family prefers them over Pillsbury now." —durden226circa1988 18."The bag of peanut butter cups is my favorite! They are especially amazing with the warm, melty peanut butter in the summer." —Spacey_fangirl 19."The plain Greek yogurt! Half the price of the name brands, usually $2–$3 cheaper than the other store brands near me, and just as good." —mangus42 20."They recently redid their fruit snacks in the big blue box. Fruit snacks are one of my guilty pleasures. These new ones are firmer and have a much better flavor than the old ones. The Specially Selected marinara sauce is bomb. Especially Selected sharp white cheddar block. Their cottage cheese is the only one I will eat. Something about it; I don't know if it's creamier or saltier or what, but it's the best." —mouseSXN 21."The cheddar popcorn and the gluten-free chicken breast pieces (best gluten-free nuggets I've had, and I've tried a lot of brands). Also, the gluten-free bread is the closest to a normal bread loaf size I've seen for a gluten-free product." —Ellocina 22."We've tried so many sourdoughs, other than fresh, Aldi's sourdough has been the best store-bought." —yomaishimi Have a favorite Aldi dupe I missed?
