Kapil Sharma's Canada cafe attacked; Khalistani terrorist takes blame

Kapil Sharma's newly opened café in Surrey, Canada, was targeted in a shooting. Khalistani terrorist Harjit Singh Laddi claimed responsibility. No injuries were reported; the investigation is ongoing. At least nine gunshots were fired at comedian Kapil Sharma's newly opened café in Canada, just a few days after it began operations. No injuries have been reported, according to a report by NDTV. The attack took place at Kap's Café, located in Surrey, British Columbia. The eatery marks Sharma's debut in the restaurant business, with his wife Ginni Chatrath also playing a role in the venture. Khalistani terrorist claims responsibility Khalistani extremist Harjit Singh Laddi has claimed responsibility for the shooting. Authorities say he is among the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) most wanted individuals and is linked to the banned organisation Babbar Khalsa International. He ordered the shooting due to being offended by a past remark made by Sharma, the report added. CCTV captures the attack A video from Wednesday night (local time in Canada) shows a man inside a vehicle firing multiple rounds at the café's window in rapid succession. ???? SHOCKING! Khalistani terrorists open fire at Kapil Sharma's cafe in Canada ???????? — Canadian authorities must take STRICT ACTION against Khalistani terrorists. — Megh Updates ????™ (@MeghUpdates) July 10, 2025 Following the incident, police and forensic teams arrived promptly, and investigations are currently underway. Harjit Singh Laddi is also wanted by Indian authorities for his alleged involvement in the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar, also known as Vikas Bagga. The VHP leader was shot dead at his shop in Punjab's Rupnagar district in April 2024. Concerns over extremist activity in Canada Last month, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) stated that Khalistani extremists have been planning violent acts in India while operating from Canada. "Khalistani extremists continue to use Canada as a base for the promotion, fundraising, or planning of violence primarily in India," the agency said. India has long expressed concern about Khalistani elements using Canadian soil to carry out anti-India activities. New Delhi has often criticised the lack of decisive action from Ottawa. India's stance on free speech and extremism Last year, speaking on the issue, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had said, 'Our biggest problem right now is in Canada. Because in Canada, the party in power and other parties have given these kinds of extremism, separatism, and advocates of violence a certain legitimacy in the name of free speech. When you tell them something, their answer is 'no, we are a democratic country, and it is free speech'.' India-Canada relations: Signs of recovery Relations between India and Canada had severely deteriorated after former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged in 2023 that 'Indian agents' were involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Ties have seen gradual improvement since Mark Carney assumed office as Canada's new Prime Minister earlier this year. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Canada for the G-7 Summit after Carney's assault.

Why Sushi Art's omakase menu needs to be on your to-try list this week

Just when you think sushi in Dubai can't get any better, it surprises you yet again. If you have a craving for Japanese dishes that can never be cured, then you need to get down to Sushi Art to try its latest creation. Every year, Sushi Art collaborates with incredible chefs from around the world to bring some brand new flavours to Dubai. However, this year is extra special, as the restaurant has partnered with UAE-based Michelin Starred chef Grégoire Berger to put the eight-course menu to the table. A huge fan of the JBR restaurant, chef Berger has taken inspiration from meals he's enjoyed at the branch over the years, as well as family and the sea. Showcasing his incredible technique, each plate in the menu tells its own story, an idea all rooting from the timeless Japanese tradition. Starting with a portion of black sesame dynamite shrimp, you'll then be treated to two nostalgic nashi pear and cabbage coleslaw spring rolls with a tangy kick. Obsiblue Roll with Blue Rice and Tom Kha Course number three is the crispy shiso tacos with salmon and kalamansi, quickly followed by two pieces of obsiblue roll with blue rice and tom kha paste. Next up are two nigiri courses, featuring a tuna nigiri with kimchi no moto, made ready to eat in three simple steps with a kimchi-infused ginger, specialty sauce, and seasoning powder. Following this is a torched Wagyu nigiri, served with cherry BBQ sauce. Just when you thought the menu couldn't get any better, it's worth noting that the omakase selection has not one, but two dessert courses. Made up of a matcha ganache mochi with black tea crumble and milk yuzu lemongrass sauce, followed by a chocolate tart with vanilla and buckwheat, you'll be leaving this dinner more than satisfied. Available at all Sushi Art locations across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the experience is for dine-in customers only. Packed with fresh ingredients, flavour and tradition, don't miss your chance to try out the menu and make your way down to Sushi Art today.
