Manchester City are in the FIFA Club World Cup to win it
It is now under three weeks before Manchester City's FIFA Club World Cup campaign begins. Pep Guardiola's side will take on Wydad in their opening fixture of FIFA's expanded tournament. The tournament represents the latest mountain for Manchester City to conquer. Listening to Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak speak, Manchester City's goal is to win the tournament. The merits of yet another tournament being added to the football calendar can be debated. But if Pep Guardiola's side can emerge victorious in the United States, it may be the ideal setting to kickstart Manchester City's next era of dominance. Manchester City's goal is to win the inaugural expanded FIFA Club World Cup. Speaking with Chris Bailey in his annual end-of-season interview for the Manchester City chairman outlined his club's goals at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. Speaking on the upcoming tournament, Khaldoon Al-Mubarak said: 'This is a very, very serious competition. In the summer, the whole world will be watching this. A big number of the top teams in the world will be competing in this tournament. And I can assure you, we're going to give it our best shot. We're going in there to win it.' Advertisement 'We're going to go and try to win this tournament. This is the beginning of the new season, not the continuation of last season. You know, we take some rest. The team will take the rest that they will take right now, and then they start pre-season and then immediately straight into the into the Club World Cup.' A successful Club World Cup can kickstart the 25/26 season for Manchester City. The debate and merits of adding even more fixtures to the ever-growing football calendar can be debated forever and a day. But what the upcoming tournament in the United States represents for Manchester City is a new beginning. An era ended at the club at the end of the 24/25 season. There is no other way to describe Pep Guardiola's side's results this season. That's what has happened and the page has now be turned on that particular chapter. But the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup could represent the beginning of something new. If Manchester City can complete the majority of their summer transfer business ahead of the tournament they will enter the competition with a new look squad. It may be the ideal environment to integrate new signings into the fold at Manchester City. If Pep Guardiola's side can leave the United States as world champions they will enter the 25/26 season full of confidence and belief. That is the upside of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. Advertisement The FIFA Club World Cup is an unknown of sorts. No one knows how or what effect the competition will have on the participating clubs. Furthermore, no one knows how the tournament will play out or unfold. Mark Brus has compiled a detailed report for CaughtOffside on when and how the Club World Cup is scheduled to take place. But the tournament could represent a new beginning for Manchester City. That's an exciting proposition for any and everyone associated with the club ahead of the tournament. If Manchester City leave the United States as world champions they could set up their next era of dominance. That's the goal of Manchester City's chairman and it is achievable for the club.

‘We're going in there to win it': Manchester City chairman targets FIFA Club World Cup success
ABU DHABI: Manchester City's chairman, Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, has provided his annual review of the season to the club's official online channel. In part 2 of the interview he reveals the team's desire to retain the FIFA Club world Cup taking place in June and discusses the developments taking place across City Football Group. Here are some of the highlights. On the FIFA Club World Cup… 'Well, as the defending champions coming into this new format, of course, we're very excited. We're very excited to come in as champions. The format actually, I really like it. 'This is a very, very serious competition. I think, in the summer, the whole world will be watching this with a big number of the top teams in the world will be competing in this tournament. 'I can assure you we're going to give it our best shot. We're going in there to win it. This is the beginning of the new season, not the continuation of last season. 'The team will take the rest that they will take right now, and then they start pre-season and then immediately straight into the Club World Cup.' On Manchester City's North Stand redevelopment… 'It's coming up very fast. It's going to be a great addition to the campus. Once we start the new season, everybody will start physically seeing it a lot clearer. 'The hotel is also coming up nicely. It's moving very, very fast, but we're happy with the contractors on the ground. This is going to be a game changer. You will see over these next 12 to 18 months. This is going to be a game changer for the campus and for the club.' On NYCFC… 'Well, more than the foundation, the work is fully now in full effect. Construction is happening at a fast pace. This is going to be an incredible stadium. We're very excited about what we're doing in New York, what we're doing for that community in terms of a proper football stadium, with a team that now is closing in on 10 years. 'It's been a great journey. And they've earned (it). They deserve a stadium, and finally, they're going to get it. And we have now a line of sight of when it's going to be finished and it'll be transformative for football fans in New York, for our fan base, and really at a time where football is booming in America.' On City Football Group… 'It's developed very well. We look at City Football Group as a group, but then each team individually and each team gets the attention it requires and gets a lot of attention from the whole leadership team. 'There's individuality with each club. Depending on where they are around the world, each one has its own requirements. But overall, one of the things that gives us confidence is how many similar models now are following our CFG model. 'There are a lot of other groups now that are pursuing what we have built at City Football Group, which tells you there's an appreciation that this is a good model and it's a model that's effective.'

Khaldoon Al Mubarak eyes new Manchester City signings after disappointing season
Manchester City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has vowed to make new signings and challenge for the English Premier League again next year. Al Mubarak is confident the football team will be back competing for the game's biggest prizes next season after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign in the English Premier League. Manchester City finished with just the Community Shield in a challenging season after being beaten to the title by Liverpool, the most successful club in the history of English football. Manchester City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak In an interview published by the club's website, Al Mubarak admitted City slipped below 'our usual standards' – but is confident City will be back challenging for silverware next term. He said Manchester City are targeting several new signings this summer – with the aim of revamping Pep Guardiola's squad before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup on 14 June. Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: 'We will be back. This season is a season that's now behind us. Today is a new day. We start working and preparing for next season. 'And by the way, we've been doing that since January. And we will take all the good things and the not so good things from this season and learn from it and improve from it and get better. 'I can assure you, this club will do everything possible to come back to the standards that we know we all can achieve and that we know, we will achieve. 'Because really, if there's one thing I'd like right now, it's to turn that page from last season and just immediately start focusing on next season.' The Chairman was in attendance for Manchester City's final game of the season at Fulham, a game that saw City end on a high note with a dominant performance and a 2-0 win. After the game, the Chairman found time to talk to some of the players, before a meeting with the Club's directors the following morning to continue their summer transfer planning. He said he sensed a determination among the players to come back stronger after the short post-season break. Al Mubarak said: 'Everyone I saw after the Fulham game, all the players, they're excited, they're excited about coming back. Nobody feels good about how we finished the season. They want to come back, and they want to come back hungry. 'I can see the hunger. And these players, they want to come back to pre-season. Normally these players are off and they're starting to think about vacation time. Honestly, every player I spoke to was telling me, you know, we're coming back. 'We're ready to come back in three weeks' time. I was speaking to Rodri, as an example, he's looking for games. Erling didn't want to go on vacation. He wanted to stay with the physios and prepare for next season. 'That's the attitude you want. And that's exactly why you see me so positive. 'We're going to come back strong, with a lot of positivity. I just got off the phone right now with Ferran [Soriano]. He spent the day with Txiki [Begiristain], Pep [Guardiola] and Hugo [Viana]. 'We finished yesterday evening, our last game. And today, we're working. Nobody's going on vacation yet.'

Man City chief sends message to fans waiting for verdict on 130 charges hearing
Manchester City and the Premier League are still waiting for the independent commission's verdict on the 130 charges the club face over the alleged breaking of financial fair play rules Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has urged fans to remain patient with the club still waiting on the verdict of the 130 charges they face. The Premier League charged City back in February 2023. The club were accused of breaking financial fair play rules over a nine-year period, which started in 2009 and went on until 2018. They have also been charged with failing to co-operate with Premier League investigations into their finances. The Premier League allege City failed to provide accurate financial information. It is also alleged that City they didn't fully disclose the financial remunerations that were made to one of their managers over a four-year period. City are also accused of failing to comply with UEFA's FFP rules over a five-year period. For their part, the club deny all the charges and a 10-week trial was heard by an independent panel earlier this year. A verdict was originally expected in Spring 2025, but there is still no sign of it being published. Al Mubarak has now reiterated that supporters need to stay patient while the wait continues. He told City's club website: 'Well, I suppose the only thing I can say is we still don't have a ruling. Once there's a ruling, I'll be able to speak about it. Until then we just have to be patient, and it'll come, and we will talk about it, I promise you, once we have the ruling.' With the charges hanging over the club, they endured a difficult season, finishing third in the Premier League. It is just the second time in Pep Guardiola's career that his team has finished outside the top two of their division. City also failed to win a major trophy, though their third-place finish did ensure qualification for the Champions League. Al Mubarak has insisted City have learned their lessons and expects the club to be active players in the summer transfer market. 'I can tell you today, we have clearly identified who exactly are the targets, in what positions, and we have our clear number one option, our clear number two option,' he added. 'And we'll go about our business, and it will be very clear, very swift. Our objective is to try to be ready with the new squad for the Club World Cup. We will be back. This season is a season that's now behind us. Today is a new day. "We start working and preparing for next season. And by the way, we've been doing that since January. And we will take all the good things and the not so good things from this season and learn from it and improve from it and get better. 'And I can assure you, this Club will do everything possible to come back to the standards that we know we all can achieve and that we know, we will achieve. Because really, if there's one thing I'd like right now, it's to turn that page from last season and just immediately start focusing on next season.'

Man City chief urges club to stay patient over charges decision
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said his club are being "patient" as they wait for the verdict on charges of alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. City were referred to an independent commission in February 2023 over the charges, which the club strongly deny. Advertisement The case was heard between September and December last year but no decision has yet been announced. City could face a points deduction, a heavy fine or even relegation from the Premier League if they are found guilty. "Well, I suppose the only thing I can say is we still don't have a ruling," Khaldoon said this week. "Once there's a ruling, I'll be able to speak about it. Until then we just have to be patient, and it'll come, and we will talk about it, I promise you, once we have the ruling." The investigation, which resulted in more than 100 charges being made against City, started back in 2018. Advertisement City were charged with failing to report accurate financial information for nine seasons stretching from 2009-10 to 2017-18, as well as failing to provide full details of former manager Roberto Mancini's pay between 2009-10 and 2012-13. They are also charged with failing to provide full details of remuneration in contracts with players between 2010-11 and 2015-16, and with failing to co-operate with the investigation over a period from 2018 to 2023. The club said at the time the charges were laid that they welcomed the opportunity for a commission "to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of our position". City won the Champions League at the end of the season the charges were laid, securing themselves a place in FIFA's expanded 32-team Club World Cup which starts next month. Advertisement World players' union FIFPRO has criticised the scheduling of the competition amid player welfare concerns and, along with Europe's domestic leagues organisation, has filed legal complaints against FIFA over a lack of consultation around the international match calendar. Despite that, Khaldoon insists the club are taking the competition seriously and treating it as the official start of next season rather than an extension of the current one. "This is a very, very serious competition. In the summer, the whole world will be watching this," he said. "A big number of the top teams in the world will be competing in this tournament and I can assure you, we're going to give it our best shot." smg/bsp
