UFC 316: Khaos Williams gets opponent change, faces newcomer Albert Tadevosyan
Khaos Williams was briefly without an opponent for next week's UFC 316. Williams (15-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) was originally scheduled to face Uros Medic at the pay-per-view event on June 7 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. However, Medic publicly announced his withdrawal from the fight due to a sinus infection. Luckily for Williams, things moved quickly in a search for a replacement welterweight opponent. Advertisement Stepping in for Medic will be UFC newcomer Albert Tadevosyan. MMA Junkie confirmed the news with two sources following a first report from Eurosport NL's Marcel Dorff. Williams will look to get back into the win column against an eager debutant. In his last outing, Williams suffered a submission loss against Gabriel Bonfim, halting the momentum of back-to-back victories against Rolando Bedoya and Carlston Harris. Williams has earned bonuses for all four of his UFC stoppage victories, which makes for an interesting dynamic against his new opponent, who is a proven finisher on the regional scene. Tadevosyan (13-3-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will make his UFC debut on very short notice. The 33-year-old welterweight is currently on a six-fight winning streak, which consists of five first-round finishes – the other was a second-round stoppage. Eleven of Tadevosyan's professional victories have come by knockout or submission. UFC Fight Night 251's Khaos Williams: Gabriel Bonfim 'just another person in the way'
Khaos Williams wants to send a message to the MMA world, and he plans on doing so against gifted striker Gabriel Bonfim. The two welterweights collide on the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 251, which is set to go down on Feb. 15 in Las Vegas. It's a fight many have circled as a potential Fight of the Night. Bonfim (16-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC), former LFA champion, enters the bout as a good favorite, yet Williams (15-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) expects to win and win convincingly. 'They're all the same to me, respectfully,' Williams told MMA Junkie Radio. 'As a fighter, you have to believe in yourself. I feel like they're all in my way. I'm a man on a mission. I'm a man on a mission. I'm going out here to make a statement because I know what I'm going to do and what I'm capable of doing. 'That's what I'm going to do. He's just another person in the way. They gave me a 16-1 test to complete in three weeks, and in three weeks, I'm going to let my actions speak for myself.' Williams is on a two-fight winning streak. His only two losses since joining the UFC have come against seasoned veterans Randy Brown and Michel Pereira. Williams has taken big lessons from those two defeats, and plans to show that come Feb. 15. 'I believe it is more so he IQ, just going in there with these guys, and I'm getting older and wiser and just taking a little bit from each fight,' Williams said. 'What I learned from the Michelle Pereira fight was pretty much dealing with adversity, and I just figured out more about myself. Also, don't leave it to the judges. Same with the Randy fight. I thought I did enough to win. In those fight you just can't leave it to the judges, you have to what you have to do. Just little things in those fights.'
