Shinas Port achieves record growth in trade, cargo handling

SHINAS: Shinas Port, one of Oman's key strategic maritime hubs located in Al Batinah North Governorate, has recorded significant growth in 2024, strengthening its role in national and international trade. Latest statistics reveal an impressive 41 per cent increase in the number of ships passing through the port, with a total of 707 vessels docking in the past year. The port also handled over 100,000 tonnes of goods, with a total trade value exceeding RO 11.5 million. Khater bin Ali al Maamari, Executive Director of Shinas Port, noted that the increase in cargo volume underscores the port's growing importance in facilitating economic activities across various sectors. He detailed the breakdown of imports, which reached 91,343 tonnes, including 21,665.98 tonnes of building materials, 4,083.07 tonnes of food products and 4,273.68 tonnes of general goods. The port also facilitated the import of 15,815 livestock animals, equivalent to 469 tonnes. Exports through Shinas Port totalled 11,676.12 tonnes, with major shipments comprising 461 tonnes of building materials, 33 tonnes of food items and 8,643 tonnes of general cargo. The port also recorded significant livestock exports, with 70,761 animals weighing approximately 2,133 tonnes.
