Rishi Kapoor's Secret Scene With Dimple Kapadia Left Neetu Singh Fuming In The Theatre
Rishi Kapoor began his career as a child actor in the film Mera Naam Joker (1970), for which he won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. He went on to star in numerous hit films after marriage. The success of Bobby (1973) catapulted Rishi Kapoor to fame and ensured a prosperous career. Following this film, he became a heartthrob for many young women who sent him love letters. His on-screen pairing with Dimple Kapadia was especially popular, sparking rumours that they were romantically involved. However, when Rishi Kapoor filmed a romantic scene with Dimple Kapadia once again, Neetu Singh was furious. Rishi Kapoor later revealed that many years into their marriage, Neetu Singh admitted she only felt threatened when he worked with Dimple Kapadia in Sagar (1985). He also hinted at an affair with Dimple Kapadia in his autobiography. In Khullam Khulla, Rishi Kapoor made several candid revelations about his life, including the time he and Dimple Kapadia were cast together in Sagar, which caused Neetu Singh great distress. They filmed many romantic scenes for the film, and during the premiere, Neetu Singh saw a kissing scene between them, shot without her knowledge, which deeply upset her. Rishi Kapoor wrote in his book that Neetu Singh need not have worried, as Dimple Kapadia was merely a friend. Despite the close bond they had formed during Bobby, ten years had passed; Dimple Kapadia was occupied with her own family matters, and Rishi Kapoor was settled with their two children. Their relationship was strictly professional.

Rishi Kapoor rejected THIS film, writers threatened to destroy his career like Rajesh Khanna, later the role was offered to…, his name is…, film was… After Deewar became a blockbuster, producer Gulshan Rai decided to make Trishul (1978) . Penned by prolific writing duo Salim-Javed, director Dulal Guha was initially going to make the action-thriller film with superstar Jeetendra. However, the film got cancel due to unknow reasons. Later on, the writers went to narrate the film to Yash Chopra, and he agreed to direct it. Interestingly, the role of Ravi portrayed by Sachin Pilgaonkar was first offered to Rishi Kapoor. He said no to the role, which made writers Salim-Javed furious, as no one had the audacity to say no to their films back then. When Rishi Kapoor said no to Salim-Javed's offer Rishi Kapoor, in his autobiography Khullam Khulla, mentioned that how Salim Khan got irked when he saw him at a hotel after he rejected to work in Trishul. He walked up to him, just to make him realise that he had made a mistake. Salim Khan even threatened to destroy his career. Rishi Kapoor wrote in his book, 'I was playing a game of snooker when Salim sa'ab walked over and asked me, 'How did you have the guts to refuse Salim–Javed?' Not one to be intimidated, I shot back, 'I didn't like the role.'' Rishi continued, 'Salim sa'ab boasted to me, 'Do you know that to this day nobody has said no to us? We can destroy your career.' Salim Khan threatened Rishi Kapoor 'He said, 'Who will work with you? You know, we had offered Zanjeer to Rajesh Khanna and he turned us down. We didn't do anything to him but we created an alternative to him, a hero called Amitabh Bachchan, who destroyed Rajesh Khanna. We will do the same to you.' Rishi added. However, he also mentioned that the rift gradually died soon. Helmed by Yash Chopra, Trishul featured an ensemble cast of Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Raakhee Gulzar, Poonam Dhillon, and Sachin Pilgaonkar with Waheeda Rehman in a special appearance. Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan were the most in-demand writing duo. They wrote 24 films together, of those 22 were hits. They even charged fees similar to the top actors, proving that a powerful script could attract audiences as much as the star power could.

In 1989, he appeared alongside one of India's biggest stars, Vinod Khanna, in the film Chandni, where he held his own and gave Khanna stiff competition. Dawood was highly impressed with Rishi Kapoor's performance in the 2013 film D-Day, which was picturised on him. After watching his performance, he then invited him over for a warm get-together. In his autobiography, Khullam Khulla, the late actor revealed about his two meetups with Dawood Ibrahim. The first happened in 1988, when he was in Dubai for 'Asha Bhosle-RD Burman night' and was spotted by Dawood's man at the airport. The guy than offered him his phone, saying, 'Dawood saab baat karenge (Dawood saab would like to speak to you).' He then invited Rishi Kapoor to his house. Dawood also discussed with him about the murder that he planned in the Mumbai court, an incident which later was shown in Sunny Deol's Arjun. Rishi Kapoor revealed in his autobiography that before leaving his house, Dawood told him, 'If you need anything at all, any money, anything, just feel free to ask me.' However, the actor refused. I don't know what made him go after my country the way he did. I have had no interaction with him at all after that chance meeting at the shoe shop.'

Last Updated: Rishi Kapoor had been involved in the film industry since childhood, but did you know that one of his roles left such a strong impression that Dawood Ibrahim became a fan Veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor, known for his charm and versatility, captivated the silver screen for decades, portraying roles ranging from romantic leads to emotionally complex characters. With a career spanning over 50 years, Kapoor became a beloved name not just in India but among cinema enthusiasts worldwide. While he delivered several iconic performances, one particular role in the mid-80s unexpectedly earned him a fan from an unlikely corner of society – the underworld. Debut With 'Bobby' The veteran actor made his debut with his father Raj Kapoor's film Bobby, opposite Dimple Kapadia, and became an overnight sensation and a beloved star in the industry. However, in 1985, he starred alongside Poonam Dhillon in a film that not only earned him critical acclaim but also sparked conversations about his popularity reaching into the underworld. Throughout his career, Rishi Kapoor romanced nearly every leading actress of his time and delivered numerous memorable films to Hindi cinema. He later chronicled his life and career in a book, aptly titled after the lyrics of one of his hit songs ' Khullam Khulla '. How Underworld Don Became a Fan Coming from a film family, Rishi Kapoor had been involved in the film industry since childhood. But did you know that one of his roles left such an impression that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim became a fan? Rishi Kapoor was not just a romantic icon from the 1970s through the 1990s—he also carved a space for himself among industry heavyweights like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha, and Vinod Khanna. In 1989, he appeared alongside Vinod Khanna in the film Chandni, where he held his own and gave Khanna stiff competition. Among Rishi Kapoor's many hit films, his performance in the 1985 film Tawaif stood out for an unusual reason and made underworld don Dawood Ibrahim his fan. Directed by BR Chopra, the film featured an ensemble cast including Rati Agnihotri, Poonam Dhillon, Ashok Kumar, Kader Khan, Deepak Parashar, Shashikala, Sushma Seth, Asrani, Shammi, Iftekhar, and Yunus Parvez. Kapoor revealed in his autobiography that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim was particularly fond of Tawaif, partly because his character in the film was also named Dawood. The actor mentioned in his book that he didn't understand what later caused Dawood Ibrahim to change so drastically and commit something as devastating as the Mumbai blasts. However, at that time, the don praised his performance enthusiastically and admired his work. First Published:
