Mamelodi Sundowns striker breaks silence on future amid exit talk

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Abubeker Nasir has confirmed he's in active discussions with Masadawana regarding his next move, with the striker making it clear that he's desperate to return to action, even if it means leaving Chloorkop. The Ethiopian forward has endured a frustrating spell in South African football. Last season, he didn't feature in any competitive matches during his loan stint at SuperSport United. The club de-registered him in January due to persistent injury setbacks. 'I'm at home training alone and without any pain on the ankle injury which made me not play,' Nasir said, as per Kick Off . 'Maybe I will go to another club. I don't know but I want to play football.' Nasir's time at Sundowns has failed to deliver the impact the club initially hoped for. Despite signing a five-year deal in January 2022, he has only managed 17 appearances and scored four goals. Sundowns sent him back to Ethiopian Coffee on loan for six months shortly after his arrival, hoping he would regain sharpness. However, his Chloorkop return has brought limited success. For all his promise, the 25-year-old appears to have tested the patience of the Sundowns technical team. The striker insists he's now fully fit and eager to prove himself. 'This season I want to play football and which team it is it doesn't matter,' he declared. 'We are in discussions with Sundowns because I'm now back in Johannesburg after spending time at home in Ethiopia during the off-season.' Despite his setbacks, Nasir still caught the eye during the March FIFA window. He started both of Ethiopia's World Cup qualifiers and netted three goals, showcasing the quality that once made him one of the most exciting prospects in East African football. Nasir remains under contract with Sundowns but has not rejoined the squad since their return to pre-season training last week. With competition stiff at Chloorkop and his injury history a lingering concern. A move elsewhere, permanent or loan, could offer the fresh start he craves. Sundowns now face a decision. Why Relebohile Mofokeng has not left Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates legend Steve 'Chippa' Lekoelea has given his thoughts on why Relebohile Mofokeng has yet to leave the club. The 20-year-old has attracted interest from teams abroad, but it appears that no official offer was made. His peer and former teammate Mohau Nkota has since left the Buccaneers for Saudi this pre-season. Lekoelea feels Mofokeng wants to preserve his relationship, hence he's not pushing for a move away from Orlando Pirates. 'It's a decision that will ultimately be made by Irvin Khoza and the club regarding whether they will allow him to play overseas,' Chippa said as per KickOff . 'Personally, I believe Rele wants to move abroad, especially since his friend Mohau Nkota has already signed with an overseas team. However, he's hesitant to push for a move because he doesn't want to damage his relationship with Orlando Pirates. I don't think he wants to burn any bridges. 'He understands the significance of Pirates as a major club, and they are committed to handling matters professionally. Before any deal is settled with interested teams, they want to ensure that both the club and Rele are satisfied. That's my opinion,' he said. 'We can claim that he is ready for overseas play, but the reality is that it always depends on a player's mental and physical fitness. The atmosphere abroad is quite different from that of local leagues. 'However, I believe in his talent; he is a good player. If given at least four games to adjust, overseas teams will truly see the best of him. 'I am confident that a wise decision will be made for the boy's future, ' Lekoelea said. Mofokeng has been with Orlando Pirates for their pre-season training in Spain, where they played four matches. The club has refuted claims that the Dutch side PSV were offering R100 million for the winger. Orlando Pirates news: Coach Ouaddou backed to surpass Riveiro

Orlando Pirates legend Edward Motale has thrown his support behind new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, boldly predicting that the Moroccan mentor will surpass the achievements of his predecessor, Jose Riveiro. Ouaddou takes over a finely-tuned club after Riveiro led Pirates to six finals and five trophies in three seasons. However, Motale believes the new man in charge brings something different. 'What I appreciate about him is that he has played the game at the highest level,' Motale told KickOff . 'So he understands what it takes to succeed in football.' Ouaddou's first official test will come in the MTN8 quarter-finals against Polokwane City. Riveiro famously won the competition in his debut season, and expectations are high that Ouaddou can repeat that feat. Motale, who captained Orlando Pirates to the 1995 CAF Champions League title, is encouraged by the squad Ouaddou is assembling. With ten signings made so far, competition is fierce across all positions. 'You can see that the coach believes in hard work and youth,' said Motale. 'He's done his research. The team he has put together will compete strongly this season.' The former Marumo Gallants coach was praised for the impact he had at the Limpopo-based club late last season. Despite joining with only five games remaining, he managed to steady the ship and gain respect from players and supporters alike. 'If he had arrived earlier, he would have done even better with them,' said Motale. 'He brought direction to that team.' With Ouaddou's vision, the depth of the squad, and a renewed sense of purpose, the Buccaneers are aiming to challenge for top honours. 'Orlando Pirates will definitely win the league this coming season,' Motale predicted. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Ex-PSL star Cheslyn Jampies: ‘I lost my car, sold my bed – just to stay afloat'

Owed money Former Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC defender Cheslyn Jampies says he's owed almost R1 million by the club after he was released in 2022. Photo: Sydney Mahlangu/BackpagePix Image: Sydney Mahlangu/BackpagePix Former Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC defender Cheslyn Jampies is desperate to be paid what he is owed after being released by the club as far back as 2022. He is reportedly owed almost R1 million by the club, which is no longer operating in professional football after being relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship. "I'm still waiting for that money, it's been almost three years now. Apparently, there are some positives, and I'm currently in Cape Town," Jampies said, as per KickOff. "There were discussions about me going to Durban City, but I don't know what happened; they never got back to me. I can't retire right now, I'm still young. I'm sure a lot of what is happening to me now is linked to my experience at TTM. There was no reason for it to go this far." Get your news on the go, click here to join the IOL News WhatsApp channel. Next Stay Close ✕ Jampies, currently without a club, detailed that he was now facing financial difficulties, but was fortunate his wife was making enough money to support their family. "It's clear that Lawrence Mulaudzi was not prepared to pay me. My car was repossessed, and I had to sell my bed, fridge, and TV just to get to Cape Town. It was a tough road. "I have some income here and there, and my wife has a very good job, so she is taking great care of us with her earnings.' As to whether he was ready to resume his career, Jampies said he was waiting for the issue with TTM to be resolved before moving on. "This has taken a significant toll on me. I had a promising career in football for 15 years, and Mulaudzi destroyed it in less than six months. "After what I've been through, what can I teach children who want to play football? I can't teach them to work hard behind the scenes when that hasn't helped me… The R750,000 is just one of the payments TTM were supposed to make – they actually owe me much more than that." Kabelo Mashego, the club's lawyer, had bad news for Jampies, and said that since the club was relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, they no longer existed as a professional entity, so there was no money to pay him what he's owed. "According to my knowledge, the club no longer exists,' said Mashego, according to KickOff. 'Unless it's operating somewhere in Limpopo. The club is no more, so it's one of those debts you must just write off. You can't just run after a non-existing club for damages. "Sometimes you must just accept. It's one of those things."
