RTD collects paltry RM56mil despite special offer on traffic summonses
KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has collected only a paltry RM56 million from 374,024 summonses issued under its special flat rate compound offer. The campaign, which began in January, aimed to encourage settlements by motorists who committed traffic offences. RTD senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the collection only represented around 20 per cent of the total outstanding summonses. A figure he described as still relatively low. The RM150 flat rate applies to camera-detected offences (like speeding), notices asking you to appear for questioning, and requests to confirm who was driving your vehicle during an offence. "This offer will end on June 30. "As of now, we have collected RM56 million, involving 374,024 summonses," Kifli said. He was speaking at a press conference held during the Special Motorcycle Operation in conjunction with the Aidiladha Road Safety Campaign (HRAA) along Jalan Kuala Krai here late last night. Kifli urged public not to miss the opportunity to settle their outstanding summonses at a reduced rate before the offer ends. "This initiative aims to encourage the public to clear their outstanding summonses at a lower rate. "Once the offer ends, the summonses will return to their original rates," he added.

RTD issues over 1.13 million summonses in major motorcycle crackdown
KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has issued a total of 1.13 million summonses for various offences under its Special Motorcycle Operation conducted from last year to date. RTD senior enforcement director, Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said of the total, 848,885 summonses were issued last year while 283,255 were recorded so far this year. Kifli said three main offences were identified during the operation — riding without a licence, expired road tax (LKM), and lack of insurance coverage. "For riding without a valid licence, we issued 301,774 summonses. Another 251,886 were for expired LKM and 233,819 for vehicles without insurance. "Motorcyclists still commit a high number of offences, and we are continuously stepping up enforcement efforts to curb road accidents. "This is important because motorcyclists account for 65 per cent of all road accident cases," he said. Kifli was speaking at a press conference during the Special Motorcycle Operation held in conjunction with Ops Khas Aidiladha (HRAA) at Jalan Kuala Krai here late last night. On the ongoing HRAA 2025 operation, he said more than 2,000 enforcement personnel had been deployed, with a focus on monitoring and taking action against motorcyclists who flout the rules. "We urge all motorcyclists to comply with the regulations," he said.

RTD probes lorry company involved in fatal FRU crash
KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has opened an investigation into the lorry company involved in a fatal collision with a Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) truck that claimed nine lives in Teluk Intan, Perak, on May 13. RTD senior enforcement director, Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the investigation paper is expected to be completed by the end of this month before being handed over to the deputy public prosecutor for further action. "The lorry has been seized and we have opened an investigation paper on the company that owns the lorry. The investigation is expected to take around a month. "Initial findings revealed violations that could lead to charges against the company for breaching permit conditions. "The lorry was transporting an unauthorised load. It was licensed to carry coal, but at the time of the accident, it was carrying gravel, which violated the permit conditions," he said. Kifli said the lorry company is being investigated under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715). He was speaking at a press conference during a special motorcycle operation under the Aidiladha Special Operation on Jalan Kuala Krai late last night. Nine FRU members died in the crash between the unit's truck and a gravel-laden trailer along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan on the morning of May 13. The deceased were S. Perumal, 44; Mohd Roslan Abd Rahim, 46; Mohd Pozli Jaudin, 41; Nurit A.K. Pandak, 34; Amiruddin Zabri, 38; Mohamad Hilmi Mohd Azlan, 38; Akmal Muhamad, 35; Damarrulan Abdul Latif, 33; and Akmal Wafi Annuar, 28.

[UPDATED] RTD launches crackdown on rogue lorry operators [WATCH]
SHAH ALAM: The Road Transport Department (RTD) is cracking down on lorry owners who knowingly operate vehicles without valid road tax, insurance or mandatory inspections. The department has begun recommending the suspension of operating licences for such companies, with offending lorries to have their permits revoked and potentially face ownership forfeiture. RTD Enforcement Division senior director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said these measures were being taken under the provisions of the Land Public Transport Act 2010. "To date, we have seized 135 vehicles under Section 80 of the Land Public Transport Act, involving cases in Selangor and Pahang. Of these, seven lorries have already been forfeited," he told reporters today at the Elmina RTD Enforcement Station. Section 80 of the Land Public Transport Act grants the power to seize relevant vehicles for certain offences and obtain forfeiture orders on these vehicles. Kifli said between 2019 and April this year, 513 companies have been recommended to have either their operating licences or vehicle permits suspended under the same Act. "We also issued 28 warnings to these companies during this period. "I also want to explain that in a bid to take stricter action against lorry drivers and their company owners who obstruct RTD personnel from conducting their duties during traffic checks, we will also open investigation papers under Section 234 of the same Act. "Those who commit an offence under this Section can face a maximum fine of RM200,000 or a maximum two years' imprisonment or both upon conviction," he said. Kifli also said they have initiated 17 investigation papers over commercial vehicles, including lorries which have been involved in accidents due to negligence or technical issues. "Of these IPs opened, 11 are still under investigation, three are currently being prosecuted and one has successfully been convicted. "Another IP is being reviewed by the deputy public prosecutor's office, while the remaining IP, involving a case in Rompin where a lorry crashed into a home, is awaiting a chemistry report as the driver was allegedly on drugs at the time," he said. Kifli said that the decision to take tougher action against errant lorries using all available laws in place was made following a string of accidents involving heavy vehicles, including the accident at Teluk Intan on May 13 which claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit personnel. "We will not compromise on the safety of road users and will take action against those who intentionally break the law," he said.
