RTD collects paltry RM56mil despite special offer on traffic summonses
KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has collected only a paltry RM56 million from 374,024 summonses issued under its special flat rate compound offer.
The campaign, which began in January, aimed to encourage settlements by motorists who committed traffic offences.
RTD senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the collection only represented around 20 per cent of the total outstanding summonses.
A figure he described as still relatively low.
The RM150 flat rate applies to camera-detected offences (like speeding), notices asking you to appear for questioning, and requests to confirm who was driving your vehicle during an offence.
"This offer will end on June 30.
"As of now, we have collected RM56 million, involving 374,024 summonses," Kifli said.
He was speaking at a press conference held during the Special Motorcycle Operation in conjunction with the Aidiladha Road Safety Campaign (HRAA) along Jalan Kuala Krai here late last night.
Kifli urged public not to miss the opportunity to settle their outstanding summonses at a reduced rate before the offer ends.
"This initiative aims to encourage the public to clear their outstanding summonses at a lower rate.
"Once the offer ends, the summonses will return to their original rates," he added.

JPJ seizes lorry, investigates company over permit breaches in fatal FRU crash in Teluk Intan
KOTA BHARU, June 6 —The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has opened an investigation paper against the lorry company involved in the fatal accident which took the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel in Teluk Intan, Perak, last month. JPJ senior director (enforcement) Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the investigation was being conducted under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010. 'JPJ has seized the lorry involved, and the investigating officer has been instructed to complete the investigation paper by the end of this month. 'Once completed, the investigation paper will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,' he told reporters after observing the Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha here last night. He said the initial investigation found that there was a violation of permit conditions involving the lorry company. 'The lorry company was found to have violated the permit conditions by carrying an unauthorised load, namely stones, while the permit approved was to transport coal. 'We are still investigating the case and appropriate action will be taken,' he said. On May 12, a lorry driven by a man collided with a truck carrying 18 FRU members on Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampan, Teluk Intan, while they were on their way back to Ipoh.
