Killarney's Gallivan Financial enters Dublin market through new acquisition

Killarney wealth management firm Gallivan Financial is to acquire Dublin-based Mount Street Group and Tralee-based Kelly O'Shea Pensions & Financial Services. Financial details of the acquisitions have not been disclosed, but the deal will increase Gallivan Financial's total assets under management (AUM) to more than €650m. With several additional deals currently in exclusivity, Gallivan is now on track to surpass €1bn in AUM by the end of this year. The acquisition of Mount Street brings Gallivan's business into the Dublin market for the first time. It was the company's third major transaction in the past two years. The acquisition of Kelly O'Shea Pensions & Financial Services, which was its fourth deal, strengthens its position in Kerry. In 2023, the firm acquired Vincent Casey Life & Pensions, a Killarney-based broker, adding €80m in AUM. This was followed by the acquisition of Limerick-based financial advisory firm FJ Hanly & Associates in September 2024, contributing an additional €100m. Mount Street Group currently manages more than €150m in assets, while Kelly O'Shea Pensions & Financial Services has €40m in assets under management. Gallivan Financial is majority-owned by the Gallivan family, who previously sold Gallivan Murphy Insurance Brokers (GMIB) to US-based Assured Partners in 2022 in a deal understood to be worth €100m. Gallivan Financial was not part of that transaction. Fergal Smith, Gallivan Financial Managing Director, said they were excited to welcome both firms. "Our integration plan is centred around continuity - clients will continue working with the same trusted advisors, while benefiting from the broader resources, technology, and expertise of our combined teams," he said. "We are continuing to look for further expansion opportunities, as we seek to expand Gallivan Financial into a very significant player in the growing Irish wealth management sector. We are currently in exclusive negotiations with a number of parties and are hopeful of closing further deals before the year-end.' Marie Ainsworth, founder of Mount Street, which has more than 500 clients, said they reached the point where a decision had to be made on how to develop the business further. "Our options came down to either expanding the business, which would require an investment of capital or, to look to partner with a suitable firm which can provide the resources required," she said. "After careful consideration, I decided to initiate a process to merge the business with a partner that shared our values and vision when it comes to how we treat our customers, and our standards of service." Kelly O'Shea Pensions & Financial Services Ltd was founded in 2006 and today, has 320 clients. Founder Aidan Kelly said: "After nearly two decades building a business grounded in trust and personal service, finding the right partner for the next chapter was incredibly important. From the outset, it was clear that Gallivan Financial shared our values and long-term commitment to clients.

Dr Crokes cancel All-Ireland homecoming as 'mark of respect' following death of Jamie Doolan

THE ALL-IRELAND homecoming event at the club of Kerry captain Gavin White has been cancelled following the death of former Dr Crokes player, Jamie Doolan. White lifted the Sam Maguire for the Kingdom on Sunday after a man-of-the-match display against Donegal in Croke Park. Advertisement The Dr Crokes club has cancelled the traditional captain's homecoming for White 'as a mark of respect' following the death of Jamie Doolan. The Killarney-based side has paid tribute to his memory, describing him as a 'brilliant underage player' while also honouring his contribution to management teams throughout his career. 'All in Dr. Crokes are shocked to hear of the untimely passing of our former player, minor selector and club member Jamie Doolan,' a statement on their Facebook page reads. 'Jamie was a brilliant underage player representing Dr. Crokes at all levels before turning his hand to management and he was involved in senior and minor management teams over the last number of years. 'A very knowledgeable selector who was very popular with all club members, Jamie will be sorely missed by his many friends in the club. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Doolan family in this difficult time. 'As a mark of respect tomorrow night's captain's homecoming to the Dr Crokes clubhouse will not be going ahead. May Jamie rest in peace.'

29.5-acre holding in Kerry dairying hotspot already under offer at €450,000

A 29.5-acre holding near Beaufort in Kerry is new to the market with Killarney-based agent Ken O'Sullivan. Located in a well-known dairying stronghold in the townland of Ahane, just under 3km from Beaufort village and 9km from Killarney, the property consists mainly of prime agricultural land. 'It's an excellent opportunity to acquire a land holding here,' says Mr O'Sullivan of the property. 'It's laid out in one block, mostly in one single field.' The holding has good road frontage on the road between Beaufort and Faha, and is suitable for several types of farming enterprise, according to the selling agents. It also boasts very fine views of the MacGillicuddy Reeks and the Gap of Dunloe. 'This is in a dry elevated location,' adds Mr O'Sullivan. 'And, there is also the ruin of an old building at the roadside.' Such an addition may prove to be of worth at some point in the future. For now, however, the main attraction is the land itself. According to the selling agents, there has been some strong interest, mainly from local sources. The price guide is a reasonable €450,000 (€15,000/acre) and there have already been offers.

Healy-Rae seeks injunction against 'serious and grave' publications

An application by Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and TD for Kerry Michael Healy-Rae against a former general election candidate and activist seeking to remove allegedly defamatory social media posts has been adjourned to next week. The defamation proceedings will be heard in the absence of defendant and respondent Michelle Keane, if she does not signal to the court her intention to contest the matter. This morning, the Circuit Civil Court in Tralee was told an interlocutory injunction was being sought to have "serious and grave" publications about Mr Healy-Rae removed. Barrister for Mr Healy-Rae, Elizabeth Murphy, instructed by Killarney solicitor Dan O'Connor, told the Circuit Civil Court in Tralee she was seeking "an injunction to restrain publication of a most grave and serious nature". This was a civil matter under the Defamation Act and the respondent Michelle Keane should be called, Ms Murphy said at the outset. The objective was to take down and restrain further allegations and she was seeking an interlocutory injunction, Ms Murphy said. Ms Keane usually represents herself and the civil bill had been served by e-mail over the bank holiday weekend, the barrister said. However, Judge Ronan Munro said he would prefer if the proceedings and notice of the injunction being sought was served by the Killarney-based solicitor to Ms Keane's address in Knocknagoshel to notify her that he would deal with the matter at 2pm. Ms Keane had electronic gates, Ms Murphy advised the court. Solicitor Dan O'Connor then proceeded to Knocknagoshel to serve the papers by hand. If necessary the envelope is to be placed behind the electronic gates of Ms Keane's residence, Judge Munro said. When the case resumed at 2pm, Ms Keane was again called and she was not in court. Ms Murphy outlined specific allegations about Mr Healy-Rae, which she said were made by Ms Keane and were defamatory. Ms Keane "self-publishes" on social media, the barrister told the court. The suit is under Section 33 of the Defamation Act 2009 and the specific allegations referred to in court cannot be repeated. The barrister said she was seeking an order "to remove all posts accusing her client of illegality or immorality and to stop doing it,". The proceedings being sought were very rapid and he was concerned with the speed, Judge Munro said. He asked if the papers could not be served on Ms Keane personally. Judge Munro adjourned the matter to Tuesday at 2pm. Mr Healy-Rae's legal team is to seek to serve notice on Ms Keane personally, and also by registered post and otherwise and electronically that the proceedings are listed for court on Tuesday and are to advise her that the matter will proceed in her absence if she is not there.
