Owensboro Burger Week concludes with record-breaking totals
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — The record-breaking Owensboro Burger Week may be over, but the festivities continue. Two awards were handed out to the best of the best in the competition. After blind tasting 49 burgers, the judge's choice champion is the 'Smoked Cretzel Burger' from Niko's Bakery. Owner Matt Weafer says the croissant-pretzel hybrid takes four days to prepare, leading to sold out burgers every day. For a second year in a row, Kim's Diner won the people's choice award for its 'Sweet and Spicy Bacon Jammy Burger.' Owner Kim Roberson says she is already planning a dedication for next year's burger to a lost loved one. Dave Kirk, with Visit Owensboro, is one of the masterminds behind the annual tradition. He says although the event was initially designed to bring people back to local restaurants, it has only gotten bigger and 'beefier' each year. The event has brought in many hungry customers as over 60,000 burgers were sold during this year's competition and over half a million dollars spent on featured burgers alone. 2025 Owensboro Burger Week winners announced
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — After a 9-day competition, the winners of the 2025 Owensboro Burger Week have been announced. What started in 2021 as a way to bring support back to local restaurants following the COVID-19 pandemic, has become an annual tradition with more participants each year. Behind-the-scenes look at select restaurants during Burger Week Throughout the week, a panel of burger experts taste test each entry to determine the overall champion. Previous winners include J's Good Grub, Basil's Food Truck and Windy Hollow Biscuit House. The 2025 Burger Week winner is the 'Smoked Pimento Cretzel Burger' from Niko's Bakery and Café. This burger is served on a house-made combination of a croissant and a pretzel, with smoked pimento cheese, sweet picked peppers and fresh lettuce. In 2024, a people's choice award was introduced which allowed local foodies a chance to award their favorite burger in the competition. The first people's choice winner was Kim's Diner. Holding the crown for another year, the 2025 German American People's Choice winner is the 'Sweet and Spicy Bacon Jammy Burger' from Kim's Diner. The burger is described as a double-bacon burger with pepper jack cheese, topped with a sweet and spicy bacon jam. Burger week begins in Owensboro
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The annual Burger Week tradition kicked off in Owensboro on Friday. Each participating restaurant has created their own custom burger specifically for the competition. While this annual competition is normally set for 7 days, hungry customers can enjoy these burger creations for 9 days this year. Last day to get a taste of the burgers is on March 15. While a panel of 'burger experts' blind taste the entries to determine a winner, customers can also vote for their favorite burger to win the people's choice prize. The 2024 German American Bank People's Choice Winner was Kim's Diner. Previous Burger Week champions include J's Good Grub, Basil's Food Truck, Windy Hollow Biscuit House, Dee's Diner and O'Bryan's Bar & Grill.
