Kennedy Center denies report of falling subscriptions under Trump

The Kennedy Center denied a Tuesday report from The Washington Post alleging it saw a 36 percent decline in sales subscriptions after President Trump asserted control over the cultural center in February. Senior Vice President of Marketing Kim Cooper said the center has consolidated subscription packages and will begin promoting new performance packages in the coming weeks. Cooper told The Hill, 'earlier this year, and for the first time ever in Kennedy Center history, we launched a brand-new option that lets subscribers mix and match genres within a single subscription — a subscription only the Kennedy Center can offer given our breadth of programming.' She said subscribers requested the feature, and it would allow them to have more 'choice' and flexibility.' The Post reported the Kennedy Center's revenue was down more than $1.5 million, even with that factored in. As of June last year, the center had generated $4,413,147 in revenue from selling subscriptions to its theater, dance, classical and other seasons of performances, according to the Post. This year, it had generated $2,656,524 as of June 1, plus $155,243 from a new mix-and-match package, the outlet reported. In February, President Trump ousted the center's board members and named himself chair of the world-renowned performing arts complex. Days after the announcement, celebrities began canceling shows at the venue, and some excused themselves from leadership on the board. Richard Grenell, interim director of the Kennedy Center, described the cancellations as a 'publicity stunt' and went on to strike programs touting LGBTQ artists from the scheduled list of performers. 'I want to make sure it runs properly. We don't need woke at the Kennedy Center, and we don't need — some of the shows were terrible. They were a disgrace that they were even put on,' Trump said in February. 'So I'll be there until such time that it is running right,' he added. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. After Trump Takeover, Kennedy Center Ticket Sales Fall Sharply

Ticket sales and subscription revenue at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts have fallen sharply since President Trump made himself chairman in February, according to data compiled by employees that was obtained by The New York Times. Single-ticket sales were down roughly 50 percent in April and May, compared with the same period in 2024, according to the data. Subscriptions, traditionally an important source of revenue, have also declined significantly this season: Revenue was down 82 percent for theater and 57 percent for dance. At the National Symphony Orchestra, one of the Kennedy Center's flagship ensembles, subscriptions declined by 28 percent, the data showed. At Washington National Opera, subscriptions were down 25 percent. In total, subscription revenue was projected at $2.7 million in the coming fiscal year, compared with $4.4 million this year. The numbers were confirmed by a Kennedy Center employee, who was granted anonymity because the information was considered confidential. The Kennedy Center disputed the relevance of the data on Tuesday, saying the center had changed some aspects of how it marketed and structured subscriptions recently, including by starting its campaign later than usual. 'Our renewal campaign is just kicking off and our hard-copy season brochures have not yet hit homes,' Kim Cooper, the Kennedy Center's senior vice president of marketing, said in a statement. 'Our patrons wait for our new season brochures and renewal campaigns to take action.' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Take a look inside this South African game reserve with 28 bedroom suites which could be yours for £9.7m

A private game reserve in Karoo, South Africa is up for sale for £9,774,882, or around $13,000,000, via Sotheby's International Realty. Magic Hills is a privately owned game reserve stretching around 40,000 acres, with the furthest ends of the property reaching into both the western and northern Cape. The expansive reserve has a number of on-site accommodation options for guests, including 28 bedroom suites across five luxurious lodges. Across the different accommodation hubs, the site has 28 bathrooms, 17 reception rooms and two kitchens. The buyer of the reserve will be living in close quarters to the Big Five - lions, leopards, black rhino, elephants and buffalo. Merino sheep, Angora goats and dairy cattle are also raised on site and the property offers visitors panoramic vistas and plains. As well as offering guests envy-inducing luxury, conservation remains a priority on the reserve. Some of the animals in the reserve have been repatriated from zoos. One of the most breath-taking options for accommodation on the reserve is Sky Lodge, which sits 980 metres above sea-level. Sky Lodge has seven bedroom suites, a large living room with hardwood floors, a bar and a pool and terrace to soak up the views and wildlife from. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors provide panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Internally, Sky Lodge had been decorated in tones of brown and beige, in keeping with the outdoor setting. Kim Cooper, a real estate professional at Sotheby's International Realty, said: 'Sky lodge is surely one of the most stunning lodges on the continent.' Magic Hills is also home to ILanga Manor House, a traditional lodge with Cape Dutch architecture, 10 bedroom suites, a pool, library and lush green lawns. Elsa's Farmhouse, a restored off-grid four-bedroom solar-panelled lodge, also comes with the site. Laid-back Elsa's Farmhouse has its own private pool and boma area. Wow factor: Sky Lodge has a luxurious but laid-back vibe with neutral interiors Views: The buyer of Magic Hills will enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area Before coming under new ownership, the site was previously used for hunting and farmland. The reserve is now owned by Erik and Alexandra Kovacs, who have spent more than a decade bringing the overgrazed and degraded former farmland back to life, at a cost of over £8million. The Karoo, which is around a 90-minute helicopter ride from Cape Town, is a rural, semi-arid mountainous area reportedly boasting some of the most unique flora and fauna on the continent. Marketing firm JamesEdition said it had seen the highest interest for Magic Hills from prospective buyers in the US and South Africa, but added that interest from potential buyers in Britain had also been strong. How to find a new mortgage Borrowers who need a mortgage because their current fixed rate deal is ending, or they are buying a home, should explore their options as soon as possible. Quick mortgage finder links with This is Money's partner L&C > Mortgage rates calculator > Find the right mortgage for you What if I need to remortgage? Borrowers should compare rates, speak to a mortgage broker and be prepared to act. Homeowners can lock in to a new deal six to nine months in advance, often with no obligation to take it. Most mortgage deals allow fees to be added to the loan and only be charged when it is taken out. This means borrowers can secure a rate without paying expensive arrangement fees. Keep in mind that by doing this and not clearing the fee on completion, interest will be paid on the fee amount over the entire term of the loan, so this may not be the best option for everyone. What if I am buying a home? Those with home purchases agreed should also aim to secure rates as soon as possible, so they know exactly what their monthly payments will be. Buyers should avoid overstretching and be aware that house prices may fall, as higher mortgage rates limit people's borrowing ability and buying power. How to compare mortgage costs The best way to compare mortgage costs and find the right deal for you is to speak to a broker. This is Money has a long-standing partnership with fee-free broker L&C, to provide you with fee-free expert mortgage advice. Interested in seeing today's best mortgage rates? Use This is Money and L&Cs best mortgage rates calculator to show deals matching your home value, mortgage size, term and fixed rate needs. Remarkable Women nominee: Kim Cooper

FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Every year, WTWO holds a Remarkable Women's contest. Among this year's nominees is Kim Cooper. She's the Dean of Nursing at Ivy Tech Terre Haute and Greencastle. 2024 Remarkable Women Winner Cooper is an Indiana State University graduate. She says she began her career 35 years ago at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She loved working there, but then had a child and wanted better hours that did not require working nights and weekends. So, she applied for an instructor's position at Ivy Tech. 'My short range plan was to come here and I was going to stay 3 to 4 years. My daughter would go to preschool or to school and I would go back to acute care,' said Kim Cooper. 2023 Remarkable Women winner Cooper said she's now been at Ivy Tech 25 years. Over those years, Cooper has helped the Ivy Tech nursing program on the two campuses grow. Besides overseeing the nursing programs, she's also been appointed by three Indiana governors to serve on the Indiana Nursing Board. She says it's an honor to be nominated as a Remarkable Woman. 'It's something I would have never expected. I think I'm a lucky person. I think I'm living a blessed life,' added Cooper. The winner of WTWO's Remarkable Women's contest goes on to the station's parent company, Nexstar Broadcasting's, national contest. It includes a free trip to Los Angeles and a $1,000 donation to a charity of the winner's choice. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
