Palm Springs police arrest 17-year-old boy for stabbing near VillageFest in downtown
Palm Springs police arrested a Desert Hot Springs teenage boy suspected of a stabbing that occurred in downtown Palm Springs during the VillageFest street fair Thursday.
Officers responded to a reported stabbing around 6:15 p.m. in the 100 block of West Tahquitz Canyon Drive, by the parking lot to the west of the Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs Hotel. They found a a victim, which police only identified as a "male juvenile," at the scene with stab wounds that were not life-threatening.
Witnesses told officers that "several male juveniles" fought on the street before moving to continue in the underground parking structure, the police department said. Police said a victim was stabbed with "an unidentified edged weapon" during the fight. A second suspect possibly brandished a gun.
The police department later discovered a second victim, also only identified as a male juvenile, at the hospital with a stab wound that was not life-threatening.
Authorities arrested a 17-year-old in connection with stabbing the first victim, the police department said. The police department is continuing its investigation into the altercation and asked anyone with information to contact Detective Javier Carrillo by emailing or calling 760-323-8136.
