‘Wasted a whole trip to Palatka:' Some Blue Crab Festival guests mad about pricey food, no carnival

Many attending the Blue Crab Festival in Palatka last weekend were 'shell-shocked' and disappointed with this year's event. They said the annual three-day festival featured high food prices, fewer vendors, and no carnival like they had in previous years. The Palatka Blue Crab Festival is an annual tradition, and has been for nearly 30 years. However, this year some festival goers were left disappointed with this year's event. 'It made me feel like I wasted a whole trip to Palatka,' festival attendee Andie Dann said. 'I'm wondering if I'm going to attend, you know, next year or any years, you know, after this one.' Dann has been attending the Palatka Blue Crab Festival for 20 years. Some of the complaints she and other people had were about the high food prices. 'This is a small-town festival. We don't need big city prices,' Dann said. Larissa Ricketts-Owens owns Modern Reality in downtown Palatka. She has been attending the festival for years, and was shocked to see how expensive the food was this year. 'I got one of the lobster rolls from the one of the food trucks down by the band shell, and it was $39 for a lobster roll that literally had four pieces of lobster on it with a stale bun,' Ricketts-Owens said. Another photo sent to Action News Jax shows a King Crab leg an attendee purchased at the festival over the weekend. They said it cost them $50. For the last four years, the festival has been produced by Ancient City Entertainment. The City of Palatka is one of the festival's main sponsors. Eddie Cutwright is the Community Affairs Director for the City of Palatka. He says the city had no role in determining the prices. 'The city was not in charge of anything that had to do with the event,' Cutwright said. 'We just help her (Ancient City Entertainment) with staffing and also blocking off roads for the event. Any vendors, anything that came through that area was placed and reserved spots through her.' I worked very hard to bring in national acts and include new amusements and vendors. 'I've worked alongside the City of Palatka for 4 years to execute this project. Each year, they have made significant funding cutbacks and had a staggering administrative employment turnover rate that had disproportionately affected the success of the event. 'This year, specifically, the City of Palatka chose to make some very distinct changes regarding the footprint of the festival to appease the merchants of St. Johns Ave. This moved paying vendors to a marina space where we had previously booked a carnival in years past. They chose not to move forward with the carnival. They also voted to not allocate any marketing dollars to the event this year from The Tourism Development Council, which has been crucial in the past for the implementation of success in driving visitors to their flagship and largest tourism event of the year. 'After trying for 8 months to get them to approve a contract, they finally decided on a minimal effort approach. 'To put it mildly, we are disappointed in the partnership renewal contract that was decided by City of Palatka commissioners, but would love to acknowledge the hard work of the sanitation workers, parks and recreation, and festival workers and organizers who are the actual boots on the ground. Best, Jeanetta Cebollero [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] In regard to the carnival and footprint changes referenced in Ancient City Entertainment's statement, Wright said that a conversation was had between them about the decision. 'Other than the foot traffic of bringing it down to 4th Street, that was a common conversation that we had early on as a group. And that was just to try to accommodate some things when we said we was not bringing, when she said, and we agreed that they was not bringing the carnival back because we had some issues with the carnival last year. But that's how that foot track got smaller. But as far as vendors and everything of that nature, that's all the coordinator's responsibility,' Cutwright said. GM Adds Power, Tech, and Special Editions to the 2026 Hummer EV

"Subtle" was never a word that described any generation of the Hummer. The electrified version doesn't deviate, weighing in at nearly five tons, making a whopping 1,000 horsepower, and measuring a tremendous 18 feet from tip to tail. Apparently, GM decided that the Hummer EV simply wasn't crazy enough, juicing the EV with a mixture of special features and added performance that make it even more ludicrous for 2026. GM improved the 2026 Hummer EV truck and SUV with some truly cool features. Bidirectional charging is one of the most pragmatic additions, allowing the Hummer EV to charge other EVs or power a home via its own power supplies. It's a niche, but certainly a useful tool to have. Super Cruise gets a few improvements, too, making small steps forward in how the truck's radar cruise control tracks vehicles in front of the driver. Smoother integration with Google Maps adds lane-specific guidance, and drivers now have the option of having the truck automatically adjust cruising speed for the posted speed limit. Two new paint colors - Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte - are available, joining new interior colors dubbed Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse. Of course, there are a few decidedly more fun changes for the 2026 Hummer EV, too. GM upped the output for the Hummer EV 3X pickup to 1,160 horsepower, an increase of 160 horsepower relative to the 2025 model year. In a comment to Motor1, GM says the bump in performance is exclusive to the body style and was accomplished by "optimization of software and propulsion calibration." As a result, the truck can now scoot from zero to 60 mph in a manufacturer-estimated 2.8 seconds. That's two-tenths of a second quicker than the outgoing model. Finally, a Carbon Fiber Edition, available on either body style, joins the lineup. It adds special Magnus Gray matte paint, Velocity Ember upholstery, unique 22-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, black emblems, and some carbon fiber accents. The 2026 Hummer EV debuts a new King Crab drive mode, a rear-wheel steering mode designed to specifically enhance the truck's maneuverability in off-road settings. The automaker says that King Crab mode allows the rear wheels to turn "significantly faster" than the front ones, adding to the truck's off-road versatility. Apparently, GM will push this new drive mode to all GMC Hummer pickup and SUV models on the road via an over-the-air update coming later in the year. King Crab will occupy the "Mystery Mode" button, which GM used to tease "future possibilities." Lots to unpack here, but King Crab being offered to all Hummer EV owners is perhaps the most notable takeaway. It's a real-world illustration of automotive software's flexibility and certainly paints a picture of what's possible in the future. While hardly necessary, more power and a special edition are welcome additions that are certain to entice a steady stream of buyers as the Hummer EV ages. Pricing and range details will follow later in the year. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

GMC Unveils New 1,160 HP HUMMER EV Carbon Fiber Edition

Summary GMChas revealed the 2026HUMMER EVlineup, now sharper, quicker and more capable than ever. Leading the updates is King Crab, a new rear-steering mode that significantly enhances off-road agility. Available on all 2X and 3X trims, the feature turns the rear wheels faster than the front for greater maneuverability — ideal for tight trails or rock crawling. It will also roll out via OTA update to all 2022–2025 HUMMER EVs. Also debuting is the HUMMER EV Carbon Fiber Edition, the brand's quickest ever. With 0–60 mph acceleration in just 2.8 seconds, it combines speed with bespoke style, including matte Magnus Gray paint, black carbon fiber wheels and a Velocity Ember interior. Tech updates include bidirectional charging (vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home), improved Super Cruise integration with Google Maps, adaptive cruise control upgrades and a 13.4-inch infotainment screen powered by Google Built-In and OnStar. The 2026 HUMMER EV 3X Pickup delivers up to 1,160 hp and 13,000 lb-ft of torque, along with improved damper tuning for a smoother ride. Two new exterior colors — Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte — join the lineup, as well as two fresh interior themes. Production is set to begin later this year at GM's Factory ZERO in Michigan, with availability at GMC EV dealers expected shortly after, with pricing yet to be announced at the time of writing.

2026 GMC Hummer EV Looks to Be Quicker and More Agile Off-Road

The 2026 GMC Hummer EV pickup and Hummer EV SUV add bidirectional charging to transfer energy from the vehicle to another EV or your home. There's a new off-road drive mode called King Crab that spins the rear wheels faster than the fronts and uses rear-wheel steering to improve agility. A new Carbon Fiber Edition adds, well, carbon-fiber trim but also drops the claimed zero-to-60-mph time to just 2.8 seconds for this 9000-pound beast. While the GMC Hummer EV is powered by electrons instead of a big V-8 like the Hummer H2 of the 2000s, it is undeniably a Hummer: colossal, braggadocious, and inefficient. For 2026, GMC is doubling down on the over-the-top Hummer vibe with a series of new features. The 2026 GMC Hummer EV—still available as a pickup truck and SUV—gains a new King Crab off-road mode, a blingy Carbon Fiber Edition, and bidirectional charging capability. GMC The new Carbon Fiber Edition comes exclusively in Magnus Gray Matte paint. You have likely seen the GMC "Push the Button" television advertisements showing off Crab Walk mode in the Hummer EV and Sierra EV, where the electric trucks utilize the rear-wheel steering system to drive diagonally at low speeds. Now, GMC is finding further use for rear-wheel steering with the new King Crab mode, which purports to improve off-road agility. This content is imported from Third party. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. The King Crab mode makes the rear wheels turn notably faster than the front wheels, which GMC says leads to "more maneuverability when navigating tight spaces off-road." It's unclear if there are any other changes that GMC made to create this drive mode, but it is described as "software-enabled" and will also be available later this year to owners of 2022–'25 Hummer EVs via an over-the-air update. GMC The Carbon Fiber Edition wears Velocity Ember accents on the interior. For 2026, GMC also adds a new Carbon Fiber Edition to both Hummer body styles, though it's reserved for the EV3X model. All examples of this special model will feature exclusive Magnus Gray Matte paint and a Velocity Ember interior, along with all-terrain tires and black emblems; the pickup has a black power tonneau cover. Despite the name, GMC was fairly reserved with the application of carbon-fiber trim, with the lightweight material appearing on the special 22-inch wheels, side mirrors, and skid plate. The Carbon Fiber Edition should also be the quickest Hummer EV yet, with GMC claiming a zero-to-60-mph sprint of 2.8 seconds. That's 0.5 second quicker than the Hummer EV pickup we tested; the SUV was a tenth slower. The improvement is said to come from optimized software and newly calibrated hardware. GMC says production of the Carbon Fiber Edition will be limited, but it didn't provide a specific number of units. GMC The Granite Drift exterior color, seen here, is new for 2026. Along with those flashy add-ons, the 2026 Hummer EV gains a practical feature in bidirectional charging, allowing the Hummer EV to send energy to another compatible vehicle or a compatible home in the event of a blackout. GMC also enhanced the Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance system, with the automatic lane-change feature now able to sync up with your route when using the Hummer EV's built-in navigation system. GMC also says it retuned the Hummer EV's dampers to improve ride quality, and there are two new exterior paint hues (Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte) along with two new interior colors (Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse). Production of the 2026 Hummer EV will start later this year, but pricing is yet to be announced. We expect costs to rise slightly from the 2025 model's $99,045 base price. The Hummer EV can navigate tight spaces with new King Crab rear steering

We weren't that impressed with the Hummer EV when it first came out — too big, too expensive, and crazy inefficient — but we did appreciate the novelty of the Crab Walk feature that let the massive truck rotate all four wheels to drive diagonally at low speeds. Our reviewer, Emme Hall, called it 'the weirdest sensation' and 'a good party trick.' Now, for the updated 2026 model year, the Hummer EV is getting even more crablike. The feature is now called 'King Crab,' and it allows for even more maneuverability than before. At low speeds, King Crab turns the rear wheels slightly faster than the front wheels, enabling the hulking Hummer to dart in between boulders or through a narrow copse of trees. GMC says it will ship the 2026 Hummer, both pickup and SUV, with the new feature. Existing owners will get it through an over-the-air software update later this year. The feature is the result of GMC's putting the call out to Hummer EV owners for 'epic' software update ideas. The automaker is also releasing a new limited carbon fiber edition of the truck and SUV with improved performance. With a new 24-module battery, the carbon fiber edition will accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. (The original model was able to sprint to that speed in three seconds.) The 2026 Hummer is now getting bidirectional charging capabilities, meaning it can send power out from its battery to another EV or even a home. And it comes with enhanced Super Cruise, allowing drivers to automatically change lanes when the vehicle's built-in map is being used.
