Is Howard Stern Show canceled? What we know about Howard Stern contract with Sirius

Speculation that Howard Stern was fired from SiriusXM and "The Howard Stern Show" canceled have caught fire online as listeners believe the veteran shock jock's decades-long show has come to an end. New York City's self-proclaimed "King of All Media," Stern began his career as a radio host in the 1980s before a move to Sirius satellite radio in 2006, earning him a spot as one of the world's highest-paid entertainers. But rumors in the media have all but declared Stern's show has been axed; but is it true? Here's what we know. Who is Howard Stern? How old is he? Howard Stern is a 71-year-old veteran shock jock and is among the world's highest paid radio hosts on SiriusXM satellite radio. Stern has 45 years of on-air experience in traditional radio, including a 20-year run on New York City's WXRK, where his show became nationally syndicated. The show could be heard on Philadelphia's WYSP-94.1 FM from 1986-2006, at which time he had a well-publicized rivalry with John DeBella of WMMR-93.3's Morning Zoo. Stern beat DeBella in the ratings war. Ironically, DeBella left MMR and landed at WYSP with Stern in 1994 with an afternoon slot. Stern moved over to Sirius satellite radio in 2006, and extended his contract with SiriusXM twice, in 2010 and the latest in 2020 with a five-year $500 million deal, Forbes reported. Stern once had a rest stop in New Jersey named after him. In 1993, Stern urged his listeners to elect Christie Todd Whitman as NJ governor, and after she was elected, she joked she would "christen" the Interstate 295 rest stop after him. Workers installed a plaque at the rest stop in March 1995, although it was stolen within days and mailed to Stern, according to this archived article from the Philly Inquirer. The rest stop closed in 2003. Is the Howard Stern Show canceled? "The Howard Stern Show" has not officially been canceled as of Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025. Although Stern's contract with SiriusXM is nearing its end, Stern nor SiriusXM have confirmed the show is coming to an end. On Aug. 5, The U.S. Sun reported Stern's contract is up in the fall, and while Sirius plans to extend him an offer, he doesn't plan to take it. The publication only cited unnamed sources in their reporting. Stern, they reported, would "likely cut some sort of deal" for Sirius to keep his catalogue upon his exit. Did Sirius cancel Howard Stern Show? As of Aug. 7, SiriusXM has not announced they are canceling "The Howard Stern Show," nor has Stern said so himself.
