Bournemouth Sports secure survival and continue fine form with Maidenhead win
BOURNEMOUTH Sports confirmed their National League Division One South West status for another season with a 1-0 win over Maidenhead United.
With their three points, and results elsewhere, Sports moved up to ninth in the league, Portishead Town in the relegation zone now unable to catch them with two games to play in the season.
The win continued an excellent run of form from Sports that has dragged them clear of the relegation battle, winning three and drawing two of their past five league fixtures and completing an unbeaten March.
It was a steady start to the game at New Milton, as both sides felt their way into the game, with a couple of half-chances for the hosts, Hollie Shaw volleying wide from the edge of the box after 16 minutes.
Katie Kingshott had her first effort on goal three minutes later, but it was well covered by the Maidenhead keeper.
On the half an hour mark, Kingshott had a go from 40 yards and saw her effort go just past the top left corner, as neither side was able to break the deadlock in the first half.
Emily Phillips shot wide four minutes into the second half, before Jasmine Hughes headed a corner over the bar.
Maidenhead struck the crossbar from a free kick after 63 minutes, Sports able to clear, before Kelly-Marie Fripp saw a Sports free kick caught by the keeper.
Shaw fired over the bar before Kingshott had a shot blocked as Sports sought to pile on the pressure, and that pressure got its rewards with ten minutes left of the 90.
It was lovely build up play involving Millia Lewis and Hughes, the latter playing in Rosie Eden, who cut the ball back for Shaw to finish to give Sports the lead.
Maidenhead sought an equaliser but Sports held firm to win and confirm their survival in the league.
