Bournemouth Sports secure survival and continue fine form with Maidenhead win
BOURNEMOUTH Sports confirmed their National League Division One South West status for another season with a 1-0 win over Maidenhead United.
With their three points, and results elsewhere, Sports moved up to ninth in the league, Portishead Town in the relegation zone now unable to catch them with two games to play in the season.
The win continued an excellent run of form from Sports that has dragged them clear of the relegation battle, winning three and drawing two of their past five league fixtures and completing an unbeaten March.
It was a steady start to the game at New Milton, as both sides felt their way into the game, with a couple of half-chances for the hosts, Hollie Shaw volleying wide from the edge of the box after 16 minutes.
Katie Kingshott had her first effort on goal three minutes later, but it was well covered by the Maidenhead keeper.
On the half an hour mark, Kingshott had a go from 40 yards and saw her effort go just past the top left corner, as neither side was able to break the deadlock in the first half.
Emily Phillips shot wide four minutes into the second half, before Jasmine Hughes headed a corner over the bar.
Maidenhead struck the crossbar from a free kick after 63 minutes, Sports able to clear, before Kelly-Marie Fripp saw a Sports free kick caught by the keeper.
Shaw fired over the bar before Kingshott had a shot blocked as Sports sought to pile on the pressure, and that pressure got its rewards with ten minutes left of the 90.
It was lovely build up play involving Millia Lewis and Hughes, the latter playing in Rosie Eden, who cut the ball back for Shaw to finish to give Sports the lead.
Maidenhead sought an equaliser but Sports held firm to win and confirm their survival in the league.

NBA Trade Rumors Buzzing Around 76ers Ahead of Draft
NBA Trade Rumors Buzzing Around 76ers Ahead of Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia 76ers were rewarded with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft lottery after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2018. On paper, the 76ers had one of the best star trios in Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey. However, injuries prevented the team from reaching its true potential in their first year together. Advertisement Because they secured a top-three pick for the upcoming draft, the Sixers can do two things with it. The organization could either use the pick and draft a young prospect or trade for additional assets. Using the latter would strengthen their roster and give them more depth to contend for a championship. Philadelphia 76ers president of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey speaks with the Streicher-Imagn Images According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, there's a belief among some league executives that the 76ers will trade back ahead of the draft. "NBA teams are pondering what the Sixers will do in the upcoming draft. Regardless of what Daryl Morey states publicly, some league executives believe trade-back talks could occur before the draft," Pompey posted on X. "One executive said a couple of teams behind the Sixers in the draft are doing heavy research on the possibility of moving up to No. 3." The Sixers have enough star power to make noise and be championship contenders. However, injuries have prevented the team from asserting dominance and reaching a certain level of power in the NBA. Advertisement Using the pick could be a safer bet for the Sixers since it would secure the team's future. That is if they potentially move on from Embiid and trade George with his $212 million contract. Former Nets Executive Reveals Downside of Trading Joel Embiid
Former Nets Executive Reveals Downside of Trading Joel Embiid originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There have been questions regarding the future of Joel Embiid with the Philadelphia 76ers. Last season, Embiid's injuries piled up and prevented him from playing at least 20 games. He was limited to 19 games and was shut down after the 2025 All-Star break. Advertisement With that, there have been talks about potentially trading Embiid and starting anew. The injuries have prevented the star center from contributing significantly recently, but he's still one of the best players when healthy. Heading into the offseason, many believe the Sixers are exploring the possibility of trading Embiid. However, a former league executive presented the disadvantage Philly could experience. Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid looks on after the game against the Milwaukee Ross-Imagn Images Former Brooklyn Nets general manager Billy King revealed his thoughts on the Sixers' matter. According to King, he thinks the organization might not get a lot in return for Embiid, given that he's often injured. Advertisement "The hardest thing is knowing that when Joel is healthy, he's one of the best players in the league. Everybody's going to say, 'Well, he's never healthy.' But the thing about it is, when you trade him, you're never getting players of equal value,' King said on 94WIP. King added that the Sixers should pursue players who are more athletic to surround Embiid. The former executive said that the franchise should have 6-foot-8 players around the 2023 MVP. The Sixers have not decided what to do with Embiid. However, they've hinted in the past that they're committed to the Cameroonian big man and the star players they've acquired to help him.
