Six-year-old child killed in deadly Opelika crash, investigation ongoing

OPELIKA, Ala. (WRBL) – A tragic two-vehicle crash in Opelika claimed the life of a 6-year-old child Monday evening. Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton confirmed Kingston Burns, of Beauregard, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:58 p.m. CT. The crash occurred around 5:25 p.m. on Marvin Parkway. Opelika Police, Opelika Fire, and EAMC EMS responded to the scene and attempted resuscitation efforts, but they were unsuccessful. At approximately 5:23 p.m., Opelika dispatch received a call about a multiple-vehicle crash in the 3500 Block of MarvynParkway. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles, a Kia K5 and a GMC Acadia, thatappeared to have crashed head-on. The Kia was occupied by two adults and two juveniles. One juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other juvenile passenger was transported via Life Flight to Children's of Alabama in Birmingham. The driver and adult passengerwere transported via ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, GA. The driver of the GMC Acadia along with a juvenile passenger were transported via a personal vehicle for further treatment. The crash remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit. The Lee County Coroner's Office will transport Burns to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.
