Literate and sensitive romance: Falling Into Place reviewed

Falling Into Place is a love story written by Aylin Tezel, directed by Aylin Tezel, and starring Aylin Tezel. That's a lot of Aylin Tezel so I was nervous going in. What if it's too much Aylin Tezel? What if Aylin Tezel and I don't get along? Who even is Aylin Tezel? But I knew within the first few minutes we were in safe hands and I was set to like this Aylin Tezel. In Falling Into Place she's created a literate and sensitive romance that is allowed to unfold gently. If it's 'high-octane action' you're after, then your better bet this week is Ballerina, the John Wick spin-off. This is strictly for the low-octane crowd. Do not expect octane. The film opens on a wintry Isle of Skye where Kira (Tezel, who is famous as an actress in her native Germany, I now know) has decamped for the weekend. So, too, has Ian (Chris Fulton). He's come to visit his troubled family. Kira had booked into a B&B with her boyfriend but he's just dumped her and now she's here alone. There's a spark from the moment they first lock eyes across a crowded pub bar. They spend the night together but it's one of those Before Sunrise nights. That is, a night of connection rather than consummation even though the sexual attraction is strong. They lark about in the dark streets, their conversation sometimes daft, sometimes existential. Tezel writes, directs, stars and looks adorable in a little woolly hat – is there no end to her talent? – which, thankfully, she never pairs with a pastel-coloured cardie as would have to happen if this were a romcom.

Instant karma! Moment robber who attacked woman pathetically screams in terror as police dog clamps its jaws on his arm

A violent thug screamed in terror as a police dog clamped its powerful jaws around his arm just moments after he launched a brutal assault on a woman walking to work. Leslie Sedgewick, 44, lay in wait before preying on his terrified victim in a sickening early morning robbery in Middlesbrough. The thug pounced from behind as the woman, in her 30s, made her way to work around 6.30am on December 20 last year – just five days before Christmas. He punched and kicked her to the ground with shocking force before snatching her mobile phone and fleeing. Despite suffering horrific injuries – including a suspected broken nose and a chipped tooth – the brave woman managed to escape and raise the alarm with Cleveland Police. Officers from the force's Dog Support Unit sprang into action and began scouring the area for the attacker. Not long after, PC Lee Whitehouse and police dog Kira spotted a man matching the description nearby. When officers challenged him, Sedgewick made a run for it – but didn't get far. He was dramatically taken down in a garage compound by PD Kira, who wasted no time latching onto his arm with her powerful bite. Bodycam footage shows the moment the cowardly thug screamed in terror, desperately pleading for the dog to let go. At one point, he pathetically squeals: 'I'm sorry!' Police later discovered Sedgewick had changed his clothes and dumped the woman's belongings at a nearby house in an effort to cover his tracks. He admitted robbery and was jailed for four years and five months at Teesside Crown Court on Monday. In a heartbreaking statement to police, the woman revealed: 'I was petrified', and confessed she wondered 'whether I was going to die'. She added: 'In the immediate aftermath, the woman hid her injuries from her child 'so she didn't see and ask what had happened to me'.' The lasting trauma of the attack has left her constantly looking over her shoulder. She said: 'I am constantly in fear that I don't know who is around me or what they are capable of doing.' Detective Constable Pierce Ditchburn, who led the investigation, said: 'This was a terrifying attack on a lone woman early in the morning, just a few days before Christmas. 'Leslie Sedgewick targeted the woman for her mobile phone and has been attempting to steal a bike in the moments leading up to this attack. No one should ever have to be afraid to go anywhere alone.' 'I'm pleased that Sedgewick is now behind bars, and hope that this justice can help provide some comfort to the victim in this case.'

Palantir's stock price surges on AI news, gamma squeeze

It's becoming increasingly difficult to find websites that don't integrate an artificial intelligence chatbot. You open a site, and here is "Kira" (or whatever name you've chosen) asking you how she should address you. Personally, I find that to be very annoying. But that is the trend. Apparently, your company isn't serious enough or big enough if it doesn't have one. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Companies pushing AI just for the sake of having it is silly, but there are legitimate uses where AI doesn't end up just being a nuisance. Banks, pharmaceutical companies, retailers, and the U.S. military all use AI, and hopefully, most of them do it better than UnitedHealthcare. Seemingly every company is working on AI chatbots or agentic AI programs that simplify processes (and could replace human jobs). That's been a boon for AI stocks, including Palantir, which has seen its stock price soar 74% in 2025, including a 8% jump on May 30. Fannie Mae has more than $4.3 trillion in assets and plays a foundational role in the U.S. housing market. According to the company, it is the country's largest holder of residential mortgage debt outstanding, owning or guaranteeing an estimated one in four single-family mortgages and 20 percent of multifamily mortgages in the U.S. Related: Veteran trader makes bold move with Palantir, Rocket Lab and SoFi On May 28, the company announced the launch of its AI-powered crime detection unit in partnership with Palantir. The deal expands Fannie Mae's fraud detection capabilities with a new AI-enabled platform that the company believes will help detect and prevent mortgage fraud, potentially saving the U.S. housing market millions of dollars in future losses. "This partnership with Fannie Mae will set off a revolution in how we combat mortgage fraud in this country," said Alex Karp, co-founder and chief executive officer of Palantir. "We are bringing the fight directly to anyone who attempts to defraud our mortgage system and exploit hardworking Americans." But this deal wasn't the only reason behind Palantir's stock price jumping. In March, President Trump signed an executive order calling for the federal government to share data across agencies. Related: Palantir gets great news from the Pentagon In the past few months, Palantir has been granted more work across the federal government, a signal that it may benefit from that order. The use of Palantir isn't surprising. Palantir's roots trace back to developing solutions to secure sensitive government data, and the US government remains a significant driver of the company's revenue. In Q1, governments, including the U.S., contributed $373 million to the company's $884 million in sales. Palantir's government revenue was up 45% year over year in the quarter. Much of that growth is due to the demand for Palantir's Foundry, a data analytics platform, and its AIP (Artificial Intelligence Platform), which enables clients to use AI, including large language models (LLMs) and AI agents, within private networks. The New York Times reported this week that Palantir is negotiating with at least two other agencies - the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service - about buying its technology. Meanwhile, TheStreet's Samuel O'Brient reports the Pentagon is significantly increasing the budget for Palantir's Maven Smart System to $1.3 billion over the next four years, a roughly $795 million increase. The prospect of additional Federal deals has emboldened investors. Retail investors and traders "are buying massive amounts" of call options, said longtime investor Don Kaufman during a recent appearance on Schwab Network, reported the InsiderMonkey. The jump in call activity is causing a 'gamma squeeze,' forcing market makers to buy the underlying shares in Palantir as protection to hedge their risk. Fans come to BLACKPINK star Jennie's defence amidst claims of idol making explicit videos

1 2 Jennie of the K-Pop girl group BLACKPINK, was targeted by a podcaster who made some serious allegations against the idol, sending fans into a furious debate. The influencer who featured on a podcast enraged a lot of fans for making 'baseless' claims that the star was creating explicit videos with business heirs and wealthy businessmen. In a recent episode of the 'Above The Influence' podcast, Kira, a social media influencer, made various claims about the Korean entertainment and music industry. Jennie, however, ended up becoming the main part of the conversation after Woohak, one of the hosts of the podcasts, shared an incident related to the topic of discussion. He made claims about attending a summer camp along with someone who claimed to be the son of the BMW heir. He continued, sharing that the 'heir' paid a hefty amount in order to have relations with Jennie and claimed that he had also been shown a video of the same. Netizens come to Jennie's defence and slam the podcasters Many fans of the group, as well as the general public, banded together to support and defend Jennie. No proof other than a word-of-mouth story was presented on the podcast, making everyone sceptical about the story. Many people took to their social media accounts to defend Jennie and call out the podcasters for uploading and streaming videos with such harmful and 'false' claims. One fan commented, 'You all are throwing around some serious and disturbing accusations for it to be 'he said, she said" while another shared that 'I kneewwwww I had a valid reason not to like this guy whenever videos of him popped up on my Instagram explore page. Dude gave me the ick,' while referring to Woohak. In another viral clip from the same podcast, Kira had also made claims about how BIGBANG as a group was involved in the Burning Man scandal and that Seungri was paid off to go to jail.
